Here’s is a treat for some of you browsing the forums and are tired of seeing the same old "What I hate about Halo 5" or "What’s wrong with Halo 5." I very much enjoy what 343i created in November 2015. I’ve been playing Halo since the release of Halo 2 and basically grew up with it. I bonded with my father through it. Heck, I read all the books and had a Halo belt. My name is even John. Sentimentalism aside, here’s what I like about the fifth installment of the saga. It’s something New. They introduced Spartan Locke. They changed the aiming mechanics (almost zero aim assist, making multiplayer require more skilled tactics). The added cool Spartan abilities (ground pound, Spartan bash). The Req System was ingenious. The randomness felt very rewarding and constantly gave me a sense of instant gratification. Something that people almost require nowadays. It’s the only game I actually take want to invest my money in. I won’t even begin with the free map packs and weapon add ins. 343i actually listens to what we want and that’s more than most companies can say. I hated Halo 4, but I firmly believe that Halo 5: Guardians hit a Home run.
Sorry I lost you at “the req system was ingenious”. Joking aside Im glad you can find enjoyment in something I can not.

It’s funny. I agree with your thesis 100%, but inspite of most of the things you listed rather than because of them. I hate the lack of aim assist. The req system is fine, but as a mechanism for dispensing power weapons and vehicles it’s completely useless to me since I don’t use power weapons or vehicles. Spartan Locke? Sure. Fine. He’s fine. The story was fine with him. A different story without him would have been fine too.
I guess the difference between me and so many other people is that when I look at this game I can see a lot of things I don’t like, and have done since the original Halo, but I still manage to see a whole that completely enthralls me. For me Halo is very much more than the sum of its parts.

Me too. and I only recently just picked up the game again after a few months!
WTF did you just say about the REQ system??? This type of random reward stuff is whats ruining the game industry as of recently.

In all reality it is a pretty good game in my opinion. It will never quite be Halo 3, or Halo: Reach. But, when looking at Halo 4, they’ve improved greatly. I trust them to continue on with Halo now. They have a lot of new(ish) ideas that continues to make Halo different from other mainstream games. And, mega kudos to them for adding nostalgia with Mk V, H2 BR, and HCE Magnum. Can’t wait to see what comes in Memoirs of Reach!
