I get they want to keep it secret for a big reveal…
However after 5 years of “working” on it you would think they would take advantage of the fact that the game comes out this year and be releasing more and more teasers or images to keep the hype up.
ATM there is nothing about this game being circulated… as a long time halo fan i am disappointing…
With everything going on i feel like the next month is the perfect time to release information… hell even a playable private alpha for streamers to test.
Since E3 was cancelled and now Xbox will be having it’s own streamed version of E3, I’m sure we’ll see something soon. My guess is that 343 was waiting till the Series X was more revealed in terms of specs that way they can finally showcase game play running on it instead of an Xbox One or PC. Xbox really wants to show the true power of the Series X so what better way to do it than with the game that defined it? So now that we have the full spec sheet of Series X we should be seeing Infinite game play and more soon! Just gotta be patient.
We’re honestly not sure why there has been such a dearth of information on Infinite. One theory is that 343i REALLY doesn’t want a repeat of the marketing blunder that occurred before Halo 5 that angered so much of the fan base.
The game was revealed almost 2 years ago and we effectively have one trailer that told us next to nothing apart from “there’s a new pilot character”. Granted it was a great trailer with more character development of the pilot than Locke during the entirety of Halo 5.
343i has stated multiple times that they want the community to play a larger part in Infinite’ development so…
There could be quite a few vetted community members playing the game now who are simply under strict NDAs. This would technically satisfy the aforementioned “community involvement” but we simply don’t know.
At this point, don’t expect anything until June (when E3 was scheduled to occur) as it’ll spare you disappointment.

I don’t think people are talking specs to the degree where that is an effective strategy. There’s been one forum post with 3 replies. People don’t care about the specs, they want to know about the game, and the lack of information is a bother. Several websites were hyping that Infinite matchmaking will be talked about at GDC, and the talk came and went without a word. The forums are filled with talks of Doomguy in Infinite and gripes about movement mechanics, because there is no content. This isn’t a hype train, this is a hype glacier.

Different… but overlapping segments of the market.
Heaps of media / forum focus on the specs. And in a day or so Sony will hit back… and for a while all the focus will be on them.
And then Microsoft will hit back with the next stage… games. Including Halo infinite.
And with the global pandemic warming up… I’m actually surprised the various companies are putting anything of significance out there.
Maybe they just want to save the hype closer to release sovthat it will more likely have positive effect on sales instead of having opposite effect of releasing too much hype-fuel too early which creates thought of product being “old news” already.

I’d very much like to learn something new about Infinite as well, but claiming that “people don’t care about the specs” is objectively false.
The Austin Evans and Digital Foundry videos went up just two days ago and already have close to 5 MILLION views.
This forum is an extremely small segment of the gaming community.

I agree. I’d say 343 got a nasty shock from the backlash to Halo 5’s misleading advertising. If I were in charge, I’d want to make sure the company got everything right this time, down to the tiniest detail.

That’s a lot of views. I should’ve been more specific in my wording, what I meant is people on this site so not seem to care. It is a small community, but one can argue that it’s the most dedicated group of fans.

Actually we do know why, it’s a Phil Spencer slash MS decision. We even know the reasons! Spencer himself said he never wanted to repeat the marketing disasters that were many of their Xone titles. In more recent years Crackdown 3 and Halo 5’s marketing to be precise - the first being a title that was announced and showcased way too soon (exactly like Scalebound and Fable Legends btw) and the other one being extremely misleading due to changes in late production.
To avoid similar problems in future games while also maximizing hype among the fans every game will be announced only when it’s certain to launch in around a year and presented only a few months before release. Gears (of War) 5 was the first big MS title to get this new treatment and the results were more than positive! Also Hi is a special case on top of that, seeing how it represents a new engine and is at the same time THE launch title of Series X. Even without the new ruling it would have been suicide to showcase Hi outside of a big event!
As such you’re right, of course we won’t see anything substantial before mid June! It sucks, but this how it will be for ALL XBox exclusive titles in the future. Hate or love the new direction, but this is how it is! Frankly I’m fine with it. I hate getting hyped for something that won’t come out for five or six years - looking at you TES7 and Cyberpunk!

Overall, I agree with your post.
That said, there is 0% chance that Hellblade 2: Senua’s Saga, which was debuted in December, is going to be releasing within a year of that date. Not that I’m complaining as the game looks fantastic so far. But I expect it to launch Holiday 2021.
It’s interesting that we’ve seen very little in the ways of games (or even tech demos) from Microsoft and even less from Sony.
What have we had from MS? A ray tracing example using Minecraft and a rough (but very cool) showing of how Gears 5 runs on the new system.
Pretty much nothing in terms of actual new content.
Phil Spencer has been very clear about not jumping the gun… but I really was expecting a bit more to go with the specs sheet… even if it was more tech demo orientated.
Surely it wouldn’t have been hard to show off a bit more of the Slipstream engine.
It’s kind of weird to me. Beforehand Halo always felt like a juggernaut the year it was releasing. Like straight from January 07, it was “the Halo 3 year”, 2012 was a lot of peoples’ “Halo 4 year”. We’ve had trailers for infinite for 2 years with dead silence between. It doesn’t even feel like “the Infinite year”. I have no doubt it’s releasing this year but it’s worrying to me because it’s following the pattern of Gears 5’s marketing… which really sucked; It was seldom there was anything to talk about in relation to the game that was coming out in only months. Infinite has been exactly the same. If it weren’t for Toy shows, book covers, and goofy leaks there would be absolutely no discussion revolving around Halo infinite, AND THE GAME IS RELEASING THIS YEAR! I’m aware E3 (time) is soon but to space out barely any info between 3 years isn’t exactly how to keep momentum going.

“The last time we really spoke about Halo Infinite was when we debuted the Discover Hope trailer at E3 earlier this year,” John Junyszek, 343’s community manager, wrote. “We know that’s a long time to go without saying much about a Halo game, but please trust me when I say that the Halo hype train that kicked off two weeks ago with Halo: Reach will not be slowing down at all in 2020.”
…whelp. Kind of hard for a hype train to slow down when it’s barely rolling. The only consistent Halo talk is on the old games being ported to PC, which is important, PC bros deserve the games that we all love. However, the porting of past games isn’t exactly hype.
I’ve been thinking about this a lot, and I don’t think that this is a 343 decision, but a Microsoft one. They are launching a new console in 6-9 months, and we know NOTHING about it except specs. I’ve been rebuked for saying this before, but people don’t care about specs. People who are thinking about buying a gaming console want to know about the games. If someone is super concerned about the specs, they are probably just going to modify their PC so they can play the newest games that come out. The sole reason these consoles exist in the first place is to play games. But the only things being shown to demonstrate the power of the newest console generation is how well it runs older games, which is a bit bass ackwards. 343 is making announcements of esports partnerships, even though nobody has even SEEN the multiplayer. Nobody knows a dang thing about this game. With a new console generation and a single games development budget of half a billion dollars, you would think that Microsoft would be swinging for the fences, but they aren’t.

The difference between the announcing of TES7 and Cyperpunk is that they didn’t have release date, just the announcement that they are being made. This shows fans of the IP that they aren’t being forgotten and something is coming for them (cough Valve cough) and show a new IP is being worked on in general. Halo Infinite and Xbox Series X have announced deadlines of Holiday 2020. That’s about 6-9 months out, and nobody knows much about either. Cyperpunk 2077 is slotted for this September, and they showed gameplay at E3 2018 and 2019.
