I’m sure this will be explained in the Game but i really don’t understand why he wants to fight them. We see in Tales From Slipspace that he is capable of seeing the benefits in Cooperating with past enemies. There no way he wouldn’t understand that Human were only ever fighting to survive and I doubt he thinks they are truly weak at least not as a species. If he is able to make allies out of assassins sent to kill him then why make more enemies, especially now that the Created have emerged?

Maybe he just can’t trust them?
Do you really think he’d trust the species that let Cortana loose on the universe?

The brutes and the Elites would have let the prophets activated the rings.
Also how would he even know that Cortana was made by humans. How would he even know who the leader of the Created is?
Control of the Ark, I think. That and the UNSC identifies him as a threat, and attacks him as such.
Didn’t the Brutes always have issues trusting the Elites and the UNSC? Pretty sure there was a Comic about that.
Add that to the fact Atriox seems a little rage blinded he could be going after them for the simple reason of sport, and memories of the war.

Because humans are too loyal and committed to the cause. Atriox knew he could sway men without a cause to his side. But any words would be wasted on UNSC troops whose only concern is the protection of humanity and not their own self interest. Most humans would never work with him; especially UNSC.
If Atriox ultimate goal is conquest of the galaxy, then the UNSC are ultimately his enemy.
He might also still have an axe to grind from his time fighting them during the war.
He wants power, not allies. Humanity have always been his enemy.
Perhaps he knows that his way of beating Cortana will be as bad for humanity as it is for her. So he just opens with attacking the Ark.
He didn’t think the SoF would show up and didn’t think anything of slaughtering a UNSC outpost to avoid warning. He wanted to proceed undisturbed, or needed the scientists to do his bidding.

Yeah I pre ordered the game, so I am hoping it’ll be available for pre install before then. Gonna have to avoid Waypoint for a few days if people be playing the game on the Wednesday.

The pre-order for digital says at 00:00:00 17/02/2017 or 21/02/2017 depending on edition.
Back on topic though. As it’s been said by others. I think Atriox is only the type to go for power and the UNSC would actively try to block him doing that. Hence why they are enemies to him.
Maybe because the Spirit of Fire attacks the Banished first thinking that they are the Covenant.
For control of the Ark

The Warden talks a lot
Maybe he thinks they’re invading the ark
Cause they wake him up at night and attack him
The Banished and the UNSC are competing factions, vying for galatic dominance; that’s reason enough for them to be fighting over the Lesser Ark, an installation filled to the brim with Forerunner goodies.
Why do we assume that Atriox knows anything about Cortana?

He arrived on the Ark one month after the portal closed in response to Cortana’s plan. He has to know.
