The reasoning why I think Cortana will return in Halo 5. In Reach, Dr Halsey gave Noble 6 one Half of a fragment of Cortana to take with him whilst she kept the other half with her to extract data forerunner data from Sword Base. Between the events of Hasley leaving reach and Halo 4 very little is known about what Halsey did with the other fragment and if she was working on any way of extending Cortanas life span along with other A.I. Also Cortana and the other fragment were made from living tissue so they were “unique” in a way that Halsey would most likely have done research into them.
WIth that being said, I suspect fragments of Cortana might still have been present in Chief’s suit during the destruction of the Didact’s ship or present in the Didact himself or his ship. However with that being said there is no actual proof of this and it is all speculation. Could Chief be hunting for Halsey in order to restore Cortana and that was why in the E3 reveal he was holding onto her storage device. Because don’t forget at the end of Spartan Ops Halsey gets one half of the key from the librarian whilst the other half goes to UNSC. Whilst she is somewhat of a prisoner of Jul’Mdama she is also working to expand her knowledge of the Forrunners. So maybe she has somehow managed to decrypt her half of the key and CHief is “hunting” her down.
My best guess is Halsey restoring Cortana with the other half of cortana that she left Reach with.

I completely agree. Bringing her back will make her death pointless and would destroy the Master Chief’s, “searching for his humanity,” character arc.
When Cortana was given to the Pillar of Autumn, Halsey kept a fragment to work on the artifact below Reach. What Noble Team picked up and transported to the Autumn was that fragment. Halsey didn’t keep anything.
Cortana should stay “dead”. She can return as a memory, hallucinations (as long as they’re not Halo 3 Cortana Moments), an everlasting impact on the story. But not return as in revived, “fixed”.

In order for Chief to locate Halsey he would need to steal the other Half of the Janus Key from ONI and use it to track down Halsey in order to bring Cortana back. That is why Locke is hunting him, because he thinks Chief has gone AWOL and is working with the Covenant to destroy Humanity.

But between the time it was reconnected and her having it, is there a possibility that she did other research into extending the life of it. Could she have created a replica from the 2nd half of the fragment? No one really knows what research she did between that time.

Part of Cortana was already on the Autumn. This has to be true to line up with the Fall of Reach.
What Noble Six picked up was the fragment Halsey kept to study the artifact. She gave that fragment to Six.

Hes stating theres a possibility the lesser part of cortana was split before she was reconnected on POA. I think op is wrong. Just imo.

If if there is a way to bring her back without cheapening the story, I’m all for it. I just don’t know how.
