Why is 343 so incompetent at the most basic stuff?

You’re arguing with someone who doesn’t exist. Nothing I said should have indicated that I think 343i is my friend or that a corporate entity can have its feelings hurt. This is what I mean. People engage in such ridiculous hyperbole that I’m just encouraged to scroll past.

People are definitely calling out Bonnie and Ske7ch. I’m sure you may have not seen it, but it happens. Regardless of that fact, I don’t think people need to call out people by name to be engaging in toxic behavior.

That’s a reach. When I see people trash talking the developers, I assume they’re trash talking the developers. If they’re not, then they should probably use a little more specificity when they call people out on public forums.

Don’t hold your breath. It’s one of the most profitable entertainment industries in the history of mankind. It’s nothing like the days of Atari.

Bonnie Ross is the head of 343i. The buck certainly stops at her. She’s a leader and as such should have done a better job for her subordinates.

Do you think I literally mean that Microsoft snuck in and fricked around with the code while the developers were asleep? I encourage you to read up on the behind the scenes of any video game that fell flat at launch. nine and-a-half times out of ten it is wholly due to mismanagement.

Again, if the dev team was incompetent the game would not feel so tight to play, the weapons would be absurdly unbalanced, the voice performances would by awful, the art style would stink, the code base would be a disaster, the rendering would be screwed, players would clip through geometry, kills wouldn’t count properly, the marketing team wouldn’t have marketed the game, matchmaking would be borked on day one.

The fact that the game is as good as it is, which seem to be the general sentiment from casual players and reviewers across the board, is an indication that the developers are not incompetent. I would challenge you to explain to me what an incompetent developer results in without using self-referential material or circular logic.

or do you just assume thats what theyre doin?

yeah guys, figure out who specifically chose to make the new helmet 7 bucks in the store and only specifically that guy
pretty sure most people get the idea that when they say “343” they aint puttin the blame on the damn janitor but whoever at 343 decided to make all these bullcrap choices

or who hired who made those choices or approved of those choices.

But don’t forget the actual bugs in the game.
So there certainly is enough “credit” to go around for everyone with the exception of the janitor.
Unless one of the developers wants to claim Halo Infinite was the result of a not perfectly cleaned sanitation compartment.

or who hired the person who hired the person to approve those choices

When someone says, “The devs are incompetent.” I assume they mean that, yes. I do not think they are lying when they say that is what they think.

That’s clearly not what I mean. I mean if you’re going to call out the management, then say management. If you’re going to call out Phil Spencer, as just an offhand example, then call out Phil Spencer. Don’t call out the developers when you actually mean the executives or the corporate suits or the marketing team. I feel like I’m being extremely reasonable.

pretty sure you tried to do that with me once and ive never done that

it pretty much is

or im just gonna make it easier and say 343, dont really care about makin some rando on this forum happy with who i name

nah

A heretic amongst our divine Covenant!

I’d guess you’re the one who’s 5 if you’re completely inept to discuss your matter without the usage of course words - clear sign of lacking maturity IMO.

Im not dunking on devs, i do blame the leads. They are the ones who looked at the product and said “meh, good enough”. That said…

The code base is kind of a disaster, some developers have spoke openly about Faber being difficult to work with so much so that they spent quite some time considering switching to UE4.
Rendering is kind of screwy, this weeks cyber showdown visor is off centre by quite a bit, as is the mohawk.
Kills don’t count properly, the netcode is atrocious. If you mean actually counting up, there has been weekly challenges that didn’t count properly and needed addressing, last weeks 3 double kills for example.
Marketing, im assuming layout the box art, it states on the box its campaign in co op. It isn’t.
Matchmaking IS borked. If it wasn’t it wouldn’t be placing players of all skill levels in random high ping lobbies.

Again, im not blaming the developers, coding is hard. I blame the department leads for being OK with these sub par submissions. They should have been less willing to accept mediocrity and pushing for a more complete solution.

Reviews are IMO largely useless. A lot of it is paid advertisements lets be honest. Review’s can largely be skewed by also having the new shiny and not wanting to see the cracks beneath the surface. Id say the general sentiment from the casual players is also pretty obvious given Infinites ever declining playerbase.

Even a million flies sitting happily on a pile of dog poop still doesn’t change the fact about what they are sitting on.

Where do you get that the “general sentiment” is “good”?

How about this very simple fact:

The scoreboard shows 1 win 1 loss and 1 tie round when in fact you played 3 rounds of oddball and 2 were won and 1 was lost or vice versa.

I am not sure what you what call that kind of quality coding but to me that is plain and simple a very high degree of incompetence.

No “self-referential material or circular logic” needed - there you have it, happy to oblige

Anyone that denies 343 being incompetent is ignoring their constant blunders ever since they were handed the reigns of the franchise.

Some of us have been here since eons ago, even the b.net days. Make no mistake, 343 does not “get it”. For every genuinely good thing they do, for every step in the right direction, there is always a caveat, and a whole lot of them.

Complaining about the voicings of disgruntled (yet passionate) fans on here is a zero sum game. Pushing for purely constructive criticism as to eliminate whining and disrespect so that 343 can have an “easier” time with feedback is laughable. They do not care. They did not actively interact with us on Waypoint in 2012, and 10 long years later not much is different. I wonder if frank still $hitposts on the GAF instead of coming here .

Even with their giant team, countless contractors, and assistance from a laundry list of companies, 343 still manages to deliver a half baked result. Infinite was supposed to be their magnum opus; what would it have looked like if it released on time in 2020?

Over promise - under deliver, is the modus operandi. of 343.
It is always 3 steps forward, 43 steps back with them.

Why?

Halo 4 - destroyed franchise multiplayer, OK campaign
Halo MCC - most broken AAA launch of the modern era; so hilariously broken that it’s not plausible to think 343 was surprised by it
Halo 5 - destroyed franchise campaign, OK multiplayer but one which continued to alienate their old fans
Halo Infinite - launched maybe 20% of a complete, polished game after 6 years and allegedly $500M thrown at them. A “Live Service” with less launch window support than Halo 3.

343 are the definition of incompetent. They were handed one of gaming’s top franchises and they have buried it six feet under the ground repeatedly with their world-class decision making like "let’s hire people who hate our game!". And the community has always been able to tell 343 exactly what the problems are with each game within 1-2 months after launch, if not sooner.

They are a studio run by greedy, incompetent, arrogant liars.

Lol love this. 343 has broken my heart with Halo time and time again. I honestly can admit I fell for the trap of hoping that “this time will be better”. But at the same time, I’m not surprised. 343=microsoft…literally. They’re a made up franchise with Microsoft’s money to keep the Halo franchise going. Halos are now just halo-skinned fps games. They’re not halo at all

At this point it is better to call them 343 Incompetence than 343 Industries lol

Maybe hire some talented people who actually want to work and have some degree of respect. Im all for fair treatment but all this coddling of employees has gotten out of hand. They are there to work. Their personal issues should stop at the entrance. Dont like it. Leave.

Also. Diversity hiring is -Yoink!- insane. Ability used to count for something.
