I’m going to do something stupid and try to defend Halo 5. However, even before I type the rest of this post, I have failed. No matter what words I say, no matter what argument I construct, no matter what crappy inspirational speech knockoff I put here, I have ultimately failed. The consumer masses have spoken, and the grave has been dug. In a world where even quality productions are forgotten within a week, yet another game has met its rapid demise amidst a carnivorous “fanbase.”
Yet, for those whose focus is to have fun and enjoy things even when they suck this post is for you. I’m here to be a voice to those who sadly don’t type enough words on forums such as this. I’m here to represent the people who aren’t on a forum shouting to the creators to fix everything but are enjoying themselves as they play Halo 5. I may be the last person on this planet, but I look forward to rounding up my friends and goofing off in absurdly off-balanced custom games or running amok in Warzone.
Now, this doesn’t mean we don’t acknowledge flaws. We see them. We just choose to look past them because we’re too busy disintegrating our friends with 300% damage Incineration Cannons. Sure, we hate X Y and Z maps because they’re poorly constructed. Yet, we laugh our heads off when we finally assassinate that corner camper with the shotgun. We love the rush of crushing someone beneath a long-shot ground pound. I know I personally couldn’t be happier when I saw the SPNKr return. But hey, I just might be the only one.
The point is, personally (and I’m pretty sure there are others out there like me…right?), I just don’t give a flying banshee if Overgrowth sucks or if Forge is different or if “343 sucks.” I play Halo to have fun. The reason I pop in that disk and turn up the music for the main menu is because I love the experience of playing a video game with friends (and enemies). You don’t have to join me–that’s not my aim with this post. If you don’t like it, you don’t like it, and I can’t change that. However, for my money, it doesn’t matter if Halo 5 isn’t in the top 10 or if the maps are poorly constructed or if Forge is frustrating. At the end of the day, as my head hits the pillow, I look back at all the laughs I had. That’s why I play Halo. But hey, I might be the only one.
I agree. People here like to criticize Halo like it’s their job, all while forgetting the one reason why we all started playing it in the first place: to have fun.
First, you’re one of the few people to say that they like the game without being a total -Yoink- about it. That’s rare, the forums wouldn’t suck so much if they had more people like yourself.
Second, unfortunately nothing you just said really matters to me. I’m not gonna (and doubt I even can) force myself to enjoy a bad game when there’s better games out there.
I get what you’re saying, and I am glad you are having a great time with the game. However, I think you misjudge where this “hate” comes from. I and many others are not criticizing this game just for the sake of being negative, we are criticizing it because we love Halo and we want it to be all it can be. Sure, we could all look past the flaws and just have fun, but what happens to Halo 6 then? All the flaws that were in this game will just be recreated in the next, and most likely a whole host of new problems. We need to stop the decline of this franchise, and that starts here.
Listen, I totally understand where you are coming from. I have had a lot of fun with Halo 5. But for every piece of fun I’ve had I’ve also seen massive missed opportunities, and I can’t just ignore that.
I love all the Halo games. I haven’t played every game mode of Halo 5 yet, and I’ve had my ups and downs. But I don’t have anything negative to say. I respect all opinions and try to learn something from everybody. I love playing Halo.
Halo is awesome, there is so much you can do. This reminds me of a video, a certain Halo montage. It’s not exactly relevant to this thread but it shows you all the extremely unique things you can do in Halo. Hyena : The Final Halo 3 Montage : "Mastery" - YouTube look at all of the very imaginative things that he does, you would never see an eighth of those in a CoD montage. That video is exactly why I play Halo, it tries its’ best not to limit you.
I been enjoying my time with it. This is the most time I spent with a Halo game since Halo 3.
I have my fair share of frustrating moments, but thats ok. The good times out weigh the bad. And i play alone most of the time. the couple times I did have a team for most of the night was a blast.
There are some things I would like to change, and fortunately those items dont bug me enough to stop playing like Reach and H4.

Amazing montage. Really shows what Halo WAS, and what Halo 5 should’ve been.
End of the day the reason people are complaining is because they don’t enjoy it. And you don’t force yourself to enjoy a game. So there are two options left for such individual. Either voice their opinion on the forums in the hope of 343i seeing it or just quit the game.
Both are happening. People are making complaints because they don’t enjoy it. And I agree with the arguments they give. But since 343i doesn’t listen and having the 343i apologists attack them as if they are a mortal enemy to mankind doesn’t really gice people a reason to stay.
Some saw this coming and didn’t buy the game, like me. Some bought the game but left shortly after for the reasons stated above. They did not leave for another game necessarily. Many of them are just with a void right now because there is no Halo game that doesn’t play like Bungie’s Halo other than Bungie’s Halo themselves, aka 75% of MCC. But we know how that ended up and now has a lower population than Halo 5(which is around 30k btw judging from starwars battlefront stats), which again is divided over 4 games.
I for example don’t have an Xbox One, I bought both the original Xbox and the Xbox 360 just for Halo. Both are hitting the dust now because one doesn’t have XBL support anymore and Halo 3 on the other one doesn’t have a sustainable population anymore. So I literally have nothing to play. I’ve played some Halo CE on PC but it’s all snipers on bloodgulch nowadays so… yeah.
