Why I might play COD soon instead of HALO

Ok, first of all a little disclaimer. This won’t be a post claiming that COD is better then HALO. Honestly, I played Reach before and was a little disappointed. HALO 4 however got me hooked. Nice campaign, fun multiplayer but nevertheless I will probably jump the bandwagon sooner or later, not because the game is bad, but because there is simply not enough interesting stuff in it.

To understand why I will move on, just look how COD, Battlefield and HALO entice players to keep coming back:

Unlockable Weapons

COD requires you to reach a certain level to earn access to weapons. Both COD and Battlefield require you to unlock for each weapon seperately the necessary attachments. Both games offer a ton of weapons, each challenging to master. So if you are bored with the AK-74, just try out the M-16.

What does Halo offer: 6 unlockable weapons without attachments.

Unlockable Skills

COD allows you to unlock perks, which you can use to fit your playstyle. Battlefield offers similar but fewer rewards, that allow you to carry more ammo, sprint faster etc. In battlefield these perks are not much as a gamechanger but they do help you and your team.

HALO offers similar perks (Promethean Vision, rockets etc) however most of these perks are more valuable then others, which causes players to ignore the lesses perks.

Unlockable skins

Some COD iterations played with the concept of skins (Black Ops), battlefield steered away from it. Only HALO offers you the option to fully customize your spartan armor. But what’s the benefit? Nothing.

Your armor does not affect anything in gameplay. It does not offer you any better camouflage or any better aim. And as I can only equip one armor at the time, why would I bother to unlock the other armors?

So that’s the reason why i will soon ditch HALO 4… i am over level 20 now, most weapons are unlocked, I have the perks i need. Fancy armor… no thanks.

In effect, the majority of challenges in this game are already behind me, so other games with more challenges await me.

PS what 343I might do lure me back anyhow …
Not wanting to end on a sour note, within HALO 4 there is potential to keep players coming back, which COD and Battlefield don’t have. It’s called Forge.

I have been disappointed a bit with the multi-player maps. Unlike COD or battlefield there is not a single map that really stands out. Perhaps because HALO is more pure shooter then COD/battlefield, but nevertheless the few maps grow old very quickly.

With Forge, 343i can tap into a huge potential of wannabe level designers. If they can make it possible to easily spread maps (perhaps by creating a special playlist for community maps), they could ensure that people keep returning because of the new challenges each map offers.

“6 weapons with no attachments”
it doesn’t surprise me that you play cod

“however most of these perks are more valuable then others, which causes players to ignore the lesses perks.”

You realize this is the same in CoD? Especially with the attachments you seem to like. Almost all of them are gimmicks that don’t do anything substantial outside of existing and being another thing to unlock. It gives you the illusion of there being a lot of stuff when there really isn’t. A lot of your complaints actually work both ways so I’m confused by your giant wall of text

And this is what I meant when I said Halo 4 isn’t going to keep a hold of the COD fanbase.

hopefully BO2 will suck all of the COD boys out of H4

Hopefully I will be playing both because, contrary to unpopular belief, they are 2 completely different games.

I say “hopefully” because it remains to be seen how good BO2 is. If it continues on the path of BO1,a first person shooter actually dominated by first person shooting instead of endless killstreak rewards, then it should be fine.

If it’s like Modern Warfails 2 and 3, it will be returned.

As for Halo 4, it’s a top shelf product and will be played accordingly.

^this please.

Halo is a different animal. If you really are a Halo fan you don’t need attachments, perks, armor abilities or any of that jazz. What we really want to keep us playing is a real rank system. I’m sure I could speak for a lot of people when I way that I spent hours on end trying to get to level 50. It makes the game extremely competitive and makes you want to come back and play more and more. Unfortunately this game lacks that aspect and after you play the same 4 maps over and over, there isn’t much to play for after that.

Don’t speak on behalf of the whole Halo community, because not every single one of us plays for a real rank system. I couldn’t care less about rank to be honest. I play Halo because I grew up with it, and I find it much more interesting and fun to play than COD, Battlefield and the like. Just because you and a few thousand other people play for a rank system doesn’t mean that me and anther thousand people don’t play for another aspect of Halo.
