Halo Infinites core gameplay and sandbox are better than Reach, 4 or 5. It’s the content that’s lacking and the bugs ruining the experience.
The rest is solid as is.

Halos defining trait is low skill access, thata literally what made it a success and work on consoles.
The low floor of halo is ubiquitous through the franchise.
Thats not an insult or observation, its a fact.
Its a positive trait.
The point i was trying to get accross was H5G took existing possibilities in older titles and made them more accessible.
The only real addition was stabalise and all that does is make a skill as old as fps easier, air control and air scopes, its not exactly new in features just a new coat of paint on them.
The game has as much depth as previous games.
People are still discovering new things in titles from the 90s. What 5 opted to do was take traits and conpartmentalise them where before they were just inherent traits that a player could leverage to outskill a player.
I never said it was shallow i just mean to say that it has no additional depth.
But it did have drawbacks.
Ads focus and weapons down by their nature dont add anything they just recontextualise them.
If you have a preference fpr mobility shooters thats fine. More power to ya.
But they dont actually give you added mobility they just make said mobility a seperate part of the base combat puzzle and puts them into their own catagplory.
Im sure plenty of videos or threada go into that in far greater ddtail than i am willing to do here if you are unsure what I mean.
Im not sure what you mean in this paragraph. So ill try respond best i can.
Any map in any game is built for the traits of the player characters. Theres nothing wrong with designing ariund the gameplay.
The issue with 5 is it designed maps focused on niche tactics by pros using abilities that are effectively just contrived repackaging of existing techs. All those jumps ciuld be in infinite they would just require less button presses and probably a higher skill cieling to reach than the ones in 5. Crazy player movement existing in the high end of most classic shooters and many new. The difference is the core of map design is focused on lower skill play and these sorts of high skill paths are not the teams focus.
By making that the aim they changed the games feel for casual play, but gained nothing for the proplayers. Those paths and jumps exist as your community improves and figures out new oddities in the locomotion engine and the quirks of geometry.
Id argue that making an equipment a limited ise item increases the cost of a mistake. And in reality an arena shooter capitalises on postion in the moment more than most games. So being punished by missing a jump os as big a punishment there is.
But the save me from falling anation that locks you into a direction only undercuts that, makes success less rewarding and invariably dumbs down the game by removing options.
You het the option to not fall but lose many paths of movement or recovery and makes that choice of doing the telricky jump waaaay less of a risk. So personally thats just a boring design choice for me.
What exactly could you do? What are these empowermwnt moments you speak of? How werent they possible before?
Or are they just made more identifiable or accessible?
Genuine question not being rhetorical. I cant think of any tbh.
Not sure how locking you into animation, taking away the option to shoot and trivialising positioning and map progression adds to expression.
Cant say i agree, i think player expression is far greater in infinite be that in movent or in how they choose to use pick ups.
The grapple and repulsor get used on so many ways and those choices are important as the wrong one means you lose the toy.
Its all good my friend, we are all spartans, this is a battlefield haha.
I liked halo 5 mp a great deal. Got onxy in one account and it was no easy feat considering how slow my reactions are now.
Can i suggest you look up some pro players playing Quake 3 and see how much expression you can get out of the most basic set of mechanics (ive been watching and playing quake 3 since i was 6 and still im learning.)?
Its truely astounding and to this day new techniques are found.
As is true for halo 2 the difference in pace between pro and casual is just nuts.
Its a matter of taste. I like to have no unnecessary inputs and just see mechanics interact in meaningful ways. I also like flowing shooter as opposed to jittery shooters so my preference leans to infinites side.
Btw im starting to think this is the most important momentum physics has been in a halo since, well, when bungie was macking marathon.
The meta is gonna get so much quicker thats for sure. The slope hops alone chamge thebpace between casual and pro players in a major way.
Hope that was clearer and less typos than before my phone is roughed up pretty bad.
Dont apologise for loving a game pal, ever. But dont be too quick to go on the deffensive.
