Why is it that my rank depends on the team winning the round?
Is it because the overall objective of the game is to get your team to win?
Is my rank supposed to be a measure of my flexibility and competence in a situation where I help out my teammates?
Why is it not based on my KDA, that’s what really matters. Helping support my teammates doesn’t matter if I have 20 kills and no deaths, right? right?? I’m not the one that dragged down the team, all they got were assists, those are like fake kills.
couldn’t find the answer to this question so I was wondering what your guys’s answers would be, any help would be appreciated.
It think the answer is simple - objective is to win. Arena is 4 vs 4. We all play significantly better when we work together with other teammates - which will potentially increase your KDA and win total in general (you can still be matched up against a better team of 4). I use to play with a buddy and basically we would just always run together and I always thought “of Random #1 is holding us back”. 38 was the magic number. If me and my buddy could combine our slayer kill counts to 38 - we win - else we lose. Then I started to just play and help the full team (not just run with my buddy each life or try to cover him). W/L ratio shot up from 50 to 60% in past halo games, KD and KDA shot up. As an “individual player” - I am still better at halo 3 than I ever was at reach, 4 or will be at 5 - but I was a better team player in reach and 4 and hopefully 5.
Damage dealt is a better measurement than KDA for individual performance (now that we have that stat again…think last time we had it was halo 2). That’s your total contribution you made vs enemy spartans during a given match.
Because apart from FFA all the playlists are based on working well and winning as a Team not being a lone wolf. Also K/D means jack -Yoink- because if your K/D is high it means your playing people who are far less skilled than yourself. If you being matched well then your K/D should be damn close to 1. Also if you’re playing Team Arena then if the game type is Strongholds or CTF I couldn’t give a -Yoink- how many kills you get if you’re not actually going to help capture the flag or the territories.

Do you know one of the major reasons why Halo is different from every other FPS? The focus on winning the game, Halo is the only FPS where winning is all that matters. This is one of the biggest draws to the game. If you reward people with high K/Ds then it will simply become like other FPS shooters where camping becomes the norm because that’s the best way to have a good K/D. I play Halo because of how much less camping there is and because of the major focus on winning the game. This is best shown in objective games. Plenty of teams with negative K/Ds have won objective games against teams with positive K/Ds, you know why, because there is more to being good at a game then having a high K/D and Halo is one of the few games left that understands this, so I don’t agree with you at all. But lucky for you, you have plenty of alternative games to choose from that don’t care about winning or teamwork!!! I wish I had as many options as you had for competitive games.
