Since the dawn of Halo, the radar has been essential to the Heads-Up-Display of every Spartan and Sangheili in the game. The motion tracker was something that made the games a bit more intense as you knew when someone was moving around you, which made you feel more like a war machine in the campaign and showed how truly outnumbered you were when facing off against The Flood.
At default, the radar has always been 25 meters, but in some multiplayer settings you could adjust that to your liking to extend or restrict the radar ranges.
Then Halo 5 Guardians released and introduced us to the enhanced mobility of infinite sprint, sliding, and thruster boosting available at all times. Player speeds increased SIGNIFICANTLY and so the Radar was adjusted to compensate for that. Campaign had the Radar be 40-to-50 meters, depending on which Spartan you played as. Whereas the Multiplayer extended the range to 30 meters as a default.

SO WHY IN HALO INFINITE IS THE RADAR
EIGHTEEN METERS ??!?!!!
What happened?! Who’s bright idea was it to restrict our Radar down to such a claustrophobic size as the DEFAULT SETTING for all matches?
Halo Infinite introduced the Grapple Shot, which now allows Spartans to look at a vehicle and scoff saying “I can clock in speeds of 40 miles-per-hour and stay lethal with my weapons, why bother with the Mongoose outside of Capture-The-Flag?”
The radar being so small while everyone is able to sprint with Thruster Packs and Grapple Shots has resulted in many of my deaths where I glanced down at my radar to check to see if everything was clear, seeing no motion indication, and then in the time it takes for me to look back up on my screen SUDDENLY there is a Spartan bull-charging me with a sword that is able to close the gap within .17 seconds.
POINT-ONE-SEVEN SECONDS
That is like within two frames, maybe three if you really wanted to push the numbers.
Like seriously, I am getting more jumpscares than a FNAF player because of this short window!
So what is the point of the radar then? Just to tell me that the enemy is above or below me?
Just to tell me when someone is on the opposite wall?
Because by the time you notice someone in range, it is already too late because since your eyes are not on the reticle and ready to aim & fight, the enemy already has the prime opportunity to make the first shot. It kinda defeats the purpose of allowing you to have situational awareness, when it causes you to be unaware of what is already considered to be close-range combat threats right in front of you.
It is honestly no wonder why I am seeing more campers with the gravity hammer.
