Spartan Ops is a new game mode like campaign focused on missions. But I don’t think it can replace Fireifight.
Firefight is a game mode where you kill wave after wave after wave of enemy forces. It IS NOT a campaign mission. People played Fireifight because they wanted to kick back and kill tons of covenant in 1 relatively small location.
They DID NOT want to play it objectively. Fireifight was a game of simply getting kills and that is why it was fun. If you didn’t feel like playing long campaign missions or doing tedious objectives, you could.
I think simply saying Spartan Ops can repalce FF is kind of silly. Because, Ops is just a small little campaign, not a free for all survival on a map with your friends.
Fireifight and camapign missions are not the same thing.
> you forgot the part where it was fun…for a week.
I think Spartan Ops will be a very cool game mode and I am excited for it but that is another thing, you can only replay a campaign mission so many times.
The reason people could play FF so much was because there was no need to walk or drive anywhere. You just stayed in one area and fought tons of bad guys. It was simple and fun.
I don’t think Spartan Ops is a substitute for FF. I would say it is a second campaign which I <3 but not Firefight.
People played ODST’s Firefight because it gave them the satisfaction of teamwork and survival…not for getting as many kills as possible.
And it’s expected that some Spartan Ops missions will basically play out like Firefight: fighting wave after wave of enemies to hold your ground or to protect something. Which really is just classic Firefight mixed with a storyline.
So in a way Spartan Ops is “just” the concept of Firefight taken to a new level…a very high new level.

But what control of enemies and time limit do I have? What if I want to fight all elites for 2 hours? What if I just want to play for survival and not to protect something?
Fireifight gave you those choices and you had the freedom to make the experience what you wanted.
Also what about VS Fireifight? Wouldn’t it be cool to have elites vs humans?
Spartan Ops isn’t a little campaign add-on. It has been compared to the size a scope of the actual campaign. And the missions will be rolling out for months, with new environments and objectives. Its a big story, and there is a lot that could have happened with the Infinity and its Spartan IVs from 2553 to 2557.
And there may be missions that will feel like Firefight. Defending something, holding out as long as possible, or other Firefight-type things.

except it’s not a substitute, it’s a replacement.
Reach firefight got stale for many reasons. how many times have you gotten stuck playing rocketfight over and over?
the game modes were just lame…especially when compared to ODST.
i liked firefight for what it was, but i’ll take an extra campaign with objectives and firefight-esque stuff going on that’s updated weekly for fresh new experiences any day of the week.

All we know about the actual missions is that there will be difficulty levels like the campaign. (Easy, Normal, Heroic, Legendary). We should wait until they reveal more about it, we don’t really know much yet.

Don’t get me wrong. I think Fireifight is awesome and I can’t wait to play it and expand my experience of Halo 4 but I don’t think it can replace Fireifight.
Like you said, it is essentially another campaign. Fireifight is not campaign missions, it was a custom versus mode where the player had control of enemies they wanted to fight and what weapons they wanted.
They are 2 very different things. They will still be missions and that is not what Fireifight players want.
Again I am not bagging on Spartan Ops mode I just think it can’t replace what Fireifight what about. hold out in an area till you die or the time is out with no objectives, etc. Where the player has control of weapon spawns and enemy spawns, etc.
You have some very important points but I am sure 343i will include a Special Ops mission similar to . If not, Reach is there for you. I can understand that simply going back to Reach is not a preferred option, as glorious as it is. A mission focused on surviving waves and waves of enemies would make a great final mission to Special Ops.
Well it has replaced it, sorry if you don’t like that but it’s a done deal now.
Personally, I played firefight a few times for fun, then only for the achieves you get for playing it. Or in Reach’s case the daily xp things. I’m glad to see something like this new system of free DLC coming our way as opposed to a stagnant defense game which does not make the best use of the tools in the system.
Honestly, why are people so unsatisfied when they don’t have much information about the game mode? It has a lot of different missions and the only similarity with the campaign mentioned is that the difficulty levels are the same. Let’s please just wait until the game comes out and the mode is first played before criticism is shown.

Well you are right about this, they are not the same thing. FF is pointless, thats why so few played it. With goals and a revieling storyline, the hope is to have a larger following.
firefight was booooring, people only played it for cR or to finish challenges. They could try and bring back the ODST firefight but it wouldn’t work in matchmaking because people are jerks. I’m not saying that spartan ops will work in matchmaking or if it will have matchmaking but I will give it a try because firefight didn’t work anymore.

Ugh, that’s not Halo Reach Firefight, that’s just Rocketfight… It’s really annoying me that everybody calls Halo Reach’s Firefight JUST Arcadefight or Rocketfight. There is also classic and limited, go to your Firefight gametypes, they’re right there… You can customise Halo Reach’s Firefight however you want.
On-Topic:
I love the idea of Spartan Ops, it’s like waiting for a new episode of your favorite TV series. The most important part about Halo for me is the story, so I love that it’s like a seperate campaign. More story, awesome missions and cutscenes every week!
And there could also be defending mission’s, exactly like Firefight, so it’s a major improvement on Firefight and definitely can replace it.
