Why I am going to LOVE Spartan Ops

I absolutely love the idea of Spartan Ops. I like it because it is more than just missions. I love it because it is going to tell a story.

Since the beginning of Online-Multiplayer, players have feared playing the Multiplayer aspect of some games in fear of teammates and opponents alike spoiling the story. it’s inevitable. Players are going to have their opinions on the story, especially stories as involved and deep as Halo. With a new trilogy, you can rest assured that by the end of the game, we are going to be left with many questions, questions that will be discussed online, whether YOU have beaten the campaign or not.

However, I have always felt that games were missing a very intricate component that could sweep across the multiplayer community. That idea is keeping players on the same page as far as story goes. If you haven’t completed campaign, it is going to be hard to find someone online who is at the same point as you, and even harder to maintain the same progress for discussions to begin.

Now, with Spartan Ops, players can discuss the story, and what everyone thinks will happen. Since everyone is on the same week in the story, we can fully discuss the story week by week rather than just what we thought of the ending.

How do you guys feel?

The problem is that hackers might spoil the entire “season”.

Spartan Ops sounds amazing to me. I like the idea of a sub-plot which goes on during the events of the main Campaign. Plus if they wanted to they could release more missions leading up to the events of Halo 5.

If its DLC that shouldn’t be a problem… though i’m not sure if it will be DLC or not

I really hope that the missions and movies come as DLC. Or perhaps the CGI movies will be released on Waypoint, away from the game disk to prevent any chance of hackers ruining the season. Game developers need to understand that anything that can be made can be un-made no matter how secure you design it. The only way to keep it secure is keep it entirely out of the hands of others.

I was really hoping for this as well. I would love some side-story a year from release to help prepare for Halo 5 the way that “The Arrival” DLC for Mass Effect 2 did for Mass Effect 3.

Actually that would introduce a new problem. With DLC the people who don’t have Xbox Live wont be able to play it

Well, GameInformer did say it was “part of the package” when we buy the game, and it’s not “paid” dlc, so I would guess it’s on the disk.

Or like L4D, free DLC.

The idea reminds me a lot of the Halo Wars Campaign. Spartans on a UNSC ship going from place to place, putting pieces of a puzzle together and completing missions. I also love the idea of releasing each mission/group of missions once a week and having seasons that tie into each other. Its like the worlds first interactive TV series. Also I don’t mind the ‘spoil’ aspect, if you don’t want to be spoiled then don’t go looking to be.

I also love the idea of Spartan Ops and agree with you on most things. I just dislike what they are calling it is all.

True, but players can still connect to Xbox LIVE Silver and download updates, and perhaps this free DLC.

I just do not understand the idea of having an offline timer to release each part of the story 1 week after the other? That would be a little annoying for offline-gamers. I’d assume that Spartan Ops is going to be an online-required option.

I’m worried Spartan Ops has the potential to lag like in Firefight or online Campaign…

well ANYthing is better than Reach’s firefight so it should be an upgrade.

Depends on what you mean by DLC.

If “Disk locked content” press 1… I mean, yes Hackers may ruin it.

If “Downloadable content” (or forced updates) then you are right.

Now that it’s been brought up I think it should be a weekly update.

Well, I believe that I heard that they are basing the net code off of the multiplayer model, so I think that we may be ok. I agree, it would definitely be a bummer if there was Lag, but I think that they will fix it up right.

Not if it’s entirely stored online.

While it’s not necessarily DLC, you will probably still need Xbox Live gold just to play it, and since it’s been confirmed that the 5 missions per week are all new content, my best guess is that they store the 5 weekly missions on the 343i servers, and our xboxes just load them temporarily from there AS you play them.

No update required.

As per lag, to be honest, lag has never really bothered me much in Campaign, aside from the odd time in Halo 3 where it’s so laggy the whole game just freezes over and over again. But that doesn’t even happen anymore in ODST or any game following.
