Why i'm personaly not a fan of this BR

Look, i’m okay with battle royals being a thing. and i’m okay with halo having one, presuming it’l actually be unique in its own way.

BUT… i’m personaly not excited, nor a fan of it because…
1#: the servers… need i remind people of how porely the servers handled BTB at launch? to the point of having the players roll back to 16v16, because, and i think this was the case, the servers couldn’t handle the players… so what makes you think the servers can or will handle 100 player BR in a big map?
and even if they do fix the servers… considering the current ones can barely handle BTB let alone standared 4v4. it’l be most especially messy on the actual BR

2#: i have no trust in certain affinity nor 343… i really don’t trust that they’l produce a competent or even functional BR. i mean, they released h5 in a messy state, and now infinite again in a messy state. sure we havn’t seen certain affinity’s work for halo but… given that microsoft is letting the current state of infinite be unchecked for months now, i doubt it’l have any QA/QC.
that and also, given that 343 is going towards its ‘broader audiance’… it most likely wont feel at all like halo. it wont be halo implemented to a br… it’l just be a BR with a halo skin. likely caturing towards the fortnite and warzone players because it’s a br… not because it’s a halo br

3#: main reason… anyone else remember what 343 stated?
‘the only BR we’re interested in is the battle rifle’ in some interview prior to infinite? and yet here we are getting a BR… meaning 343 blatently lied. once again… so if the patterns show that 343 lies, then why ought we to believe that it’l be ANY GOOD?

EDIT: after being told of certain affinities prior work, i do have a bit of faith in it actually being good… however, said faith is quickly squished when i realize that in someway 343/microsoft will ruin the experience one way or another

Its just another trick to get more publicity and money. If they do actually create one it’ll most definitely be bugged to the max and have players swarming with discontent. Just like with nearly everything they do. . . They can’t even make the base game correctly or completely. They need to focus on getting back to a solid foundation but we all know that is not going to happen. As long as 12 years olds are willing to dump their parents money into a trash system just for unique appearance, 343 is going to reap as much as they can. . .

Its so sad to see the legacy of Halo go down in a ball of flames just because greed is a main ideal here in the states and everyone is just going along with it. The only performance that matters in MURICA is dollars. No devotion to cause, no dedication to franchise, and no compassion towards the people who carry the title.

Society sees how companies in America are acting and they are learning. . . Why pour heart and soul into something when you can just manipulate your fans to do what you want for money.

Where is the honor? where is the pride? Where is the commitment? Where is the Quality Assurance?

If any of you have not seen the movie IDIOCRACY, you should check it out. because that is where America is tragically headed…

I think that they were saying that 343 has no interest. Either to make fans not be super worried about it, or some other thing. Either way, 343 technically isn’t doing the BR, so…
I do think that it is a little bit sleezy to do a bait and switch though, especially since this has divided the community (though some just don’t want a BR because they don’t like them) but I think that a BR, once the game is smooth, will be a great way to expand the game’s audience.

Just saw that movie for the first time last week. Great movie, laughed a ton.

But the point you make is solid.

Frank O Connor when asked about choosing brands to rep the Halo name, he related it to -Yoink!-. everything you need to know about Halo and 343i management is right in that sentence structure.

I’m paraphrasing here but here’s what i heard.

“We have no idea how to handle Halo and respect the integrity of the brand so we are ousting are fans for new ones who mindlessly will buy our product”

same! but i’m sure the key fraze there is ‘once the game is smooth’… that ain’t gunna happen for a while now, so… priorities are all over the place at 343 -v-

Didn’t really work out too well for Star Trek, Star Wars, or Battlefield 2042.
But they’re more than welcome to keep embarrassing themselves if they really want to.

It literally isn’t out yet.

I’d save my judgement till a playable version is out. No point wasting energy here whining about something you can’t change or influence.

It may be good or it may be bad but there is always MCC.

Why I am a fan of BR (mainly PUBG)

Always different, end game will always be at a different section of the map. You have to adjust on the fly, no scoping down a section of the map knowing there’s a spawn point because there is no spawns.

More team work involved, more commutation and more social with your team. I’ve been playing XBL with the same people for nearly 20 years. Halo, COD, Gears etc. and ever since PUBG we all became more social than we ever had.

Why I’m a fan of PUBG, the game all depends on you. There’s no aim assist, no bullet mag, no hit scan weapons, all on you. You have to lead your shots, barrel and sight distance plays a part also. Bullets fire from your barrel, not your crosshair. You shoot between the legs, between the arm and torso, you miss. Simple as that. When you get a kill, you earned that kill. There’s a much more rewarded feeling knowing this.

MURICA didn’t need to be this much opposed to the concept of “sharing is caring”. Since they are though, video games like Halo are negatively impacted. Maybe we should all just play Branching Sickness (that upcoming Halo Flood fangame) instead.

Perhaps even my own bruh moment Halo fangame is better in this particular regard because money is not the focus. Fans [obviously] not being able to monetize their games is a great blessing in disguise because fans will prioritize making a fun game over making money.

Understandable. However, counterpoint:

This upcoming gamemode, which is stated to be like unto a battle royale only by description and not by name, is produced by Certain Affinity.

