It makes no sense. It doesn’t take advantage of Kinect in any way that a controller can’t.
I would understand if there was features exclusive to Kinect that fully exploited Kinect, like a mode in which you steered a Warthog with your body or something similar.
But really, aiming at something and scanning it is actually easier with a controller.
There is absolutely no reason why this feature is for Kinect only. 343 cannot possibly claim that this feature is only possible with Kinect. Are they really saying that the only way to really utilize a feature that requires you to say a single word requires the purchase of a $200 infared camera that can track skeletal movement, read your facial expressions and emotions?
It’s easier to do this with a button. By the time you utter the word analyze you could have pressed a button a dozen times.
It’s clear that this feature was sliced out and made exclusive to Kinect purely and simply as a purchase incentive for Kinect. And this is hardly surprising since Microsoft is the developer.
They included it because it’s immerse. And you still am with the controller you just use your body to move the 3d model. I have a Kinect myself and I agree they could do it with a button, but 343i and MS are best buds so they have to support each other.
MS is not the developer by the way, they are the publisher.
Although your points are valid it just boils down to let the kinect owners have something. It doesn’t add something that completely revolutionizes the way the game will be played for years to come, its basically an encyclopedia. Just like you wouldn’t get pissed that they didn’t release red flames or theam warrent officer (i believe that’s its name) elite armoe for people that didn’t buy the legendary edition of reach.
Well put it this way, remember when Kinect came out, it was the best thing ever, then shortly after, the only impressive thing about it was the hacks people were doing with it?
Well it’s still in that state and Microsoft have woke up and realised they spent all this money on Kinect and it is going downhill.
They are trying to milk as much out of Kinect as possible, by implementing Kinect only features in a few games, CEA being one of the first with an option like this.
While I am against Microsoft/343i for this decision, I can understand why they did it.
Yup. MS has to make Kinect owners feel like they got some bang for there buck, and the fact that I’m one of the few people who can use analyze makes it oh so much more special for me.
I’m not really sure how the 343-Microsoft relationship fundamentally works, but I’m fairly confident that this was forced by Microsoft.
I will agree that the idea isn’t special or very great in any way at all, and I think Kinect is, bluntly, a bad idea. However, it being there and being not available to me doesn’t affect me in the slightest because I don’t really have any interest whatsoever in being able to ‘analyze.’
I agree, it really doesn’t need to be a kinect only feature. And I know it’d work just fine on controller because it’s essentially the same idea as the scanning system in Metroid Prime.
They could at least let you look at the information about the things you analyze, even if they don’t let you use the feature. It’s kind of a jerk move to make something really cool exclusive to people that bought something that has nothing to do with Halo in a Halo game. I guess if you don’t have a kinect you’re not considered a true Halo fan, so you don’t deserve a cool feature in your favorite game. Makes sense.

Same for me too my friend.
Ps. I do feel sorry for those that do not have a Kinect.
It’s better to do with kinect and it’s also just adding kinect into the game so that people who bought kinect don’t feel like they’ve wasted money. They are encouraging more people to buy kinect because now you can add another game to the list that supports kinect. The more games people see, the more sales kinect will get and eventually kinect will be essential to every XBox 720 (???) owner. And probably a KINECT 2 coming out soon.

That, or the Kinect will end up being a failed attempt to appeal to a broader population with motion controls, like Play Station Move but not a blatant Wii ripoff. I think it’s interesting technology-wise, but there’s not a single game in the Kinect library I’d be interested in playing. And with MS trying to shove it down consumer’s throats incessantly all it really does alienate consumers and make people irritated.
