The 9th or tenth generation (I don’t keep track) is approaching. I feel that it would be best if Halo Infinite be on the next generation as a launch title. This way the game can take full advantage of what the next generation offers and will be a reason why people would want to buy an Xbox console over other competitors. What do you guys think? Should Halo Infinite release on the Xbox One or be on the next generation only?
I believe that Infinite will be releasing on all Microsoft platforms. It’s been confirmed that it will be on Xbox One and Windows 10. Brad Sams (a truly reliable source who’s 99.9% right) revealed that the next Xbox, codenamed Scarett, is on track to be released in 2020. I myself believe that Infinite is coming in 2020, and could very well be the launch title of Scarlett. Yes, it’ll be on Xbox One and PC, but I think they’ll use Halo to launch and sell Scarlett, like how they did with the original Xbox back in 2001.
Why not both?
You say to launch it next gen for advantages which I’d assume you mean technological but every console improves in that aspect. Furthermore I’m pretty sure the Xbox already beats PlayStation when it comes to console performance, Xboxes issue is it’s lack of games compared to PlayStation, gamers don’t care much for the hardware as much as they do the games. Lastly I already think the standard itself is so high that I find it an issue to see people wanting it raised further and further. If I’m wrong, what other advantages are there?
So again, why not both? Not everyone is going to sell out to pick up the next console immediately even if it comes with an exclusive, system seller games have only become less of a focus as you get more selling to various consoles. I can tell you with me already being hesitant on infinite that I’m not going to just buy it soon as it’s out, not for one game and not when my XBX still has many years of life to Justify it’s purchase. They’d be better off selling it to both generations as you’re making money from those like me who won’t upgrade immediately and those who choose to. If they do go next gen only, they’re having to wait for people to catch up months to a year down the road before they finally upgrade. I think if Halo wants good numbers in terms of sales, they’re better off selling to both.
This is assuming infinite would be launching into next gen of course, I think there’s still plenty of time to get it out on the XB1 before the next console (XB “2” or whatever they’ll call it) is out.
It’s crazy to think that the next generation is that close. I still don’t feel like I have gotten enough time out of my original xbone for the money I paid. My guess is that Infinite will release on xbone as a diet version and a complete version on the next gen, similar to how 360 games were released alongside xbone versions
I don’t agree. As an Xbox one x purchaser it would be a slap in the face to buy “the worlds most powerful console” then be denied access to new titles just 2 or 3 years later.
I don’t have the source, but I remember reading that Halo isn’t a console seller anymore. I think it would be missed sales if they decided to just keep it on their next console. Why not have one version on the Xbox One and then the most powerful version with the best graphics on the One X and the one after that?
Definitely not. I’m guessing it’ll release late 2019 and then the new xbox will come out in 2020 and have a better version on the next gen. Trying to get people to buy a whole new console this early and denying the older console the next halo game would be a bad business move.
Abandoning current Xbox One userbase & starting from 0 is a bad idea when backward & forward compatibility is possible.

I think Halo Infinite will release in 2020 on the current Xbox family and as launch title for Scarlett. I hope I’m wrong but that’s my view. My only reservation is that Halo is not the console selling flagship title it used to be. Will Infinite be that good ?

Based on data from 2016, Halo 5 sales equal to around 5 million physical copies (ie. digital sales are not included). Those numbers might put it on the lower end of the series sales wise (pretty sure only Halo:CE sold less than H5), but they are still excellent results. Provided 343 and MS play their cards right, Infinite could very much be a system seller.
Oh and I’m pretty sure that it will indeed be a cross-gen title. The X1 install base is too big to ignore, but having Halo be a launch title for an Xbox console again would be in by itself a huge marketing boon (back to the roots of the series for both art style AND console significance). I’m just worried as to how the game will look and perform on the baseline X1 consoles (X1X should do fine). 480P/20-30 FPS here we come!

