Why is Armor Lock still in Matchmaking?

I don’t understand why Armor Lock is still in Matchmaking. When you go into Team Slayer, you usually battle a team that does nothing but Armor Locks when you’re shooting them and they sometimes end up winning. It gets unimaginably frustrating and not even fun to play sometimes.

343, you say you’re all about listening to fan feedback. I think it’s safe to say that most Halo fans who give feedback(minus the trolls) strongly dislike Armor Lock. Why won’t you respond to this universally negative sentiment and simply remove it altogether from Matchmaking? You don’t even have to patch the game, just remove the Armor Lock loadout from the gametypes/playlists it’s in.

If you’re not keen on removing it entirely(I’m not sure why you wouldn’t be), at least tune it to a more appropriate level. If you want to use the argument that Armor Lock is meant to save you from that rocket or incoming vehicle, then set it to such. Change the length of Armor Lock from 5 seconds to 2 seconds. Also, only implement it in medium-big team maps where there are more enemy hazards. If a person is skilled enough with their timing, their 2 second Armor Lock can save them from the rocket or vehicle and do only that, not let them be a bullet sponge while teammates come to their aid to kill the would-be victor. This would make Armor Lock a tad more timing based and would prevent the lengthy spamming of it.

Are you not doing anything about Armor Lock because you see it as a vital component of Reach that’s been around since the beginning and you’re afraid you’ll disrupt the longtime flow of Reach’s gameplay and turn off Reach veterans? Trust me, that’s absolutely not the case. Removing Armor Lock or at the very least tweaking it(mentioned above) would make the game all around more fun, would keep the remaining people on longer and would prevent new players from being turned off by the abomination that is Armor Lock.

I can understand that you want to focus your resources in Halo 4 but taking the action against Armor Lock could be done in less than a day and would require very little effort on your part. Please don’t adopt the attitude of “Halo 4 will be really awesome so just wait until then for a great experience while you Halo super fans have to put up with the woes of Reach because we don’t want to change it”. I’m sure Halo 4 will be amazing but keep improving Reach in the meantime for the people who love it and can see it being even better with the proper changes.

I strongly desire an official 343 Industries response.

I think Armor Lock is fine in the playlists with TU applied to them. I don’t play any default playlist unless it’s BTB, so I don’t have a problem with Armor Lock anymore. Well, unless the person is a one shot and goes into it. It gets aggravating, but then I just switch to MLG or Anniversary.

I would appose its removal because I use it, it was there when I bought the game and it would be a slap in the face of any consumer who has taken the time to learn a feature of the game and then have it removed a year later because other players didnt like it.
If you desire a AL’less battle, there are many playlist that dont include it, perhaps you would be better off playing those rather than attempting to remove other players toys because they are beating you with them.

uhm, wouldn’t the removal of armour lock alienate a large of portion of halo reach’s population?

alienating people just results in more people complaining and less people playing which isn’t a good idea.

> 343, you say you’re all about listening to fan feedback. I think it’s safe to say that most Halo fans who give feedback(minus the trolls) strongly dislike Armor Lock.

Pro-tip but this? Right here? Is NOT how you win fans to your argument.

while im against AL in anything remotely competitive, theres no harm in leaving it in the more casual playlists since a lot of kids like using it. its not a big deal if it was left in playlists like team slayer, BTB, invasion, ect…

> I think it’s safe to say that most Halo fans who give feedback(minus the trolls) strongly dislike Armor Lock. Why won’t you respond to this universally negative sentiment and simply remove it altogether from Matchmaking?

I think its safe to say that this is the most weasely rhetoric-laden sentence ive read in a serious post on waypoint for oh at LEAST 3 hours.

Armour Lock is still in matchmaking because people enjoy it. I enjoy it, even when im getting locked on. Story time:

About an hour ago i played a game on countdown with some guy who must have been on a slice and dice with the sword up top, i think he had host because i couldnt touch him. Eventually, i picked the AL loadout from the spawn screen and went at him. I knew he was camping by lift exit so i pretended to derp run in there like a moron, and when he lunged for me i timed it just right and locked down for half a second, just enough for him to bounce off and lose his shield, and then i slapped him down with my -Yoink!- hand. Killjoy medal, free sword and a righteous teabagging ensued. We call this “stratagem” and Reach has ample opportunity for it with all the armour abilities.

Felt good man.

Armor Lock adds a different view of diversity to the game. There has to be something to change things up or at least make you mad. If everything was equally balanced it would almost be boring.

