Why is Analyze Exclusive to Kinect?

> Next year when Halo 4 comes out you can be damn sure there will be much bigger features than this that will be Kinect exclusive. I wouldn’t be surprised if there were whole sections of the game you can only play with Kinect.

> Also I’ll bet they release a Halo 4 themed 360 console with a Halo 4 themed Kinect.

If this happens ill be saying bye-bye to my Xbox, i love how Microsoft are building up to forcing people to buy a peripheral that probably doesn’t suit how they play games. Kinect should be for Kinect exclusive games only, not in games where it just doesnt belong

> This is all an increasingly annoying example of how some people can just never have enough.

So you aren’t gonna get Anniversary and Halo 4? All the Halo stuff will be online after it’s release. So while we are busy blasting our way through Halo 4’s first level, you’ll be sitting on your bed in fluffy pajamas reading all about Halo 4? See? Its much more fun to do it hands on, not go online and look at everything.

btw, you sir are a very good debater. lol

Well, quite.

The problem with Kinect is that not everyone has it, so there’s a sizeable gamble involved in making a Kinect exclusive game. Therefore it makes sense for a publisher to produce a game that works without Kinect, but is “better” with it.

With Microsoft having a vested interest in Kinect it makes even more sense for them to support it in a meaningful way. Unfortunately, virtually everything that you can do with Kinect could be mapped to the controller in one way or another (with the exception of dancing/fitness) so people will criticise any functionality they add for it (as evidenced in this thread).

> It’s a pathetic money-grab by Microsoft because nobody is buying Kinect.

> I love how BS angel completely ignored the fan outrage on this matter in the the newest Bulletin.

there was local outrage about the mysterious deaths of my latest wife and most recent batch of kids, also I was told to stop laughing at their funerals (this is a lie it was my way of grieving their tragic passing)

I believe kinect should be for friends or clan pull up and custom items import ing into halo anniversary CE. But other then that i would have to agree this would be a bad idea. What did he mean by analyze anyways? Importing items.

I have a kinect and can say that the biggest sales from the beginning were to schools and kinect computer hackers. I use the kinect sdk for windows and i can say minority report will be on us soon the way the sdk is progressing!
But i believe kinect is overload for us gamers this soon. Shouldnt microsoft offer choice like they do with their OS’s? That’s the logical step to make money microsoft! not throw it in now built into the game unless its menu rollcall or for map item importing but for map importing its better to have it be my custom weapon or building which would be a pain importing with the regular xbox camera because you need the angles of it.

Never mind i figure out that what analyze was i want it in the game but want a controller option too for it. Everyone kinect comes with the new xbox 360 anyways and i’ve had my xbox 360 since 2008 they issued the rrod xbox replacement’s and its still ticking away working.
Personally i think for importing items into forge it would be great seeing how people have done it on the computer with kinect quite nicely i might add. For instance, turn you character into a marine in forge and play as your character in a campaign battle and that’s probably the lower side of what can be done with the kinect tech right now. Higher side weapons customization and turning legos creations into feared realistic monsters in halo ce.

Flawless cow boy no one said you had to by the kinect to throw a grenade its optional. You should really pay attention. Just like a feature in game you can turn off and still use old fashioned remote.

Oh, geez you need to stop acting like a 5 year old kid in a toy store were they delayed your toy for a week in layaway at walmart or another store.

> Flawless cow boy no one said you had to by the kinect to throw a grenade its optional. You should really pay attention. Just like a feature in game you can turn off and still use old fashioned remote.

Erm… I don’t think I’ve said anything about grenades… Was this aimed at someone else?

While I hate to interrupt the bickering over whether or not this feature being exclusive is ethically right, I think I might have found a legitimate problem with it.

So lets say there are two guys, Dave and Jim. Now lets say they want to play co-op over Live. Both Dave and Jim use mics and Jim has a Kinect. Jim wants to try and help beef up his library while playing. Dave wants to beat the game on Legendary. After playing for a little while, Dave gets annoyed with Jim constantly saying “analyze” into the mic, and asks Jim to mute it when he isn’t talking to him. Jim complies. Later, Jim looks over at Dave and notices a grunt about to throw a grenade at Dave. Jim unmutes his mic and warns Dave. However, Jim unwittingly says the word “grenade” while warning Dave. Jim’s Kinect hears Jim say this, and throws an additional grenade at Dave. Dave explodes. Dave is not happy. Expletives are exchanged between Dave and Jim.

I own a Kinect, and I would prefer a maped d-pad button to a voice command any day.