After how halo 5 and mcc turned out I’m not making that mistake again of buying a new console just for halo
For me it doesnt really matter if Halo: Infinite is a launch title for the next xbox or not, as i probably be buying both anyway. by the time of 2020 im probably in need of a new console (my current one is slowly but surely giving up) and if Halo: Infinite happens to be a launch title, then i consider that a nice bonus as im currently planning on getting that game anyways.
It is already confirmed Infinite will launch on current consoles, but they didn’t say anything about next gen. I have a feeling Infinite and the next gen consoles will launch around the same time, I’m hoping for Infinite to be a launch title on the next console and also on current consoles simultaneously, depending on when the next console will launch obviously. Even in the first 3 months of launch would be fine too.
I don’t think there should be a new console for awhile its costing xbox so much money they just need to focus on game titles. Xbox one x has lots of potential its just up to the developers to utilize it.
None of the aspects that make Halo great are dependent on technology. All the horsepower in the world isn’t going to save the game if the story is bad and/or the game design is sub par.

No. Xbox 1 and 1X. Soon. Specs mean nothing. In fact spec fetishing has been a crutch. The splitscreen issue? They wanted to flex the specs.
Not a single gameplay improvement or innovation was afforded by all the specs of 360 or X1.

It does not matter how much potential is left in the Xbox One X imo, there will be a new Playstation to worry about too. I agree that Microsoft should be putting more focus on games, and it seems they are going by this years E3, however they won’t want Sony wiping the floor with them again when it comes to launching the next console.

Why compare the sales of only Halo CE and Halo 5 ? With Halo 2 sales grew to 8.5 million, with Halo 3 sales increased to something like 14.5 million. Dropping from those figures to what you state Halo 5 sold is not excellent results in my book, even if we guess and throw in 2.5 million for digital sales leaves it well short of Halo Reach and Halo 4, that sold around 10 million each.
I agree about the next Xbox, I’m sure Halo Infinite will launch on the new machine and the current family of consoles. I have my reservations because we know nothing of Halo Infinite, you state we’re going back to the roots of the series for both art style and console significance. How do you know that ? Sure, we have seen an engine demo with old and new art syles, but nothing more.
I have my reservations about Halo being the console seller it used to be for many reasons. Halo is not in a good place right now, many I know including mysef are not buying Halo Infinite as things stand, let alone buying a new console for it, I also read it’s coming to PC, if that’s true the console population gets diluted even more and the console loses another exclusive, I hope Halo Infinite turns out to be the Halo we all want. I just don’t see it at the moment.

The potential “console significance” is tied to having Halo be a launch title again. Halo:CE is one of the best launch titles for any console, period and played a major role in getting the Xbox off the ground. Having Halo:Infinite be launch title (even if it is a crossgen title) for Scarlet would be HUGE.
And I disagree that Halo is in a bad place right now. It isn’t in the best of places and it will probably never reach the stratospheric impact of Halo 3, but we have made progress. Halo 4 was a major turning point for the series and turned a whole lot of people off from the series. Halo 5, while not completely satisfying everyone, has done an admirable job of reviving interest in the series (in the pro scene, in particular). As I said, 5 mil might not be amazing by the series standards, but it is still a great number and even if Infinite does not surpass those numbers it would still qualify as a system seller. 343 have done a decent job of improving their core formula after their rocky start with Halo 4, so I don’t see why Infinite shouldn’t be yet another step forward.

I cannot agree, simply having Halo Infinite as a launch title for Scarlet does not make it HUGE if the game is poorly received. How can you say 343i have done a good job improving the core formula after a rocky start with Halo 4 ? The apparent sales figures of Halo 5 and the player drop off after launch say the opposite imo, and there could be a follow on to Halo Infinite. After Halo 4 I decided to buy Halo 5. Yet after Halo 5 I’m not buying Halo Infinite as things stand, for me the rng loot based reqs made the game a tedious grind.
I do agree that Halo Infinite will launch on both the current and next family, but I still have my reservations, and those reservations increased this morning when I learned that Halo Infinite might be a games as a service title. I want the next Halo to be great, and I want the complete package when it releases, but I’m not confident given the player fall off and some of the decisions of 343i over the years. I hope I’m wrong, I will be happy to be wrong, but we’ve seen nothing to indicate Infinite will make Halo a console seller again.

I think at this point its almost impossible to close the gap between Xbox and Playstation they are well over twice the amount of sales a new console wont change that.
