Why is halo 4 Forge so awful!

Does anyone know why 343 decided to add useless magnets that are very ineffective because most don’t line up right and on top of that get rid of the fine editing tools! Also does anyone now if 343 has ANY plans to improve the awful forge experience that shipped with the game?

what a shame -_-

I only went into Forge once, but I agree that it isn’t nearly as good as the previous Halo’s. I guess it is a good thing I never go there.

Magnets work fine for me…you just have to nudge them a bit and eventually they line up right.

It not as bad as you think, it’s just that the maps are small and there is no precision editing. And certain affinity worked on forge. Blame them

How many games can you name that came out last year with better map editors?

Team Fortress 2.

Lulz.

I hopped on forge for the first time today, ended up with half a map done…ran out of creativity for the day. Overall it was WAY easier than Forge in previous Halos. I quite enjoy the magnets, but I will agree that the maps are a bit small.

If they had Forge World with the magnets, I might have actually finished making the map I started in Reach. I just got frustrated trying to get things lined up.

As far as the precision editing goes…I’m confused. You do know that if you grab an object and go into a menu (can’t remember if you hit X or B at the moment) there is a menu that says “Edit Coordinates” This allows for ridiculously precise editing. It might take a while, but each value nudges the object along the indicated axis.

It’s there, just hidden.

The edit coordinates is not the same as precision editing that people are actually talking about, but yes halo 4’s forge is much better than the other incarnations minus the precision editing.

People complain about the maps being small, they really are not. They are large enough to build any type of map that you can come up with small, medium or large. The only draw back on the maps is the lack of open space for vehicular play. That is the ONLY drawback.

Forgeworld was garbage anyways.

Far Cry 3

So the number you’re looking for is a whopping 1? Now give me the number of games released last year with map editors PERIOD. I wonder if that number will be twice as large!

I miss the zoom feature, it was a small feature but one that I used quite a bit. And as far as magnets go, I don’t even bother with them.

Keep in mind 343i DID NOT develope Forge in Halo 4, Certain Affinity did, a Texas based developer created by ex-Bugie dev (Halo 2 MP lead) Max Hobberman.

That’s not the point mate. When something is created and it works very well, going back 15 steps the following game is very hard for those that liked and used the previous tools well.

That’s why Halo 4 is being made fun of and laughed at. Everything that has worked well in previous games has for some ridiculous reason had half of it hacked away by 343 and their various sub contractors.

Using a statement like you did only makes yourself look like a blind follower and defender of 343.

Working on the assumption that Certain Affinity started with the Reach map editor, it makes no sense that existing features were left out (e.g. zooming when a monitor, fine movement).

What I have found most annoying about the new forge was when trying to create a space station on Impact. The magnets (which seemed like the best idea ever when they were first shown) don’t line the pieces up exactly, leaving little gaps that are big enough to shoot through. What is more, even when using the edit co-ordinates function, the space station tubes, corners and junctions just do not line up and match exactly, leaving bumps in floor height and messiness on the outside of the pieces where they join.

I am not expecting this to be fixed in an update, but when Halo 5 is released, I would rather be complaining about lack of a terrain editor or the ability to set covvie spawn points to create my own spartan ops rather than features the community has have come to take for granted like forge pieces fitting together properly.

Forge magnets work great for me. There are little techniques that make them that much better as well. I do wish the maps boundaries were more expanded and that there were more items to customize with. It would also be nice to be able to place over shields and all of that. But it is what it is. I don’t even look at this like “Halo” anymore. It’s more like Halo’s semi impressive not so attractive cousin.

LOL I pushed some buttons.

Magnet strength?

I love Halo 4. I play almost every day, am SR 115 and have a 1.20 KD. It is only when I play the H3 style small maps on the custom playlist that I get (drilled and) so mad I want to throw my controller and it reminds me of what H3 was like for me (so painful and not fun). To paraphrase an older Halogaf post, H4 is still has the potential of a dorky Taylor Swift (a la start of “We are never ever getting back together”) for me.

Magnets are a great addition to Forge. If you’re complaining that they’re useless, then you’re either
A: Not a good forger
B: Ignorant

Anyone who’s spent a lot of time in Forge can realize the value of magnets. Sometimes you need to make small adjustments to certain objects. Sometimes you need to make these adjustments to a whole row of objects if things like z-fighting are occurring. Magnets make this process immensely faster and hassle-free.

The fact that you’re blaming 343 for making a bad Forge, when in fact, Certain Affinity developed Forge for Halo 4 just shows how uninformed you are on the subject, and makes it hard to take your opinions seriously.

Now, there certainly are some issues with Forge. Namely,
1.) The lack of precision editing
2.) The lack of zoom in monitor mode
3.) The forced-perspective while holding a large object
4.) The inability to disable dynamic lighting and/or place lightsources

Honestly though, these are easy fixes, and I believe Certain Affinity is working on them (as they’ve said multiple times in emails to the forge community). With these fixes, Halo 4’s Forge will be undeniably superior to Reach’s. The map selection on the other hand…

Minecraft 360.

Halo 4 forge is horrible.
