Why is "farming" frowned upon?

What makes it a problem?

A superior team is completely capable of destroying the core in a Warzone match, to the point where the other team is letting them destroy the Core, but they choose not to, instead killing the other team and taking the least efficient route to win for commendations, future rewards (Achilles) or personal enjoyment.

The inferior team is stuck in a base with very little chance to escape, and even if you do escape, they probably won’t shift the game in their favor. So people get killed like fish in a barrel, quit, and pushed away from the game, because getting killed right off spawn is surprisingly not enjoyable for most people.

You could just read any of these threads instead of making these threads asking about why everyone is complaining.

It’s one thing for an organized clan to completely wipe the floor with a team of random noobs. Sure the match probably wasn’t very entertaining for the team that got destroyed, but at least the match is over and they won’t have to play against that clan again.

It’s something else entirely for that team to just sit back, not even attempt to win, and farm the noobs for points towards a goal outside the match itself. Then when the clan finally gets bored and decides to end the match the randoms who were playing against them get put into a match with yet another clan because everyone’s farming Achilles and Warzone has no ranking system to prevent this -Yoink-.

because 343 should of made the commendations only in arena so you noobs stopped farming warzone

OP if you have to ask then someone has failed you. A coach, a parent, a teacher somewhere didn’t teach you about sportsmanship and competition.

It is more than spawn killing, as long as there are neutral spawnpoints like in arena a spawn killing session can be broken easily. In GRIFFBALL, when people are being spawn killed, they have a hammer which they can use to smash themselves away from their spawn.

Farm Killing is something HALO has never been through.

The “tryhards” (or people who play very well and don’t really need to be chastised) have their home in Arena. In the event of Kill Farming, the enemy team can kill people with ease because there are no neutral spawnpoints for the opposition to break the chain with. They rush the three bases and ignore the vunerable core. Instead they stand on the spawnpoints and kill anyone as soon as they spawn. What makes a comeback impossible is the REQ system. If you cannot manage to reach REQ lvl 5 because the enemy kills you right off the bat, then you do not have a good chance of attacking back.

Is this a legit strategy? Yes, a savage one though…

Can this be reported as “Unsporting Behavior” or “Cheating”? Yes, I spoke to a couple of Microsoft employees on their forums and kill farming in WARZONE or any game fits the Unsporting Behavior and Cheating category.

If you do not want to deal with these people, report and move on. Unfortunately no action is being taken by 343 because it lets them get the $$$ because of SCies spending cash to resupply their farming tools (REQ weapons). I have been kill farmed and played with teams who kill farm, yet I tend to go for the core regardless of the chances I get to get some commendations up for our Spartan Company towards Achilles.

This tactic is keeping people away from playing a just-for-fun and social playlist (wait, since when was there a thing as a “social playlist” in HALO 5?), so here are some ideas of how to decrease the chances of Kill Farming:

  • Greatly increase the RP+XP rewards for capping the core quickly, as well as in Arena - Place neutral spawnpoints in WARZONE/WARZONE ASSAULT - Time limit for capping the core (?)
If Kill Farming and other tactics continue to ruin the casual fun Warzone was meant to have then the extreme solution would be:

MAKE ACHILLES AND/OR IT’S POSSIBLE VARIENTS ACCESSIBLE THROUGH THE REQ SYSTEM (RNG).

I understand the need for competition especially in a game like Halo, since my last of Warzone my team was getting spawn camped for what felt like an hour. Now normally I would just rage aloud in my home and not give a crap, but then I thought I’ll turn this around. Not for my team, we obviously stood NO chance of winning at that point, but turn it around for me! And I grabbed a sniper and started Farming the Farmers. It was delicious! But at some point Sportsmanship should really kick in and either FORCE the enemy team (Who obviously has the most points) to win by default, or like the match I played two days ago, the enemy team actually gained some honor and backed off allowing us to take back our Armory. The Former is more likely to happen than the latter naturally.

  • It wastes people’s time. - It stops any 1v1s from ever occurring, devaluing individual skill. - It causes randoms to get very little enjoyment out of the game. - It’s blatantly ignoring the objective. - It’s unsportsmanlike.

You really didn’t have to be rude to him because he asked a question.

Very simple and to the point awnser, a good one. It’s like spawn camping but on steroids. I have played alot of Warzone and been lucky enough to only deal with this once, and like Phenoix 182 said earlier, I used a sniper and had some fun with it - untill someone on the other team got bored and fuel rodded the core finally.

Basically a better organized team kills the hell out of the opposing team made of people with no mics, less skill and no coordination, using the match fully to make progress on some commendations that could take a lot of matches and a long time. Then the people who lose are shocked that a whole team would use their best opportunity to get the necessary kills for the commendation on them instead of taking the least efficient approach to the commendations.

I’ve said it before, most of the stuff called farming either isn’t or it is hardly unsportsmanlike. Case and point, team A gets triple capped by team B. Team A decides to turtle. If team B pushes the core for an extended period but fails to break the turtle it is common for them to stop pushing the core and keep team pinned. The described scenario happens often, and it isn’t farming. Yet, you can be sure some would label it as such and complain. The reality is they’re just upset they got rolled and had to wait for forever for it to end.

On the other hand, under the same scenario suppose team B does break the turtle. Suppose they keep one or more people in the opposing core room to setup spawn traps and “farm” kills on respawning players. This is farming. This is also unsportsmanlike. Complaints about it are valid. People/companies engaging in this are trash. Nobody should need an explanation detailing why this is the case. It should be obvious.
