Bloom was in the other Halo games. But only on automatic weapons and the CE magnum. Bullet spread was on the H3 BR. Bungie did a bad job of implementing bloom on the precision weapons.
It’s the bad implementation of bloom on precision weapons (Sniper has it but it honestly it’s just for show). It was Bungie’s way of enforcing cadence and nerfing precision weapons. They really did listen to the community, whom the majority of players (on b.net) hated getting pooped on via the BR.
Since it was a utility weapon (meaning it can be used in pretty much any situation) the other weapons became less effective at getting kills. It’s true; get good with the BR and besides power weapons and equipment, you won’t need anything else.
Bloom was the answer to that. Except that the default settings don’t really work. They are inconsistent and it’s akin to rolling dice. 85 bloom is an improvement over that; ZB is a bit too hardcore for the regular playerbase and resembles an experience for those who love fast kill times and fast flowing gameplay (think Halo CE/Halo 2/Halo 3). I prefer ZB btw.
Bullet spread is pretty much stating that within your reticule of fire the bullet can hit anywhere within that circle or be off center a bit. This is made obvious by the zero bloom pistol which, even without bloom still has spread so it is still limited at range by its accuracy.
Bloom is the concept that as you fire that reticule of fire increases, thus your accuracy SHOULD get worse and from there make it so you decide to pace or slow down your rate of fire as to keep your accuracy at a level where most if not all of your bullets hit. However, this, in Reach, just adds to chance. Because sometimes it could go in the center, and even if you pace your shots there’s a chance (due to bullet spread) that it still won’t hit. And due to bullet magnetism the bullet could hit even if you’re spamming your shots (shooting as fast as you can)…
Pretty much what these guys said, and people who say it has been in previous games can’t be correct, you didn’t have to slow down your BR shots for example. I’m talking about precision weapons now. That’s why the bloom on the AR bother people less, since it has always been pretty much random where the next bullet will hit if you spray with it.
Well they have given you a lot more options now. You can have:
ZB- No bloom at all.
85% Bloom - which I think is alright, but you have to get used to it.
Normal Bloom - I am used to it, and have no problem with.
What I think will be a good idea, is for 343, in custom games to make so that we can customize it to whatever % we want.
I am not sure if we can, I am never the host for a custom game anyway.