> And I know the library looks like it has gesture controls as well as voice. My point is that it feels tacked on. The entire library seems to have no way be built specifically for Kinect. It feels like the idea of using Kinect to access has been shoe-horned in. I honestly wouldn’t mind if Kinect users got some feature that wouldn’t be plausible for someone with a controller. That makes a lot of sense. Can’t you see that this content has been intentionally walled off for no other reason than to make it exclusive to Kinect? Is there any harm at all in letting the library be accessed by a controller other than financial?
>
> And nah, I don’t mind pre-order incentives. I do think they’re annoying for the customer when they’re so confusing and exclusive to different retailers but I don’t think it’s unethical. DLC. And I don’t even mind DLC released a month after a game launches. I don’t think any sane developer in the world butchers their game in order to sell it back to people after launch. I think it’s every developer’s motive to release the most complete game they can.
>
> I actually own a Kinect. It’s on our second XBOX that my kids use in what is called ‘the Gamecube room’. If I wanted to I could hook it up to my main XBOX, in fact I probably will. I’m not upset that I’m missing out on anything, in fact most people on these forums who have a Kinect don’t mind and that reflects the general attitude of gamers. Gamers are too easily shafted. I’m just a man of principles. I think this is wrong. Now, sure it’s only a minor feature but it’s the principle. If someone does something wrong it’s the principle that bothers me not the severity. If someone walked up to your wallet and opened it up and took a dollar out of it would you just say “ah well, it’s only a dollar?”
>
> It’s 343’s actions that I disagree with, not the severity. If we give developers an inch they’ll take a mile. Today it’s just a Library feature. If they feel like they can they’ll take us all for a ride. Who knows what amounts of content will be walled off to promote superfluous peripherals. What about needing a Windows phone to play Firefight? Sure that’s ridiculous but it’s the same principle. Where do we draw the line?

They already have a windows phone only thing planned. Its a overhead view of every multiplayer map and if you are playing on that map at the time then in real time it will show your position and your teamates position on your phone. I thought this was awesome, then i found out it was only for windows phone owners.

I too am disappointed that this feature is exclusive to Kinect, but if Microsoft think that this will make me go out and buy one of those things, then they will be disappointed themselves. I already know pretty much everything about Halo CE, so I won’t learn anything new from the Analyse feature.

Seriously, why would you make Analyze a kinect-only feature? This is just another ploy by Microsoft to sell. Because SOME people will go and spend money on a Kinect now. It’s ridiculous! 343 have split up the community before their first games’ release! WE HAVE A NEW WORLD RECORD!! Now it’s going to be Kinect - Non-Kinect arguments over these forums… Great jobs guys, really. You really are following in Bungie’s footsteps… Start great and crash and burn towards the end…

Well I’M not giving Microsoft any more money! I’ll buy the game and that’s it! I’ll settle for no Analyze mode over giving Microsoft £100 for Kinect. They’re going to notice REAL soon that people hate it when they’re not included in the best stuff… I might even just sell my xbox and focus on my PC…

Did you forget that 343 is BFFs with Microsoft?

I know but 343 gets the majority of the games’ profits. Being the makers or remasterererers… so yup I hope I aint giving Microsoft a lot.

You know you can still play the game without it right? The library stuff is just stuff you prably already knew. You don’t HAVE to get it, it’s optional.

Flawless cowboy that was an example of something you would probably make up.
Please dont troll Flawless. By troll i mean you intend to flame or make people angry. Also, honestly i think you should shakes hands Flawless and just forget your differences because you wont remember this thread after halo ce comes out and i think i could care less about the analyze or greanade throwing with kinect i just want the kinect purely for custom items importing in forge that’s an improvement by any standards.

the trailer says you can use the kinect to bring up that screen with analyze but it doesnt tell you anything about settings and microsoft is not dumb enough to push this on us full scale if you look at their practice with windows game and windows OS releases they do the same practices. For instance, windows incorprated features into vista which it knew without a doubt would suck so it could make windows 7 which took those features and made it rock.

As the famous moon landing quote goes: “One small step one gaint leap for mankind”.

Im with you guys though kinect should not be fully implemented or can be turned off at your leisure both work for me.

BTW, windows 8 can play a fairly good amount of windows 95 dos games and has compatibility with some dos programs and its not even in beta stage yet.

You’re really being ridiculous, kid. It’s a trivial little feature no one really cares about. You should be thankful Microsoft didn’t make something significant Kinect-exclusive. And I gurantee you it was MS’ call, not 343’s. I wouldn’t be surprised if Microsoft told them to make a Kinect-exclusive feature, and that’s the only reason the feature exists in the first place. Because Microsoft OWNS 343, and they have the final say on everything, and get all the money, minus 343’s paychecks.

“Now it’s going to be Kinect - Non-Kinect arguments over these forums…”

Well, if you didn’t post the 200th thread about this, we wouldn’t have this issue…

> So you aren’t gonna get Anniversary and Halo 4? All the Halo stuff will be online after it’s release…See? Its much more fun to do it hands on, not go online and look at everything.

They are two entirely different concepts, and actually one of the reasons I didn’t like “The Flood.” When you read a plot synopsis online, it’s a vague summary that leaves out all the action, gameplay, and visuals.

However, that’s not what you’re “missing out on” with this Library.

True, there is the “3D model,” but this is something that is manipulated with gestures from the Kinect’s motion capture. You need the Kinect for this. The rest of it? Entirely text. Side-stepping the collection process, as that’s a process done once and never again, this is what you can simply look up online and get the same effect. There is no true difference between reading text on your game or reading text online.

Will you still miss out on analyzing and moving the models without a Kinect? Yes, but it’s not like these actions bring anything new. We already know what everything looks like, and analyzing is basically staring long and hard at a corpse or object. The end result is the exact same as online; walls of text, and no achievement at the end of this chore.

I think this is just a waste but prehaps microsoft is up to something if their putting it in the game? They do that with windows you know too. So i imagine that will lead to greater game stuff like ai map placement and other useful features. Its like microsoft’s playing with a hot potato then next game or windows comes out you go that wins points over the last one with its better features and abilities it saved you time on.
