Why is betraying in Breakout a thing?

Just tried out the extinction playlist. I love it, find it to be lots of fun.

But for some reason it seems like every 2 or 3 games or so I end up in a game where me/my team mate/an opponent is betrayed. And most of the time it is for no reason at all! I am so dumbfounded.

And in a game type like Breakout being down a player is extremely difficult to overcome. And it doesn’t even seem like they are going after power weapons. Maybe they are just trolling, or is there another reason?

And the worst part: after 1 person gets betrayed it becomes a contest and the entire game is ruined after you lose a few rounds or someone gets booted. It’s ridiculous!

I wish 1 betrayal got a boot in Breakout, because there is no reason you should be betraying a team mate (it is hard to do if you are playing fair).

Anybody else have this issue?

There have been times in Breakout (2.0) where I got betrayed immediately after going off the launch pad, whether I get back-smacked or take a shotgun blast from behind. It makes me so paranoid.

“Oh great, now I gotta avoid getting shot by my teammates too??”

Extinction is probably my favorite playlists, I’ve been playing it avidly since the start of the game and seen all the changes from when it was just called breakout till now and maybe I can shed a little light on whats happening.

My first question is what rank are you? Here are the biggest reasons I know for throwing a match. If your in gold and below this happens a lot more because a good portion of the players in that range are trying to de-rank. By purposely killing you and throwing the match and losing they keep dropping in rank so they’ll play worse players. People do this often times just to play worse players or so its easier to accomplish certain commendations like the immortal medal. (playing diamond players makes getting that commendation impossible to get).

Sadly booting on the first betrayal is a bad idea because because in the breakout type with no shield and only health a poor placed grenade can kill your teammate and then your booted by accident. That used to happen all the time in the original game type where it was just health bars.

My recommendation is to party up with other good players. Its very common in extinction that if your on a good team to send or receive game invites to play out a few rounds together, you don’t have to be in a party or a chat but grouping up will help minimize getting those kind of teammates and improve your chance of winning and who knows you might just make a friend or two.

I’ve had the same experience, and (unfortunately) avoid that playlist now. I think sometimes you just get those type of players that like to cause grief.

However, I suspect in many instances players are trying to fabricate situations in pursuit of medals and commendations (bifecta, trifecta to get the “against all odds” commendation)…unfortunately, at the expense of their own teammates.

I think I am a Platinum 3 in the playlist.

I usually play alone, but I think it would be a good idea to invite good team mates in subsequent games. I did that all the time in Reach. Thanks for the advice.

Sad to hear that commendations could be a part of this smh. Thanks for all of the responses and advice everyone.
