Why I'm glad HLS is replacing AL

I’d rather play against someone using the HLS than someone using AL. AL was just the most noob, unskilled, unfair thing in the world. No one should be able to cheat death and wait for their teammates to bail them out. Or to just cheat death pop out of AL EMPing you and making you at a disadvantage and clos to death when you should have a kill in the first place. At least with HLS you can attack from sides and back. Bounce grenades under the shield. And melee through the shield. And it can be damaged and destroyed and is not invinsible. But yet it is not useless! This is much more preferable than AL. Armor Lock is the main and only reason I rarely to never play Team Slayer in Reach. It’s infuriating to even see. I started only playing SWAT. Not too long ago I started playing MLG playlist a little but in all now I’m mainly playing Halo 3 because Armor Lock is ruining Reach… Halo 4 should be fine with the Hard Light Shield. It looks like it could agrivate you but that person is still vernarable to attack you just have to adjust. Plus it can be destroyed which is the better thing about it. HLS is just fine. I have to say I’m liking Halo 4’s AA’s better. They all look balanced and fair. Which is good, I’ll think Halo 4 will be the best of both Halo 3 and Reach which is really exciting and awesome! So I can’t wait. Good Job 343.

EDIT: The hardlight shield is essentially a UNSC version of the Jackal’s shield. Because they are destructible like the Jackal’s shield, I was waiting for that too happen for a while now but I just now remembered that I had had that idea before…

The two can’t even really be compared. Armor lock was flat out game-breaking whereas the hardlight shield seems to be one of the weaker abilities.

I’m not worried about it at all and I’m very happy to see armor lock go.

I agree completely, I really believe Armor Lock to be the bane of every Halo fan’s existance, including myself. I disagree on the HLS being destructable. I think it is indestructable, but it makes up for it by having a quick usage time on it and a slower recharge time.

Yup. Same.

Every time I pop in Reach, which I rarely have ever done for almost a year now, is play SWAT. AL, even jetpack and the sluggish movement, really frustrate me and in SWAT, you don’t have to worry about it.

Although I’m not sure about 2 v. 2 or FFA, HLS seems to work well in any player count, while AL in BTB made the Ghost useless for splattering and AL was broken everywhere else.

The best part is that I can now splatter without fear

Yup, and SWAT is actually really good in Reach but there’s only three maps it’s really fun on in my opinion anyways. (Countdown, Reflection, and Sword Base) But I’m going to look forward to actually be able to have fun playing Team Slayer in Halo 4 unlike Reach.

Oh and by the way, Paper beats Rock is the most satisfying achievement to earn… ever! Besides maybe a Monument to all your Sins.

Haha yes, yes you can! But you might want to shoot me with your ghost. Otherwise I’ll jump over your splatter attempt, land near you, and sprint over and jack you! Then while your stunned and slow moving and can’t jump, I’ll splater you! Mwahahahaha! lol just kidding but yeah that’ll be a good thing!

HLS seems like it would be good in a firefight so you can catch your breath and maybe regain your shields.

I think the question many people are thinking right now is “Who isn’t glad that Hardlight Shield is replacing Armour Lock?”.

With Victorian accent* Indeed.

Haha, I know right? A little joke I had was that Bungie was going to release a patch for Reach and they’d sincerelly apologize saying,
“Sorry everyone! The game has been fixed in this latest patch. Armor Lock has been removed.”
Did you know when 343 announced there’d be no armor lock in Halo 4 it literally brought people to their feet in applause? I have to admit it brought me to my feet as well!Haha, Armor lock was a terrible mistake and some of Bungie knew this. In one Gameplay Commentary they had one developer said and I quote, “Armor Lock is for -Yoink-.” Yet they didn’t take it out before the game launched.

I agree with the maps except I hate Reflection SWAT

Really? I like Reflection SWAT most of the time. Sometimes depending on who your playing it’s frustrating but I ussually have fun on that map and do quite well.

My problem with it is I dislike how 90% of firefights happen at the sniper spawn. And the fact that people stay up there and have a view on the entire map and all. On Swordbase, the same happens but it is manageable. On Countdown, the center of fights tend to circulate.

But that’s just me.

I’m the same with you on SWAT. Hell, I even enjoy the ocasional SWAT on Zealot(Arena Zealot of course, I hate it when people space camp in default Zealot), and Boardwalk.

No offense, but I don’t think we need more explanations on why people are happy that AL is gone. I think just about everyone knows Armor lock’s faults.

> No offense, but I don’t think we need more explanations on why people are happy that AL is gone. I think just about everyone knows Armor lock’s faults.

The only ones who don’t are the ones who find it to have no faults and abuse it every day in Team Slayer because they are noobs that can’t use anything other than AL to help them get a kill.

Am I the only one who saw nothing that was worth raging about in relation to Armor Lock? I mean, sure, a power weapon -Yoink!- finally could be countered as easily as you could become an effective one.

All I’ve read is that people are stupid enough to stand near the guy in AL long enough for his EMP to activate or they were unfortunate enough to be killed by someone they were foolishly attempting to splatter. So you missed a shot. The jetpack could do a good amount of the same, in different respects.

Anyway, I welcome change and can’t wait to try HLS.

P.S. I see HLS as more of a Drop Shield augmentation.

Yeah I know, but surprinsingly some people defend it. And obviously some people like it because they use it, but yes most people know better than to support it because it’s just terrible…

Yeah I can see that. So that’s all understandable. Countdown is almost ALWAYS good. However sometimes in SWAT people are babies and just hide back at the lifts where the sword spawns and just hide in the darkness being pansies and they just go back when they die so that’s the only spot where action happens. And they hide where you have to go back there instead of getting a good angle. That’s annoying but yeah Countdown’s my favorite too. It’s GREAT!
