Halo 5’s population is tanking incredibly hard. Why is this?
Here are the top 5 reasons I believe halo 5 multiplayer is not popular.
-
Game is waaaayyy too competitive. Even the social playlists make you feel like you’re on the MLG mainstage. Skill MM restrictions are too tight.
-
Gameplay has lost its halo identity. You had a HUGE playerbase that loved thier halo gameplay. Now that gameplay is gone.
-
Lack of content. Pretty simple. There just isn’t much to do.
-
Campaign storyline makes no sense/is too complicated. No new players are being drawn in because the story makes no sense to hardcore players let alone new players.
-
Microtransactions in a full price game.
I will agree the campaign story is terrible but the gameplay was great.
I disagree on every other point.

You don’t think the game lacks content and doesn’t have classic halo gameplay?
The games ahead of it are much easier to pick up and compete in, which I think is why it’s not in the top 10. I can’t see any other reason really. You could argue about lack of content at release, but it still released with far more than most of the games have. The fact that destiny is doing well is mind-boggling to me, but close to 100,000 players must disagree with my opinion.

WHAT???
The funny thing is people seem to play those games that are on PlayStation and PC more on Xbox then they do the Xbox exclusives. Suppose it is good for Xbox anyway. Not good for Halo though. PlayStation must be tanking if everyone is playing Destiny and other games on Xbox.
- The goal of a FPS game is to put you in matches against people with similar skill. If you want you play casually then you always need to play casually. There is Warzone and a few Social Playlists for casual play.
2.) What makes you think it lost its identity? Is it because of the sprint/thruster/spartan charge/ground pound mechanics? I’m curious.
3.) I can get what you’re getting at, although I am not entirely dissatisfied. Luckily 343 mentioned the January DLC would focus on playlists.
4.) What part of campaign was confusing to you? Did you play Halo 4? Chief is looking for Cortana. Osiris is looking for Chief. I mean I don’t think it could be any more simple. I could answer any questions you might have? I’ve beaten it like 3 times on legendary lol.
5.) Okay… you think Microtransactions are a bad thing in this game? The thing that is literally funding the HCS winning pool, bringing attention to the game? Literally the only people who are effected by this are the people who have put in less than 20 hours worth of play and are looking to go into Warzone… the most casual place on the planet.
My opinion to why this game is losing success is that it doesn’t have a very big hold on the next generation. All these kids would rather play CoD or Battlefront. I rarely find myself in a game with a kid who sounds like he’s 12 these days. As a lot of us are players since 2001, we’re getting old. At least Halo’s population is pretty solid. Basically we don’t have those 14 year old kids screaming profanity into their mic’s at all time.
I mean what do you mean by “classic Halo play” I honestly think halo 5 has more “classic Halo play” since Halo 3. Reach and 4 were a joke. Halo 5 is a step in the right direction.

This is funding the DLC that everyone gets for free.

Games like battlefront and CoD have a much shorter time to kill while Destiny has abilities and less complex gunplay that makes it easier to have a decent game every once in a while, as well as a PvE element. Halo 5’s multiplayer at it’s most casual still requires some decent skill to do well, even in warzone due to the use of the Battle Rifle to get through the majority of the game. Obviously you will get some easy kills, but one on one gunfights in Halo will often come down to who can get the headshot first and not who sees the other first. (Most of the time) The gunplay and auto-aim in the other games I mentioned allows for more of a chance of survival. You obviously still need to be skilled to do well, but I’m talking about just being able to hold your own. In halo 5, you know when you are doing poorly.

I agree.
Skirmish games have always been my fave, those are gone basically. The ranking system and cards are convoluted ripoffs of other games. This is supposed to be a fun, its not. You are right, just like 4 this is not a halo game, it a game that uses that name.
I wish i could get a refund

This sort of goes off my point of “This game doesn’t cater to the next generation.” This game comes easy to people who have stuck around for 10+ years. I can imagine it would be extremely difficult to get into if this or 4 was your first Halo. Not to mention losing is the absolute worst in this game. I guess to even build off this, I would not enjoy this game if I didn’t have all my homies online to play with. Queueing up for playlists alone is a death sentence where 1/2 of your matches are against full premades. This game really needs to pin fireteams against fireteams and allow for solo queuers to go up against other solo queuers.

Battlefront, siege, and destiny. All launched with significantly less content. I would argue that destiny still has less, even with it’s expansions.

Uh, no. The goal of a game is for people to have fun. Ranked is for tight, competitive matches. The problem right now is that the “social” seem to have the same search parametres as ranked. So theres no alternative to competitive games besides warzone. Which some people don’t like.
-
H5 doesn’t play anything like the origina trilogy.
-
After finishing h5 I don’t think I can even explain what happened.
Why isn’t this issue effecting other older franchises?

Yeah I think we were typing our posts at the same time haha. When I started playing Halo 5 I was just getting demolished. It’s certainly not a “pick up and play” game. The only way to get better is to keep slogging your way through slayer games and learning the maps and weapons. Probably makes it tough to compete with other games that don’t require quite as much “thinking” (thinking being a relative term) I would argue that the stress of gameplay drives players away as well. Slayer and even warzone can be pretty intense in a close game.

Play SWAT.

SWAT may be one of the least forgiving of the modes. You aren’t paying attention and you are toast against players who know their sightlines.

The “DLC that everyone gets for free” is delayed content from launch, so it is funded by the actual game sales. Microtransactions are partly funding the HCS, the rest goes straight into 343’s/Microsoft’s pocket.
“1. Uh, no. The goal of a game is for people to have fun. Ranked is for tight, competitive matches. The problem right now is that the “social” seem to have the same search parametres as ranked. So theres no alternative to competitive games besides warzone. Which some people don’t like.”
What… do you want to be constantly pinned up against kids who are a lot worse than you? This game is as competitive as you make it. People really need to chill out on their arena ranks. They reset monthly. It would kill you to play arena “casually,” right? Sorry, but the main focus is not fun in a FPS game. Obviously it is a main focus but it is not THE main focus. This game would be rediculous without balance. Seriously, put a team of golds against a team of Onyx players. I’m sure the Gold players will love the game.
“2. H5 doesn’t play anything like the origina trilogy.”
You really didn’t answer my question of why. I agree with the new mechanics it is slightly different but this game honestly plays more like the original trilogy than reach/halo 4 combined. I believe they brought back power weapon priorities and map control from reach and 4 which were complete loadout garbage with stupid armor mods.
“4. After finishing h5 I don’t think I can even explain what happened.”
Maybe you should of paid attention? It was extremely straight forward lol… like wow… a kid in elementary school could of probably gotten it. It’s obvious you skipped cutscenes or played it over a length of time where you can not remember the details. I thought the campaign was astounding.
“Why isn’t this issue effecting other older franchises?”
Other games are near identical. They cater to the next generation. They contain low skill caps. You pick up your loadout weapon and shoot. Anyone can be good at CoD or Battlefront.
