why has no one mentioned this yet

In the legendary ending for guardians you see what looks like cortan in control of a halo ring. Why has no one brought up how bad this could be. In halo 6 when you beat her and she has lost everything she had what do you think she will do with this random halo ring she has.

idk what you’re talking about with her losing anything, but its looking like H6 will be a Halo 3 reskin. Interesting since its releasing a year after H3A…

Because her entire goal is to guide/control humanity and all other society based lifeforms to what she views is a better future…idk it would be a little weird for her to be like “Listen to me or I will kill everything more complex than an echinoderm”. You wouldn’t burn your house down to stop termites, may as well just live with them till they take the house down.

Actually no…it would be like burning down an entire block of row houses cause a single one had termites. Say humanity holds out against her, would it be fair for her to kill every other species to punish them? Keep in mind the Rings target pretty much anything, the lore kind of hinting it relates to having enough of a nervous system for the flood to infect, as things like hunter worms lived through the firing of the rings on some of the rings themselves. Seriously Forerunners should have weaponized some Starfish rather than hunter worms!

I see what you are saying but then what would be the point in showing that she has a halo ring in the first place

I wouldnt be so sure about a H3 anniversary. After the MCC disaster I’m sure they wont be doing any kind of re-release AND halo wars 2 is coming out next fall. H3 was on 360 too, so the difference between old and current generations wouldnt be like 1 and 2. I highly doubt H3A will ever exist

The flood is going to make a return. The ring she has control over still has the containment cells/tubes… She’s been touched by the Gravemind, as well as the Domain… She’s an AI that has more knowledge than anything in the history of ever.

kind late to the party, this has been discussed as soon as the game launched

Could be she has modified them to target individual groups rather than just a set amount of biomass/nerve clusters on a single organism. Could be misdirection. Could be she weaponized the flood like putting a “kill switch” in the genetics; I mean we can already do this to some levels with todays genetics.

Could be like the legendary ending of Halo CE which was 100% in no way canon…

Michael Westen says that when you’re trying to intimidate someone you don’t have to tell someone what you’re going to do to them or even hurt them, you just show them anger and violence and let them wonder… Also, refer to the ILoveBees AI “Durga”/“The OP” for smaller scale meanness that can be done.

Cortana is only really concerned with humanity, as far as I can tell, so if she wants to fire off a ring in a non-human inhabited system as a display of frustration, it could frighten enough people into wanting to side with her whatever the cost.

Combat Evolved had an alternate story line where when Chief returned to the Control Room with Spark, Cortana was mad with power and you had to stop her. I think they’re going that route. Not Halo 3.

I have to mention, cortana still has the index from alpha halo… She could in theory place that halo ring near a inhabited system and fire it wiping out everything in that system and nearby. I can’t remember how far the effect is from one halo. The forerunners did it to the main world of ancient humans. So it has been done before.

OH OH OH, I got it, without the Gravemind the Flood are mindless/controllable and the Halos can be used as giant Psi Disruptors and then there will be a baby Gravemind some ONI people are trying to chemically control…wait this is just the plot to brood wars right?

Halo’s need time to charge before being fired so depending on how long she lets it change will determine how large the radius is.

This line from Cortana in Halo: CE makes me wonder if Bungie knew so early on what exactly the Halos were going to be.

> This ring isn’t a cudgel, you barbarian! It’s something else…something much more important…The Covenant were right! This ring, it’s Forerunner. Give me a second to access… yes, the Forerunners built this palace, what they called a, “fortress world,” in order to… no… no, that can’t be. Oh, those Covenant fools! They must’ve known, there must have been signs!

IMO, a cudgel is exactly what it is. It’s hardly a precision instrument at any rate. Rather than targeting flood genetics or morphology, it kills everything. So it’s a big club to smash life… They also happen to be individually designed to hide other things it seems like, but I stopped piecing lore together years ago.

I had a point when I went to look for this quote and completely forgot what it was in the time it took me to find it.

That actually makes a lot of sense just because she has a halo doesn’t mean she is going fire it in fact in halo 4 it is said the index can do more than fire a halo ring and she still has the one from delta (assuming they aren’t a one time use item) so who knows what she will do with it

The index is like a massive computer file, full of Forerunner data. I always took it to be something like a historical reference, operating manual, and strategy guide on a huge scale. It’s something you use, but for reference. I doubt it’s a “one time use” kind of thing.

But I could be wrong. Again, I haven’t dealt with lore since high school.

I thought the index was just passwords/administrative access or something. Thus why objects like the Monitors who have pretty much full knowledge of the rings need them/cant directly activate them alone. Similar to how Cortana needed the actual chip from inside Keyes head to self-destruct the ship even though she clearly knew all the things needed to set it up. It does seem 1 index can access any other Rings.

After posting this, I had to find time to go and look it up.

The Index IS pretty much just a key, but some of them might also hold genetic maps of all of the life forms in the system it’s in (this is not stated as fact by the wiki). I think my confusion stems from the fact that it’s retrieved from the Library, which is where Cortana actually gets all of that information that drains her lifespan.

I just hope when we play on the halo ring that there is flood.

They have brought it up…alot.
