Why I hate (or rather despise) BR starts in H5

Now, this is extremely subjective. Competitive gamers with 3 competitive friends to go around pub-stomping/having competitive BR matches will love BRs, and that’s fine, as long as you’re having fun with something. But I hate BR starts, and if anything, 343 should not force BR starts unto our faces. Now, you may need some background information here (which some people might as well just ignore). I live in Korea, I’m a student in Korea. (Yes, I shouldn’t be playing M-rated games. But, well, internet, soo…) This means social pressure for being good at studying is…well, high. So I don’t have much time to spend playing Halo. However, I do think I am…well, not bad at Halo (Hence me saying I carry the team, which somehow happens.) I also have no friends who play Halo, and I’ve never dared to use my headphones online after me getting called a squeaker (I have a high-pitched voice).

TL;DR: I have not much time, and therefore am and maybe proud of being a “casual”. Now that you know my life story, here is why I hate BR starts.

1) If your team sucks, they drag you down.

I know BR start games are supposed to have an emphasis on teamwork. But I’m a damn student and so are my friends. The result is that I have no friends that can play Halo with me. If I go into matchmaking and have to play with bad teammates against competent players, I do want to be able to carry my team (yes I am a bit tryhard-ish.), and in AR starts that works relatively well compared to BR starts, if you can lock down weapons you can control power positions better and your team will act more competent. But in BR starts? In BR starts, you have to have teammates that can properly engage mid-range targets with their team. This works well when teams are evenly balanced. But when I get bad teammates and competent enemies, my stupid teammates will get mowed down by good enemies that move around together, covering each other and team-shotting teammates. See, it’s kinda hard to carry my team when I can be shot from the other side of the map while my team is all respawning when I’m done respawning. It’s not a matter of individual skill, it’s a matter of people having to play with unskilled teammates. And that makes my individual stats plunge into oblivion (which is inevitable when your team is getting spawnkilled). It’s BS.

2) If you have a bad connection, goodbye and have a nice death.

AR starts do still take blows from lag. However, BRs, being precision weapons, makes you perform even worse with lag. Adding to that, in a 1v1 BR fight, when you’re trying to outstrafe a person and that person lags and teleports 3 feet to the side, you lose. No exceptions (unless that guy can’t aim if his life depended on it). I think it’s quite obvious what the rest of my point is.

This is not a reason to make AR starts in the game

This is a reason to
A: gain online friends to play with
B: improve networking of the game itself

It is, however, a reason to not force BR starts onto us. I haven’t played Halo 5 since Week 2 started. Guess why.

I agree, the hitboxes are too large in Halo and AR starts encourage map exploration and force players to find other wrapons like the BR and the Power Weapons on a map but since not much else has a lower killing time than the BR from any distance overall, no one will actually seek out Power Weapons or move around the map, with most players bunching together and camping.

Tottaly agree…and 343 should engcourage AR starts more.because we had the best map control with my team…who will get the weapons and where the weapons are…now the only thing i search for is the lightrifle and the heavy weapon
