Why have rotating playlists?

I don’t understand the purpose of the rotating playlists. I’m going to highly doubt that the servers cannot handle having all of the playlists going at the same time. I fail to see how keeping players from being in certain playlists keeps the game “fresh” though.

I don’t see why you would want to hold out on posting “new” playlists. It’s not like you’re building any suspense; the only thing you’re building is animosity. For example, if you know players really want to double team, grifball, or classic playlists, why state that they are “coming soon” instead of just posting them? Making people wait for maps, okay, but for gametypes that would literally take a moment to program into the game? I fail to understand.

On the other side of the rotation, if the sole reason for removing a playlist is low player count, then that is just asinine. As long as the gametype has sufficient players to field a game, then I don’t see why you would want to remove it. The masses enjoy BTB and tons enjoy slayer. Okay. Why, though, would you want to alienate the few who play and enjoy the lesser-used gametypes and rotate them out? Most people (on the grand scale) do not play customs, but for those who do, you wouldn’t (and didn’t) remove custom games. It would have ruined the experience for those who use it religiously. Sure, they could play the regular games, but it wouldn’t be the same for them. The same goes for those who enjoy the lesser-played gametypes.

I fail to see the motive. Maybe I’m just confused.

halo 4 has a low pop and they dont want to spread it thin, it’s a dumb reason.

I just heard “technical limitations” in another thread, which is total bull. Reach never had this rotational -Yoink-, it actually had really good and varied playlists.

This pisses me off because when the good stuff finally comes, only a certain minority will play it, and it’ll leave…

Yeah, I’ve been wondering the same thing and am likewise confused by it. I really hope it’s not because of the servers . . . that’d be sad. If it’s because of the population count, then that’s even sadder.

I’d love to see team doubles come back. I understand the maps are on the big side for it, but people would play it anyways. Also, 343 needs to start cranking out forge maps that could support it.

I see nothing wrong with letting us try something new every week instead of introducing permanent playlists no one plays. Heck, I like getting new playlists. If they are good they will stay. This community is so childish sometimes.

They are still in an experimental kind of stage, seeing what works in the gametypes.

yeah it’s totally fine but playlist that have been a stable in the franchise shouldn’t be put in rotation, they should be permanent.

If it’s for population reasons, then there are two bigger problems at play here.

  1. The game isn’t very good if it cannot hold a sufficient population after being out for only a couple of months.
  2. If your population is suffering overall, why remove what some players actually do enjoy? What I mean is that if you have 500 people playing a game and 490 of them like most of what’s available but 10 of them like just one or two things, why take away what those 10 like? You will not find you have forced those 10 to conform to the rest of the group but instead that 8 will conform and 2 will just leave since you took away what made the game enjoyable. On a big scale, you’re now only 498 instead of 500, so it’s no a huge loss, but when you’re having population issues to begin with, every loss hurts. Furthermore, keep doing this over time and you’ll find those small losses really add up.

I see nothing wrong with rotating the new playlists that no one has played before (e.g., I’m interested to see what Extraction plays like), but why cut out franchise staples?

What I am more interested in is why have rotating playlists if they aren’t goin to be rotated.

“OH THIS WUZ SO POPLAR WUR GONE KEP IT FOUR ANUDDER WEEK”

They should be traded out, no exception, regardless of popularity.

HAHA! Custom gmaes is useless now they basically killed it and got rid of the gamemodes so the custom people will be forced to move to multiplayer matchmaking.

Seriously the game has a very low population so they are doing that thats what they get for copying COD. BTW see this. 343I have realised about why they should have gone back to classic halo style and they might in halo 5.
