I remember back in Halo 3 high rank team slayer or mlg games, it was an absolute outrage when a single person didn’t have a mic - because it was so rare.
First world problems when you look back at it…no one uses one these days!

Oh I should probably mention that everyone mistakes me for being Mexican just because my GT has a spanish word in it. As just some white guy in central USA it gets really old listening to the same racist insults over and over…
Still get the occasional hate message about my supposed mexican dirtiness, usually because I kicked their yoink in-game

Mate, don’t let it get to you. With my aussie accent I get called crocodile dundee.
> I’ve always been an anti-social lone wolf. Other people babbling annoys me so I usually put the mic in then mute it and turn it all the way down at my feet. I know, I’m terrible and part of the problem, but I honestly don’t care
This, I can’t explain it but I need focus to play well, I’m completely antisocial in gaming and real lie (except my friends) so maybe talking on the mic will help but I don’t want to here constant abuse, anger, homophobic slurs, sexist comments when I play with my female friends, etc. I’ll stick to listening to music
> > I’ve been playing Halo 3 recently and the worst I’ve heard is kids playing music and screeching while having mic issues like normal.
>
> This. I have played Halo 3 quite a lot recently and most people that are in Game-Chat are willing to co-operate to get the win.
>
> That doesn’t mean that there are still people that play music too loud or trash-talk but I personally love trash-talk, it is psychological warfare and it gets me pumped to smash the other team.
Often times when people try to trash talk it’s just hilarious, almost pitiful. I remember starting a game where two guys on the enemy team started insulting my teammates’ armors and gamertags, sure enough we won 3-0. Their shameful silence while my teammates were yelling at them was just pure ironic greatness.
> Lucky you. I played a game a few days ago where it was a close game of Team Slayer. My team ended up winning 50-48 or something, extremely close game. All I heard in the post-game lobby was constant profanity, insults to my sexual preference, and telling us we’re terrible. After I said good game.

> Those experiences are examples of why I never leave party chat.
What’s better than going into party chat is messing with those people who yell at you. I swear I almost made someone burst a vein because I insisted that BK stood for Burger King and I didn’t understand how to get over myself at Burger King.
Eh I’ve only had good experiences talking in team chat since moving from slayer to objective. We aren’t talking trash or about the weather. We are actually talking strategy. Just things like look out for the guy with rockets in B or cover me while I run the flag out in the open.

Lol it doesn’t, more pathetic how racist some people are and then funny when they are incorrectly stereotyping. And theyre just jealous, Australian accents are awesome

Agreed, Aussies are cool. Actually the most racist (and vulgar) person I ever heard was some kid from Belgum (man that kid had some real problems) he kept making fun of my friend in Whales thinking he sounded German
Also kept making me out to be a “rich american” whatever that ment.
Back on topic though. . .
I use to use my mic a lot more in Reach, but there hasn’t been any real coordinated chatter going on in H4. If there has it’s been on the opposing team and it seemed like they were taking turns getting killed by me.
Why …so I can call out a -Yoink- for picking up Rocks then jumping in a banshee and flying off to his death effectively losing 2 power items for my team?
Like most, I choose to keep the complaining to myself.
Squeakers and the bong coughers.
Choose your method for communication:
-Omegle (Halo 2 and a bit of 3)
-Skype (Party chat with Halo 4)
The ones that have mics are usually loud, annoying, full of themselves, have voices higher than the chipmunks, or all of the above. Even when they aren’t it’s not like they’re going to listen to me pointing out snipers or anything…
And most of the time, I turn on Party Chat just so I it does a global mute of the game chat, I’m not even talking to anyone.
> It’s all about party chat now. People would much rather talk to their friends and individuals they are comfortable with.
>
> Those that are talking outside of parties tend to be five, have there mic in their nose or are using a Kinect as a mic; that does not encourage people to come out of their comfort zone.
That was pretty funny haha.
nobody can understand my EXOTIC accent.
> Party chat mostly. No one wants to hear the constant stream of hate, homophobia, insults and racism that was halo 2 and is currently Xbox live.
I have no idea where you are getting that from? I haven’t heard any of that. But trash talking happens in every competitive game these days regardless of Halo 4’s tiny skill-gap.
I’m putting my bet on a lack of competitiveness as to the reason why players are not subjected in such a way to communicate and strategise with other players. Another theory of mine is that the game isn’t as welcoming as its predecessors with the menu-cgi and the aura that it emits; it feels and appears very bland for a triple A title and has managed to alienate its community. No wonder there is a lack of socialising with microphones.
It does lack competitiveness. Halo 4 doees not really encourage team work. Im not sure which gametypes have mics but i was playing CTF and BTB yesterday. i couldnt find no more than like 2 people with mics on the enemy team. Halo4 may have alienated its competitive community to such an extent that all you might see is groups against groups.
I hate finding brits and yanks, and when they hear me talk they start being -Yoinks!- because of my aussie accent.

Play with your microphone on and outside of party chat on Call of Duty. Start talking often and you’ll have someone call you the N word, make sexual comments towards your mother and question your sexual preference. It may not be as prevalent on Halo 4, but Xbox LIVE is known for its hate speech.
It started with Halo 2. People would trash talk after the game until one of the two teams was forced to leave. That is one of the reasons why so many people back out of games after they end instead of staying in the lobby. It has become habit so they don’t have to hear the other team talk hate, racism and homophobic slurs.
> My headset doesn’t work. Sorry.
I need to get a headset
Party Chat and the lack of proximity chat killed an important social aspect of Halo. You can’t have so many players sitting in isolated silence and also have a robust self-generating community.
We shouldn’t let chat die because we are scared of some dumb loud-mouthed kid who is about five minutes away from being auto-muted. Meeting one good Halo playing friend in-game is worth a thousand impotent racists.
Slightly off topic: Does anyone know of a decent low profile wireless mic that doesn’t beep in my ear when I mute myself? I like to crank up my music and my TV while I play.
