Why is BTB not at launch?

Why don’t we have BTB?

Probably, if you mean by launch you mean launch day for the game. Its either that they will be working on a patch to implement BTB or they have DLC plans in the future with it who knows. I actually had no idea BTB will be absent on day 1.

They focused most of their large scale multiplayer efforts on Warzone because it was an extremely complicated thing to build and get working, so it took most of their time. We will have BTB in the weeks following launch.

It will be in game a few weeks after launch. Its going to work like arena but it will have its own maps and system. They just didn’t have enough time, they admitted to it.

3 years? Come on guys, I’m open-minded but is that really the reason, it’s somewhat difficult to believe.

Well they have created the core Arena experience from the rest of the Halo games, alongside a bigger campaign seemingly than usual and they are pushing for a zero bug release among other things as well as creating a mode (Warzone) that is literally unprecedented in Halo history which could potentially hold hundreds of bugs that could break it. As we’ve seen with the MCC as well as in the the recent Sprint episodes squashing bugs can take some time.

EDIT: Nevermind.

It was probably just lower on priority list than warzone to be out at launch. Hopefully they put it in quickly after release.

Why they are excluding the most played Halo game mode ever?

It’s just for promoting their Warzone mode and the Requisition Packs and the micro transactions for them.
343 seems to just think this mode could be their excuse for cutting everything else, lets count it together Halo 5 has:

  • a campaign
  • a small team based arena mode
  • a team objective playlist
  • and WARZONE woooohoooo (being sarcastic here)

Now lets compare this to reach:

  • campaign
  • Firefight
  • split-screen
  • playable elites
  • full armor costumization
  • well functioning custom mode
  • a lot of good playlists

It’s one of the most hated games in the community (can’t understand this, it’s awesome) but still has more players than the two broken products 343 delivered. Here in Germany we call this an “Armutszeugnis”

Isn’t anyone seeing where 343 is going with its politic of cutting beloved features and adding one of the greatest sicknesses off all time (microtransactions) to Halo? I for my part cancelled my preorder after hearing about this downsizing policy, I mean you pay more for less content (?!). I will borrow the game from a friend and play the campaign and then return it to him forever. Great they ruined my most loved franchise, well done 343 if I want a franchise to die I know who to call (nope not the Ghostbusters)

I’ll end this thread with a contextual sentence: “We cut beloved features and modes, but we have warzone its almost the same” No it’s not!

Simple, no BTB means anyone wanting to pay a game with more than 8 people, which most people will at one time or another, will instead find themselves in warzone, where they’ll spend their cards, and be tempted to buy more.

awww you poor thing. miss your little armor skins? Also elites? pfft, people should care more about what there is to play, not what to play as. it’s also a fps, who cares what you look like? moving forward i’ll agree with you on the playlist but i disliked firefight. As to why people hate reach, it varies. It killed real competitive halo, the armour abilities, bad story as it didn’t follow the origonal lore, bloom, and ect. that’s what you’ll hear but i too like reach however i do agree it killed halo competitive to a degree, h4 finished it and now h5 looks to bring it back, i hope fingers crossed. Also you can’t quite judge custom games in h5 just yet, it’s not even out.

Well said.

GollumV2, BTB will be released within weeks of launch according to an interview with Josh Holmes.

343i decided to focus on Warzone over BTB. Imagine the flip side, BTB at launch and promises of some wild and crazy new game type called Warzone in the weeks after release. Instead, they showed us a pretty sweet looking new game type, fully functional instead of an old game type we all know and understand. With the delay they are not only showing their unwillingness to compromise releasing a buggy BTB, but also their commitment to create a genuine BTB experience instead of a bigger Slayer with 16 people.

I don’t mind one bit that other people are going to buy my DLC maps for me through micro-transactions. This isn’t a Freemium game, there time to acquire vs reward to purchase ratio isn’t going to be like a free mobile app.

You guys may be right but I can’t really wrap my mind around the idea of it taking 3 years NOT to have BTB as a playlist as launch when it really is just 4v4 slayer times 2 with bigger maps. It’s the most played gametype in Halo history too.

Also, what if it Warzone isn’t liked that much or is broken? That means that people will have to wait for Warzone to be patched AND BTB to be added. All people will have to play in the meantime is campaign, infection and 4v4. That is the most blasphemous thing that could ever happen to a Halo game. They already took out Firefight, Spartan Ops and split-screen. That means that if Halo 5 doesn’t have an average launch, several fans will let go of the Halo franchise and give up. MCC was a failure and Halo 4 was an outrage for many people. If this game doesn’t work at launch, Halo 6 will suffer dramatically.

Have some faith in the game and your own interests. If you like how the game is looking then you probably will enjoy it.

Also, 3 years might seem like a long time but making a game is a MASSIVE undertaking and tough calls have to be made all the time.

After seeing Greenskull’s video and how he enjoyed Warzone at E3. I think warzone is going to do fine and be lots of fun

Probably so they can brag about how many people are playing their “new” game type - warzone.

I do have faith in 343 but you guys aren’t seeing my what-if. Let’s take a trip back to 2013, Battlefield 4 had an almost fully functional demo with an unforgivable launch. So Warzone can indeed be broken at launch. Making games is hard but 3 years is how long it took Bungie to make Halo 3: ODST and Halo: Reach and those 2 games had a lot of new content in their own rights and a clean launch, so I am only saying that my fear is realistic.

Well i am assuming you heard why so why are you asking??? its simple 343i dont have enough people to work on warzone and BTB

Because they’re focusing on Warzone first, and plus they have to optimize BTB maps. It’ll be just like H4, it wasn’t part of launch. But like Josh said, it will be coming weeks after launch. We’ll all be too busy earning Req Cards, using them in Warzone, forging, playing customs and remaking classic custom games to even notice. And by the time we do notice, BTB will arrive
