This is just a random topic but i just had this long conversation with someone about why i like Halo over star wars.
"I told him i like Halo because it didn’t feel like just another sci-fi series too me. As a spartan i felt like a mythological hero a legend, a warrior. In the games i liked NPC’s walking up to me and being in awe of me “oh it’s a spartan” “i thought they were all dead” etc. Like i love that acknowledgement it made me feel like i was in the world and it didn’t matter what i went up against and it got to a point that i realized something about spartans while growing up. 343i pointed this out in Halo 5’s trailer about the game, and they mentioned how blue team and masterchief realize how important they are too humanity , and that they accept that they may die someday while in combat, and they still fight on despite knowing this. Like it showed me how corrupted indoctrination can be but at the same time made really appreciate these fictional heroes. True warriors is all i can say. " That’s what i told him
One thing Bungie i think did a decent job with was making masterchief out to be the last spartan, because going into halo 4 it made the Halo universe feel like it entered a new age. It made masterchief reach mythological status amongst Humanity. But it also made me think of Prometheus giving fire to a humanity except in halo to the new era of spartan, and i thought that was cool in a way. Because then they could be that much closer to the hero they all looked up to. The sweetest part about that was with halo 4s ending and masterchief just walking past all of them and everyone is just awe of him…like he’s the real deal , he is every bit the legend they’ve heard about. Like that gave me chills to see how they revere him.
Halo somehow balanced Hard core militaristic scifi, alien, mythological , ancient genre very well. I just wish Halo 5 could’ve done a better job to really showcase it. Cause seeing how much care they put into spartans and how their showcased in the universe as tireless war machines with a few being re-veered as unstoppable mythological heroes. Makes me hope they could do the other races in Halo justice, just as well, (sanghelios and space samurai sanghelii). Sorry if i’m rambling though i just really appreciate this universe a great deal and seeing it grow is one of the most awesome things ever.