That being said, the TU changes to Armor Lock are perfect. They balanced it just a tad bit, which I agree was needed. Reach is going to be known for AAs. The game that changed Halo forever, you could jetpack in the sky or plant in the ground with invincibility.

Just a well made and maintained game. At least on 343’s part of the maintaining.

I like TS…without AL. I cannot begin to count my friends who have put down REACH and moved on because of how AL changes the gameplay/style they love.

TS pop is pathetic, H3’s TS averaged around 20K to 25K…REACH’s TS is maybe 8K/9K at peak hours.

I play TS in REACH because I need my “fix”, and I put up with AL because I have to. I don’t enjoy the other playlists. TS is where it’s at IMO…it’s just frustrating that it has a cancer that ruins it most of the time.

343 doesn’t want to piss off those who abuse Armor Lock.

Plus it takes skill.

No, i am joking of course

Armor lock is the best proof that the forums are a vocal minority. I see people using armor lock all the time, obviously they like it, yet on here you would think every person in the world is foaming at the mouth at the thought of the evil armor lock.

Why shouldnt 343 remove it? because a lot of people use it, and a lot of people like it.

In case you didn’t know, Armor Lock has been nerfed twice. I don’t exactly remember the changes implemented but I know that some weapons deplete AL’s duration.
Here’s a quote for this month’s Matchmaking playlist update that include the following changes:

> • Team Objective, Squad Slayer and Multi Team updated to TU settings.
>
> TU game types are our standard Reach Matchmaking settings with the Title Update changes. Those changes are: damage bleed enabled, modified reticle bloom[85% bloom], sword block removed, Armor Lock modified, and Active Camo modified.

Also, there are a lot of people that enjoy this AA. Just because you and a few other members don’t like it doesn’t mean that it should be removed. I for one enjoyed the first TU changes, the other changes I haven’t got the chance of testing them.
Besides, I’ve payed $60 for the features brought in the game, not so the can be later on removed from matchmaking. But I do expect some fixes that would make the experience better.

EDIT:
I’m not sure if this is the latest change, but here’s a video explaining this changes:
Armor Lock -Title Update In-Depth Analysis - Halo: Reach

No one has any comments on the idea to tweak AL to 2 seconds?

Also, sure, there’s those TU gametypes but those don’t always get voted for. 343 needs to stop with all the gametype variations; TU-this, Anniversary-that. Just have one universal, default Reach gametype.

for games that I go in. I never see it spammed. it however gets spammed in multiteam.
They could use the TU armour lock in the social playlists but get rid of it in multiteam.

> for games that I go in. I never see it spammed. it however gets spammed in multiteam.
> They could use the TU armour lock in the social playlists but get rid of it in multiteam.

wat…

If i’m understanding you correctly, you get “AL spammed” in multi team, you think that ALL social playlists (meaning 95% of the playlists) should have the TU armor lock, but get rid of the TU AL in multi team? Or that they should get rid of AL altogether in multi team?

If it’s the latter; WTF are you actually agreeing that Reach could use fixing?!

I DON’T EVEN KNOW WHAT’S GOING ON ANYMORE

First off, Merry Christmas to you all if this is your holiday, second, i hate to burst your bubble but 343 tied another achievement to armor lock. This is proof that armor lock is not going anywhere. Now that there are two armor lock achievements in Reach means that armor lock will never be removed.

Armor lock needs to be taken out completely. I agree that on playlists that have TU implemented it really isn’t a big deal but it is certainly a problem when I’m owning you and you activate your armor lock and have nine of your buddies come to your aid before the lock runs out. Or before TU when you could nullify a stick just by pressing RB. What a hoot! It takes away from both the pacing and skill of the game and I will be very disappointed if it is featured in Halo 4 MM.

simple, just play playlist with no AL, like me

An.classic
Squad slayer
An. BTB (vote only for classic gametypes)

343 wont remove AL from all playlist,i hope they will not do the same mistakes of halo reach in halo 4 (AA’s, bloom, sword block etc)

and dont remove that playlist until halo 4 realease

> It takes away from both the pacing and skill of the game and I will be very disappointed if it is featured in Halo 4 MM.

Exactly.

if armour lock was removed early then that would have been fine and should have been done but now people have been using it for over year, there is a decent following for it and other people have decided to use it, removing it now would just alienate a fairly big portion of reach’s population causing then to go to other games which isn’t good, we are trying to keep reach alive and not kill it.
