It’s a social Playlist so why are all the sweaty teams playing it? Sometimes I play a round of this and it’s got to be the least enjoyable game mode available. Is it because it used to be ranked and old sweaties are hanging on to their old glory days?
Honestly I think BTB should be replaced with Mongoose Sumo
I think it’s because it’s Halo. It’s always been competitive. Halo 2 was the most competitive game I’ve ever played. Hell, CTF in Halo 4 can get sweaty if you let it. BTB is designed just like a standard Slayer match only with double the players on a map twice as large with a few vehicles. Why wouldn’t it get competitive? Why would it be any different? It’s not like people go there thinking “well, since it’s BTB, I’m gonna try to take you out with 6 shots instead of 4 and we both chill and t-bag each other while my teammates go for a nice evening Warthog drive on the beach over there and watch the sun set behind the Halo ring, so why don’t you go ahead and take the sniper rife?”
That’s why, unless I’m mistaken, it is in fact ranked … it just has a hidden ranking system so you’re still playing with people around your skill level. Because, Social or not, people want to win. And it’s not like the objective isn’t to win in Social playlists. And it’s not like people aren’t going to care about losing. And outside of modes like Grifball, Infected, Husky Raid, and things like that, Social playlists aren’t really Social or any different at all in terms of how people play them. People still play to win in the heat of the match. The only difference is there isn’t a rank to stress out about if that’s the kind of thing you stress out about. If you start to lose you think “no biggie, no rank to worry about”, and if you’re winning, you still got other stats to brag about, “720 noob stomp, 9000 BXR MAX, 3.0 KDA on the Richter scale”. And a lot of sweaty people use unranked playlists for warm-up matches. You see what I’m saying? Basically, it still boils down to that people want to win.
Then sometimes you have situations where you’re just get unlucky with your teammates. Sometimes you may get stuck with the teammate who just worked a 12 hour shift and wants to relax and has already had a few drinks and is in no shape to play Halo properly (but poor guy has earned it, -Yoink!-!), or another teammate had to take a phone call and their cat started batting at the vibrating controller and that’s your MVP (you know, people who should be in Social), while all your opponents are all noob-slayer pro try-hard wannabes out to “req some kids” in unranked. lol
TLDR: There’s only one Big Team Battle playlist. BTB has been in Halo since CE and everyone loves it. Even competitive players. You’re going to get all types in that playlist. And Social or not, people want to win.
It’s because there’s a lot of people who play that Playlist only when their party consists of 5 or more and there is not a matchmaking system in place to make it so that solo players are not matched up with parties of 8, so when you go into BTB the enemy team is usually partied up with at least 5 people
