Alright, I’m going to rant here.
Why is extraction getting it’s own playlist? I have seen nothing about anyone asking for that on the Forums or elsewhere. At all. And although it’s a novel idea to keep switching up the Hopper to keep things “Fresh”, it’s all a mute effort considering the only playlists that get a solid amount of population are infinity Slayer and BTIS, which combined make up over half of the total population on any given day. If you were really trying to get people to play other playlists, you would swap out a new playlist for one of those playlists. All you’re doing by swapping out the lesser played playlists for more playlists that people don’t want/know about is creating a vicious cycle where population counts are constantly low, and if you want to find any games at a relatively quick rate you must go into one of the god-awful infinity playlists. My point is, extraction is going to have a population of about 400 for the next week, and it’s kind of a waste to add it in period when you could be working towards something the community has been asking for?
That brings me to my next question as to, why are you wasting time on such insignificant projects like said extraction playlist when you could be focusing on a classic playlist that is being begged for. You could be working on giving the custom gaming community the options they have been begging for. You could be working on implementing Ranks in game like the competitive community has been begging for. You could be working on giving the forging community the tools to create vivid and beautiful maps like they have been begging for.
Case and point: Why do you insist on working to your own agenda, and ignoring the community and what they have been begging for? You say you don’t have the resources to do these things, yet you waste the resources on something like a playlist that will hold a population of a couple hundred for a week. What makes you think that makes sense? Do you not see how when you listen to the community you get praised and moral goes up? How can you just completely ignore the cause and effect of that?
It is absolutely flabbergasting to me how this happens. Listen to your communities, and you will be praised.
Anyway, now that I got that out of my system, the wallpapers are nifty I guess. Majectic maps are pretty good! But why, if I want to play FFA, do I have to play them on the majestic maps only? Why can’t I go play FFA on the other maps that are already in the game?
Oh yeah. Because you thought an extraction playlist would be a more prevalent and worth while project.
Cool.
Someone once made an excellent analogy about 343’s attitude.
It was something about not paying for sour cream cause you dont like it, but Taco Bell insists you do and gives it to you anyway… Something about tacos… You can work out the rest.
A bit harsh but I agree.
Adding BTB objective is a good use of time.
Fixing issues with BTB is a good use of time.
Adding more maps to Throwdown is a good use of time.
Adding more Flood gametypes and maps is a good use of time.
Adding Action Sack is a good use of time.
Adding FFA for non-dlc users is a good use of time.
So on, so forth.
Adding a playlist for a gamemode people probably aren’t even going to care about is a rather poor use of time.
Let’s also consider that the Extraction playlist was probably already bundled and ready to go in November.
Does anywhere here honestly know what goes into creating a new playlist? I’m sure it’s not so simple as just running an .exe file or pressing teh Easy Button. These things take coding, testing, fixing, more testing. Just because you don’t see the end result doesn’t mean they’re “Wasting time”.
I reall dont’ think it’s ignoring the community so much as taking the time required to address community needs.
I trust 343 is working on things like BTO, Action Sack, and Multi Team. In fact, they’ve said that Action Sack is already in the works.
One of the main problems is that they just simply don’t think anything is wrong with this game. They made it how they wanted to make it, it’s terrible but it’s what they wanted. They wanted to make a game to cater toward the newer generation of gaming, the generation that call of duty cultivated, and they’ve done just that.
Unfortunately, they put themselves in quite a quandary because call of duty kids will play call of duty, not halo 4. The end result was a horribly unbalanced game, filled to the brim with flaws that are impossible to miss.

Did you miss the point?
It’s exactly like you said…

Yes they are.
Instead of doing all of this for an Extraction playlist that “they” want, they should be doing this for a playlist that the community wants.
I agree with you to a certain extent. Replacing the two most popular playlists (whether you personally like them or not) is just a bad idea all around, though.
What’s most perplexing to me is how little attention is being given to the players who like those playlists; the “competitive community” got it’s own dedicated playlist along with altered Objective settings (both bottom of the barrel population-wise, but neither will be removed for Extraction) and are getting CSR which will reset everyone’s Trueskill whether they want it or not. Grifball community got it’s own playlist. Forgers got a few of their maps into matchmaking.
Infinity players have gotten… a slight reduction in the Boltshot’s range. That’s despite the fact that rebalancing the loadouts and ordnace were one of the earliest and most common requests, and in spite of the fact it would improve the game for the largest amount of players.
But how 343 really spends it’s time and how it “should” is mostly just conjecture and opinion. I don’t know how any of them spend their workday, but I’m 99% positive they have much more and accurate data than any of us and just hope they use it to formulate a strategy that works for everyone, shortterm and long.
