I don’t hate Halo 3, but I don’t see why it’s such a fan favorite for everybody. I get the multiplayer was pretty good and the invention of Forge and Theater was revolutionary, but I can’t see it as the best Halo as many fans say it is.
It’s the best-selling Halo game of all time, and was the best-selling Xbox 360 game of all time for 6 years. More Halo fans own Halo 3 than Halo CE, Halo 2, Halo Reach, etc…
Personally I enjoy Halo Reach and Halo 2 more, but there’s just more people nostalgic towards Halo 3 as a result of those sales.
because the success of a sequel is based on what it adds onto the original game, if you look at what was added between HCE and halo 2, the list is giant (dual wielding, highjacking, brutes) H3 also added a lot of new stuff (hornets, mongeese) but it also fine tuned a lot more (graphics, balancing) thats why Halo reach and 4 weren’t as good because they took away more then they added
Halo 3 was simply every way imaginable to have “fun” put onto a disc.
I think a lot of it for me was the story. Typically I don’t have an Xbox Live gold membership so I usually focus on the campaign. To me this was the first Halo campaign that lacked replay value and a good story. I was easily able to play Halo CE and Halo 2 multiple times and still enjoy it. This didn’t have that for me. As for the revolutionary stuff I didn’t really use it. I never used forge or theater because I didn’t have any cool multiplayer moments to capture. As for equipment I never used it because I didn’t like the control setup. I had ended up using the Walkie Talkie setup so the control for equipment was up on the D-pad which isn’t handy in battle. I never cared for the new vehicles either. I thought the only one that was good was the Mongoose, but even then the only time the Mongoose was good was when you were taking down the Scarab. All of the stuff that was “revolutionary” about Halo 3 didn’t seem practical to me and I never found myself using it.
Halo 3 was the funnest, most competitive, and most ingenuitive game of its time.
In my and many other’s opinions, Halo 2 and Halo 3 were the best overall games in the series. Halo 2 perfected the formula. Halo 3 expanded on that perfect formula with useful features like Forge, Theatre, equipments, endless gametypes variants, etc. making it feel like the most complete game in the series. Halo 3 also gets the extra bump because it launched at the perfect time when online gameplay videos/commentaries/montages (and YouTube in general) were all taken off. So I felt like Halo 3 had the strongest online community aspect to it.

I can see that. I jumped into the Xbox 360 too late. I’ve only had an Xbox 360 and I had played Halo 2 to its fullest extent when I didn’t have a 360. All my friends talked about how amazing Halo 3 was and there was all this hype to it. By the time I played in 2012? I didn’t see the hype everybody had.
same here
I think Halo 3 is the most popular because it revolutionized the online multiplayer gaming community.
Halo 3 was also my favorite. I won’t lie the marketing behind the game was insane and i HAD TO HAVE IT. I’ve played the Halo 3 campaign more than all the others and its multiplayer. I never really got into Halo CE (I know all the people will hate me for saying that) but I loved Halo 2 as well. But to me, everything Halo 2 did wrong or didn’t really capitalize on, brutes, scarabs, etc., Halo 3 fixed. It also helped that Halo 3 came out when I was a freshman in high school so it was my peak time on Xbox Live lol.