I get you man. Tbh, I’ve never liked shooters before playing halo. I was a huge fan of fighting games like street fighter and mortal kombat. I played halo with some friends and gradually grew to love it. Hardly any other shooters that i tried. I’ll have to check your suggestions out. I didn’t play 5 because i seen it as a mobility shooter. I played the beta and just immediately really liked it. Like I couldn’t put the controller down. I grew to like it more over the years and like any other dang fps game it’s a hate love relationship. Lol they’re quite frustrating at times haha
For h5 and the types of plays it adds, it would be hard to really compile a list of stuff without just going overkill with examples. If you’ve reached onyx and watched a lot of the players who were renowned for movement and outplays then you more than likley have seen and done most of it yourself. You can outplay in any title though of course, but I just felt that in 5 you had more tools/options at your disposal. Perhaps it’s more that you have possibilities of coming out alive when the odds are very stacked against you, where in any other titles you’d basically be a fish in a barrel. (Which in and of itself becomes this debatable argument of…being in a bad spot should punish the player rather than having tools to increase survivability and turn the tides. Which I do understand)
I think all halos had their own oddities in the sandbox to create some cool jumps. The first one I recall people grenading themselves up often lol. Then there were these weird like super bounce jumps on certain parts of the maps in others. In infinite, the snap slide has just been found. Very neat tech, but…also very so not practical to use lol I just wonder if it will be patched since the slide kind of changed. I uninstalled infinite a few months ago and just started playing again so i missed the update stuff and barely found some of the sfuff out.
And yes you’re right. Halo is this game that’s renowned for, and described as “easy to pick up, hard to master”. To which your point is very valid.
You should look into videos that puck apart the mechanivs of halo 5 and the prior games for sure.
I just think youll see some super interesting things.
I think halo 5 was the best mobility shooter because of the arena desoite it not being nearly as smooth as titanfall and titanfall 2.
Ive been massive i to games as lo g as i can remember. Poor familly so i was growing up on tech 2 gens back, cut my teeth in asswemvly modding 9ld games and have always been obsessedwith how things work.
Cant say i have a preferred genre but i can say this.
Movement is the single most nuanced and deceptive feature in gaming.
People can push it so far.
And we saw a trend of design of takong crazy movement in old fps and placing it in a post cod4 framewprk with more immediate gratification but post eternal and 2016 theres a growing return to classic fps design where the mechanics a deceptively simple but are mind bogglingly conplex once you understand how they interact.
I think youd get a kick out of it if you enjoyed the combos of halo 5. Might not be for your taste. But im a big advocate for that sort of design. Any game thats lwts me do more with less is infinitly interesting to me haha.
Ya hce had rocket jumps, h2 combos and super bounce, 3 had physics shifts and momentum retention.
Oh dude. Those slides are way more uswful than you think haha. They game changers.
The microtansactions is killing the experience of the game for me, you either buy the BP the to get a sense of 100% or Buy credits for non-game changing armor. So yeah its starting to get boring FAST with no ingame credits to grind for the armor you want.
This stuff is irrelevant when it comes to gameplay. idk why you guys think any of that matters.
Probably becaise for many people the narrative does matter.
It may not to you.
But CE and 2 still hold up so well in part due to great storytelling for the medium.
Yeah i don treally like the Micro Transactions either nor really the season stuff. When all games do it now. The fact they took really nice elements out of the game just like the simple being able to color your armor the way you wanted. Now you have to get a paint pallet for you armor takes away from making your spartan your own. An Yes not being able to get anything special really from the story for you character kind of is sad too… There lots of little things that bother me some.
Game play does feel decent or fine, just fact many iconic weapons is missing from the game right now kinda hurts my head also like my 2 favorite guns is gone Beam Rifle and Carbine. The sound the power of them. Loved it.
And some of the beautiful vehicles too threw out all the halos in the past. Even the Wraith feels kind of not the same nor the Rocket Hog just doesn’t feel exciting really to me… Feels like the sound and visual and the explosion feel way way less epic.
Like the year that Halo is based in you would expect epic weapons and vehicles.
Idk I love halo very much ill still be playing it but more excited for Forge. Just hope we get more weapons and vehicles that isn’t in the game right now.
I haven’t bought anything from the store since then. 343 is promoting fomo in this game that I’m starting to hate it. The drop pods are nothing but a small technical update, not real game changer.
