Why Hasn't There Been More Content Added On Already?

This game got it’s surprise debut in November which shocked the gaming world in a good way. Halo had so much momentum to run with after that, and it seems like ever since December they just literally lost it all and have not given a rats -Yoink!- about it. There is no new content, maps, doesn’t seem like weapons have been touched that much at all for nerfs/buffs (Needler and AR are low key OP). Not to mention that they had a busted battle pass system and worked on fixing that, but now that the season has been extended to May, you HAVE to give the community some more content or some extra stuff work with for game progression and rewards nowadays. They can’t keep people playing the game anymore and the fact that the ranks reset this late is trash. Most of the people who wanted to play this game and rank up and play in their division properly have already been long gone, so now it’s a ton of sweats going through the ranks and it’s just not the same feel. I mean, kudos for finally getting there, but I mean 343 seems to constantly be behind the curve, do they not? Is there no project team to stay ahead of the game and dive through this community forum discussion to see what people want and highlight key issues in order to bring new ideas to the table? I feel like I’m rambling on here now, so I’m going to stop while I’m ahead and unleash all my rage against 343, but my god. There are so many more things you guys could be doing to keep people interested in the game and it has just fell so so short, and being a big halo fan, I am legitimately saddened for the game and the franchise.

First, spacing out your paragraphs wouldn’t kill you. Walls of text suck to read and don’t help your message stick out.

Second, from what I’ve heard, they’re spending most of their time preparing for the second season. Optimistically, we’ll be getting more content during that time frame, but it’s more than likely that we won’t be getting steady content flow until season 3.

That’s speculative though. Anything can happen in 7-8 months, and maybe they’ll catch their second wind some time in between.

No point in updating a dead game LOL

I didn’t really care too much about the spacing and the proper BS in an essay, because this was more so a rant against why this game is just hot garbage right now. In the future though, if i have another post I will make sure to space it out for you.

I do think what you said is true about the upcoming seasons and future of Halo, but don’t you think they already crapped the bed by not keeping their player base interested in the first season…? I mean in order to establish a DOMINANT game you have to have a community to start with. The fact that they are so lack luster in this first season and not holding onto anybody, should be the downfall and end of this game.

Look at other games like Fortnite and CoD. Not saying that I like those games particularly, but they were the giants in the industry and dominated player base for MONTHS, and because of that, they still have true fans to this day who will start to come back once they get bored. Halo has not installed any roots into their players through this first season, therefore, nobody will be coming back to play this game. Only the small few that get hooked by an ad or word of mouth, or the OG sweats in this game.

343 continues to shoot themselves in the foot and have never learned their lesson over multiple years in the industry. They should ultimately be ashamed, and if they ever want any new hope of pulling a community together, they ought to fire their current staff and bring in someone new to restructure their freaking Shop/Market, as well as Gameplay Development, and player retention. This was a promising game that turned into a hot mess, solely because of the fact that they do not keep up to speed with things and constantly delay everything…

Rant Over.

Seeing how the game released and how they have handled things. I’m surprised anyone would ask.

IMO I believe 343 has more issues within the company then I care to hear, and that has more to do with why the game is in such a poor state. The truth is, if they can’t get their own issues sorted out, how can anyone expect the game to get rolling as it should have already?

Of course, and I don’t disagree with the rest, either. They seem to forego learning from their mistakes every time, and instead opt for reinventing the game formula in unpopular ways and directions whenever they ask themselves “what should we do for the next one?”

I am trying to be optimistic.
If they can give us regular content drops in S2 and then S3 comes with major content and then more regular content drops, boy.
Halo might not be dead, but right now, it sure feels like it is dying

The answer is simple, 343 have no motivation or need to put resources into making free maps for a free game, Don’t get me wrong they will do it but if it was a map pack for sale you bet we’d have it by now !!!

Map packs don’t generate revenue directly, so STOP buying stuff from the store !!!
They take notice of revenue not comments on forums

The more comments on the forums, the more bad publicity their game gets, which is kind of bad for MS’s flagship game

Well near as I can tell:

  • The game is temperamental and can’t easily be updated. It’s not a stable platform on which they can just start piling content.

  • There’s a ton of technical problems and launch features like Co-Op which is devouring time behind the scenes.

  • Key talent is leaving 343 and replacing them takes time.

  • They gambled they could delay Season 2 with limited content but say that it brought Co-Op and fixed technical issues like desync. In hindsight they should have decoupled the two maps and dropped that with the new armours after 3 months. Co-Op looks set for season 3 anyway.

  • Unexpected challenges like BTB breaking.

  • Crisis with the store and progression systems. Putting out those fires is a distraction.

  • Just a bit of speculation. I don’t know how game development works. But, I don’t think they’re making anywhere near as much money as they did from Warzone REQS. Which BTW delaying selling that second Battle Pass and not having items on the store does not help. That might mean Microsoft hasn’t given them the resources to meet the problem. But has given them a budget and told them to make it work to generate a certain level of return. Perhaps a lot of their contractors were only down to work till launch; even though the game didn’t have all its launch features ready and had a lot of issues to resolve.

All these issues are compounding one another. So not that much content.

In an ideal world, they would get the basics sorted out and then get back into a regular content release cycle. But if they couldn’t do this in six years how is a few months going to resolve all that?

All the contents being added in other games lol

Just realised we’ll have to wait for Season 2 as long as the Weapon was stuck in that chamber waiting for Chief.

I will give you 343 reasons

I agree with everything you said.

Surprise release in November or not- does not change the fact all the maps we have now were fully ready and complete almost 4 months ahead of that- when they were playable in the flights.

So really its 8 months after launch and still no content.

To understand it- one must only look at the MCC- a collection of already made games. Launched broken, with issues and it took 343i 6 years! to fix it.

This is a studio made up of a “love for halo” apparently, and yet most of the people who worked on Infinite were only employed under a temporary 18 month contract…

Go figure,

I think it takes alot of work, since the maps are loaded from the server they need to update every server with the new maps, the roll out process might be more dificult than it hade to be if it was not on dedicated servers.

343 has servers all around the world, you do the math, it will take time and testing process. I also think 343 do not have so many beta testers out there. When Bungie made Halo they could test everthing in the same building.

343 are probably just renting servers and when population drops so does the servers, making the game feel worse to play.
