Why Halsey is a "Bad Guy"

DISCLAIMER: I don’t actually think she’s bad, but i’m trying to list the reasons why THEY think she’s bad.

Kidnappings
She kidnapped 75 6-year old kids. In our time, that is 75 counts of kidnapping, and if someone got smart, 75 counts of murder. (the replacement clones died days after they replaced the subjects)

Cortana
As we all know, cortana was created from a clone of Dr. Halsey, a civilian. The creation of an A.I by a civilian is illegal, this is stated in “Fall of Reach” in a conversation between Halsey and Cortana.

If you think Halo Reach is canon…
Halsey diverted a spartan deployment…twice. She can’t do that because she’s a civilian. Carter said this during “Sword Base” when Halsey was threatening kat with throwing her in jail.

Kelly
The negativity towards Halsey started when she kidnapped kelly. It got even worse when she told Lord Hood to send Blue Team to retrive her from onyx. If you think about it, it’s like a scientist gone mad, trying to save her work from being destroyed.

Has this clarified anything or do you still think that she is 100%, a hero?

Now Halsey needs to make a time machine showing those people what would’ve happened without the spartans.
Everyone dies

ill call her an antaganist he has a “i do w.e the f!ck i want -_-” attitude

Well, aside from the aforementioned ones, it’s easier to blame someone else for atrocities than it is to blame yourself. It’s not like ONI is going to take any blame themselves when they can say “oh it was all her”. Regardless of the fact that they all said okay to it.

In Reach Carter says to Noble team, “Get down to the science wing. Dr. Halsey wants to see us and Command says we’re all hers.”
That means she didn’t divert Noble team, they were hers to command.
But I agree with all the other stuff.

True, very true.

However, as has been pointed out before, the Spartans were not created to stop the Covenant and defend humanity.

They were created to put down, in no uncertain terms, other humans. Their presence and the integral part they played in stopping the Covenant, Flood, etc was really just a happy accident.

The sequence of events in no way lessens the fact that she’s a friggin monster.

That said… I still like her better than Sarah Palmer.

Halo Reach is canon, period.

The UNSC Command told Noble Team to go to Halsey. Cortana was an extremely important asset.

All reasons are valid. I still like Halsey though.

There were many reasons why halsey is arrested by ONI some are kidnapping children for the SPARTAN II project, hijacking ships, making cortana, and also kidnapping a spartan. But overall I don’t think she isn’t a bad person her spartan IIs saved mankind. If she didn’t make the spartan IIs everyone would of died.

I havn’t read any of the books but I got the reach: limited edition journal and it seems that she started and was encuraged to do the stuff she the closer the covenant got to Reach. Personaly, I though she would be more respected for the stuff she accomplished.

She committed all the charges levied on her, but ONI was the moneyman and the ones who told her to do it. While Halsey should be charged for her crimes, so should Parandsky and everyone else in ONI associated with the project. I think Halsey is being used as a scapegoat by ONI to avoid political backlash.

She’s the monster?

Who helped her kidnap those 75 kids? The UNSC. Who trained, fed and provided arms for those kids? The UNSC. The rest of the UNSC is just as culpable as Halsey.

But she’s the monster (read as scapegoat) because she finally had a flash of morals and ethics and decided to give closure to the families of the abducted Spartans and for trying to save her “children” from galaxy wide annihilation?

Please.

I still say ONI is using her as a scapegoat. They are the real criminals here.

go read “fall of reach” the only thing that made reach canon is the fact the bungie declared it canon… but in my personal opinion Halo: Reaches campaign never happened ever since i read fall of reach. noble team never existed. they werent even the ones to transfer cortana. master chief and his team transferred cortana to the autumn. noble team is a team that bungie made up on the fly so they could break away from chief for their last big game.

Dr. Halsey is the hero that humanity deserves, but not the one it needs.

^I think you confused her with chief. I like the Commissioner Gordon speech reference though.

Halsey isn’t “bad”. This whole thing isn’t so black and white but more along of the lines of doing what’s necessary. Halsey knew she would be viewed as a monster for doing this to the children, her mind was bothered by what she had done. At the same time though, if she didn’t create the Spartan IIs, humanity would have lost and been wiped out by The Covenant. What she did was wrong but what looking at the alternative, the needs/survival of an entire species out weighs the needs of a few hundred children.

Of course, not everyone will see it that way. That’s why many, including Parangosky and Palmer, consider her to be a war criminal because of what she done. Not only did she kidnap the kids for the program, she flash cloned them to give her mind some comfort. Of course, the doing of such was highly illegal and Parangosky hates Halsey for it.

Palmer could just hate Halsey alone just for the simple fact of kidnapping children and putting them through dangerous augmentations. Hell, any decent person would make the same judgements, especially if you were a parent.

343 is painting Halsey in a more realistic light. Not everyone is going to agree with this approach but consider Captain Lasky. He knows what she did but sets these feelings and judgements aside to accomplish greater things. That’s why he allows her aboard to study the artifact because she’s perhaps, one of the few experts on Forerunner technology (unlike Glassman). Why do you think he keeps ignoring Palmer’s requests? He does this about two or three times in Episode 3 to illustrate this.

The ends justify the means, obviously because if it weren’t for her, Humanity would have been destroyed by the Covenant.

SIMPLE:
Either you die a Hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villan

She’s a monster. She kidnapped 6 year old children for what I feel was an excuse to perform immoral experiments in the name of “stopping the insurrection.” That being said, the Spartans were pivotal in fighting the Covenant and the Flood and were really the only reason humanity wasn’t destroyed.

Overall, I do think she’s an interesting character. She irks me at times with her “I do what I want” attitude, but she is interesting.
