Why is everybody bashing 343i so badly? while I understand that Halo 4 didn’t please everyone, they still did what they could to fix every issue in the ways they thought best. Not to mention that this is 343i’s FIRST GAME EVER, as a first game, I think they did exceptionally well and they have personally shown they they are learning from their experiences as developers. The 343i devs clearly aren’t idiots and won’t make the same mistakes in Halo 5 that they made in Halo 4 simply because of their burning desire and attempts to please the community. Yes, there were some issues and some unbalances right out of the gate, but they fixed everything they could and still continue to support the game even if the community is too ignorant to realize it. 343i deserves a second chance(and has a second chance[Halo 5]) to make everything right, and should be beaten into the ground AFTER they completely ruin the franchise , NOT BEFORE.

Yeah, the way they fixed those Custom gam— oh, wait…
That’s no excuse. They had 3 previous GREAT games to work with and use as templates, the groundwork was laid for them. I hate the “first game” excuse with a passion, it makes it sound like Halo is totally brand new and has no pre-existing games.

And as a FIRST game which you are taking over a utterly REVERED series from a master developer like Bungie WHY oh WHY would you change SO MUCH? Why wouldn’t you take more conservative steps towards making the game better? They took a HUGE gamble when adding PO, custom loadouts, instant respawn, etc. that that stuff would expand it’s audience and they lost. Big time. Not only did it not appeal to a larger COD style audience but they also did not appeal to the actual HALO audience. WHOOPS.
First game ever? That’s crap.
Most of the team is ex-Bungie who worked on previous Halo games. This isn’t some band of rookies. They ought to know what they’re doing. Instead it seems like half the team came from Infinity Ward or Treyarch with how CODified Halo 4 is.
> Most of the team is ex-Bungie who worked on previous Halo games.
I hope you know that is entirely false.
343i pushed away the people who have been playing Halo games for years. The people who played every single day to get better and better at the game.
343i changed a competitive game into a casual game.
343i made the game easily accessible to new players, so that everyone can be good at the game. There’s no “learning to get better” aspects anymore. What is sad is that 343i designed this game for casuals for more money. That’s the truth, and that’s sad.
This is one of the main reasons why people are voicing their concerns.

I hope you’re prepared to be wrong. 343 has been involved with Halo’s development long before Halo 4 came out. Learn to google.
Halo isn’t brand new but without some new features and direction everybody would complain that 343i sucks because they didn’t add anything new to the game. If you REALLY wanted the same old halo then bust out the older discs, blow the dust off them, and throw them into your console. I admit, most of the changes were negative, but I think it is safe to assume that they are trying their best to find a middle-ground between new, and with all of the “feedback” they have been getting, they will get it right.

There are only around 5 ex bungie employees who work at 343 now. 343 formed around 2007 and only started to get really involved with Halo around the time of reach.

OK, I should’ve said most of the team has worked on Halo before this rather than ex-Bungie. They worked on Halo Reach since 2009 and ran the game after Bungie sold Halo to Microsoft. That’s 4 years ago. They were founded 6 years ago.
Halo 4 is their first game created from scratch, but they ought to understand what Halo is by now since they’ve been working on it for years already.

You can count the amout of ex bungie members in 343i on one hand.
OT: Well let’s put it simply here.
If you implement new settings that fundamentally change how the game plays and then don’t give a single playlist to get away from them,
You’re gonna have a bad time.

I personally believe that using the excuse that it is 343’s first game is rubbish as well. But I am not basing my opinion on misinformation(Like that 343 is made up of mostly ex bungie, or that they have extensive experience with halo). My argument is usually based on the fact that these guys at 343 are not new to the video game industry as a whole and they already had an established franchise to work with.
In a few cases it is legitimate hate for loss of something held dear to them, in the majority however it is simply being a mindless sheep
“It’s their first game” excuse is a load of bull. There have been and will be tons of game studios where their first game was good for their first and they still got the ax. It was good but it wasn’t good enough. Key word: expectations, and they failed to meet them and people were pissed.
Personally, I think that everyone’s problem with the game is that it changed in a way that was unfamiliar, and therefore wrong. I don’t want another Call of Duty franchise. If every game was “good old Halo: CE/Halo 2/Halo 3”, then where is there room for variety? I suspect that this is the reason for hate on 343i. People didn’t like the changes made to gameplay in Halo: Reach, and Halo 4 was based on that engine, with more changes brought along. I personally thought that Halo: Reach was a great game. While this may not have been 343i’s first experience in the market, you must give them credit for moving the game outside their comfort zone and the comfort zone of their players. I, for one, will still continue to play this game and its sequels, because I believe that 343i will improve and, even if the audience continues to drop, Halo is a great game in and of itself. Halo is changing. It always has been. It just seems that the change is growing more important exponentially.
They were bragging about how much collective experience they have prior to the game’s release.

Didn’t 343i work with Bungie in between 2007-2010?
Well it could be that for a lot of people, they didn’t find the game too fun. Just because it is their first game doesn’t mean it absolves them of criticism since Halo is a major franchise.
Promises were made… Many we’re not kept.
The whole reason I bought it was the statement “custom games are now fully customizable”- that literally sold me the game. I loved the combination of Halo Reach Forging and Halo Reach Custom Games Options. I expected better forge and better custom games options.
Forge editing tools still missing, gametypes are still missing and the greatest thing ever “custom power up” is still missing…
How many months into this game are we in? This statement “custom games are now full customizable” still remains a lie.
Do I hate 343? No. Do I trust 343? No.
No reason to buy Halo 5 until after its released and PROVES its worth my time. No more of assuming, “oh, of course I’ll buy it… It’s halo!” On 360, I only play Halo and Metal Gear… If the Halo 5 custom games and forge are not better than Halo Reach (not an extreme wish) then I have no reason to leave my 360.
In no particular order: Poor netcode, no dedicated servers, poor host selection, no regional filters. No ranking at launch and it’s not even visible in game now. No split social/ranked playlists. Took 7 or so months to address the DMR issue, a couple less to nerf the most OP thing ever - the Gauss hog. Bullet magnetism, Boltshot, PP, PG starts, the latter two heavily negating vehicle play. AC, Jetpack, PV and ordnance drops in IS.
Flinch, a lack of foresight regarding the implementation of sprint and the way it affected game play but still going ahead and giving players the mobility perk. Average maps concentrated more towards aesthetics with back stories rather than even game play. Instaspawn/shield recharge times and a poor spawning system. Inconsistent booting options for foul play. The way they implemented static weapon spawns after the 3/6 TU.
Lack of options in Forge and Customs, toy soldier armor, the spartan in a wheelchair poster be it a joke or not. Saying they hired people who hated Halo. Useless medals like ‘comeback kill’, ‘assist’ and ‘distraction’ yet they got rid of the perfection medal. The automatic pausing of the player when you check the score in-game.
These are the complaints that I can remember seeing on the forum. Some are a bit pedantic but by and large I agree with a lot of them. I don’t hate 343I but the game could have been vastly better than it is (it’s much better now than it was at launch). I acknowledge that they’ve tried to fix some of the things up which is appreciated but many of these problems would have been solved by releasing a beta. Sort some of this stuff out for Halo 5 (they’ll have dedicated servers which is a great start)and I’ll buy an Xbox one, if not, PS4 it is.