Judging by your statement that we, verbatim, “haven’t seen Certain Affinity’s work for halo”, I will conclude that you are entirely unaware of Certain Affinity’s involvement with the Halo franchise. To rectify this, I will now provide a paraphrased version of their doings cited directly from their own website. ( ht tps://www.certainaffinity.com/games/halo/ )

2007 - Certain Affinity was asked by Microsoft to develop maps for the “Halo 2 Blastacular Map Pack”, which consisted of ‘Tombstone’ and ‘Desolation’. These were full remasters of ‘Hang ‘em High’ and ‘Derelict’ from Halo: Combat Evolved updated to work for Halo 2’s multiplayer.

2009 - Certain Affinity contributed development to the Halo Waypoint app for the Xbox 360. Specifically, they led client-side design and development on the project.

2011 (A)- Certain Affinity joins 343 Industries and Saber Interactive to bring Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary to the Xbox 360. The things they did specifically were as follows:

• Developed 7 co-op and PvP maps, remaking some of the most popular maps from the original Halo. This required: updated art, design elements, and design components sourced from Halo Reach.

*Provided knowledge and passion for the prior mentioned maps and the game itself for the project, though this is more subjective and less objective.

2011 (B)- Certain Affinity contributes the production of the ‘Defiant’ Map Pack for Halo Reach. This included 3 firefight and PvP maps.

Additionally, it’s noted that Certain Affinity was developing this content for Halo Reach in parallel with their development on Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, and this is noted as a suggestion of the studio’s capabilities “as a multi-project studio.”

2012- Certain Affinity works with 343 Industries on Halo 4. In specific, they developed the following themselves:

• Halo 4’s Forge, including it’s features and content

• Multiplayer game modes including “Dominion”

• Approximately 10 feature-complete PvP maps

• The “Majestic, Castle and Bullseye” map pack, which added an additional 8 maps

2014- Certain Affinity takes on the role of updating Halo 2 within the Master Chief Collection. They performed the following services:

• Besides updating the entire title, they most notably updated the client-side development and progression features

• Completed 6 multiplayer map remakes consisting primarily of fan favorites, all with new art assets

That’s where the list ends on their website, which brings us to the present day.

Right now, they’re working on Halo Infinite’s Forge and the codenamed “Tatanka” game mode that we’re currently anticipating.

The takeaway from all this?

Doubting 343 and questioning Microsoft is rational, as well as questioning their ability to maintain servers for a mode this large. But make no mistake: Certain Affinity isn’t going to butcher whatever they’re up to.

okay, i see your counter point. i should’ve done my research on their work on halo.

their work on halo 2, waypoint, and reach’s map pack were pretty good. though… CE:A sin’t as much so

their h4 maps were also pretty good, despite 343’s artstyle change. though they were unable to fix the iffy forge of the game

H2:A as a whole wasn’t bad, the maps were beutiful, though the armor for elites and spartans weren’t as much so. but given the H4 engine they had to deal with, it was really good

so it does seem as though they know how to make fantastic maps, presumably even know how to optimize them. they as well know how to make fun modes in the halo format. though UI could use some work… but you are right, it does seem like they should be able to nail it decently so

though i still have my doubts… as though they are partners with microsoft, microsoft would be the publisher and thusly would have the final say in things. and judging by the state of infinite… either they dont care and let certain affinity run free, OR they get touchy with things… hopefully it’s the former option. that worry, along with the server issue… maybe they’l be also allowed to patch up the net coding 343 butchered. i mean, a game may have good gameplay, but that’s only backed up by the servers. but we’l see

The BR mode is targeted at the upcoming audience that relate to this.

“hey honey, I want to try that Halo Videogame, as this TV series is pretty good”

343i wanted a broader audience, they got one.

I don’t really think they achieved the broader audience. The Halo TV show is getting dragged across social media by tons of non-halo fans. It’s really just not a good show in general. (Disregarding all of Halo Lore entirely it’s just a dumpster fire]

The game is being dragged across all socials
The show is being dragged across all socials

Steam count is basically non-existent with xbox falling spots daily.

Question then,

How are they planning on supporting a BR mode if they can’t even maintain the game in its current state with bug fixes (desync), anti cheat, regular content drops, new maps and modes, new weapons etc?

They can barely maintain what we have had for the past 6 months.

answer… they can’t! they’re just too up their own -brute- to realize that they aren’t in a good state… not just for a BR, but in general. both 343 and microsoft are to blame.
343 aren’t in a good state employee wise because of their dumb plan to hire contract workers. and thusly can’t support the game currently
and microsoft just clearly doesn’t care enough to QA/QC their flagship series, and let this mess slide by with not even a single slap of the wrist

Same here. I just hope it’s fun and can stand out in an already full field. I feel the halo sand box could lend itself to a solid mode however; and on a smaller scale multi team has been a thing and worked. Just gotta wait and see at this point.

I will say though, if dropping in isn’t done via ODST drop pods it’s dead to me lol

I need to be able to kick down the door like the Chief does on Delta Halo and it actually does splatter damage.

Medal: DOORSTOPPER

That is exactly what they have been doing since H4 basically. They get people who don’t know or care about Halo to make Halo. Then when the fires rage on they try to play it off by saying its for a "different audience’ or as DA Bonnie said “broader audience”.
So they’ve got people that don’t know how to make Halo, making it for people who don’t play or like Halo… What a great business model… And then they blame the fan base for being negative after they drag Halo through the mud for years… What a bunch of YOINKS…

You’re doing a LOT of assuming about Infinite even getting a battle royale mode or what it will be like if one is ever added.
