Why Halo Infinite Should Be Free-Roam

Halo Infinite possibly takes place on Zeta halo, but what would be amazing, would be the ability to explore Zeta halo. Maybe you could have the ability to build UNSC bases, collect and upgrade weapons and vehicles. Or you could go around killing covenant, forerunners, banished, and possibly even the flood? Maybe you could try to get off Zeta Halo and get back to UNSC command. Whatever the game is about I am sure it will be great!

The Mechanics

The title doesn’t fit the thread content. I’m all for expanded exploration, but I doubt leaving the Halo ring (except when the story line dictates) will fit the story. Likewise, building structures, collecting vehicles and weapons, and upgrading doesn’t really fit Halo.

Well, some things new should be added to expand the Halo universe but yes leaving the ring does seem rather far-fetched. But thank you for your feedback.

Halo is not an rpg and you cant just switch genres mid franchise

Why Halo Infinite Should NOT Be Free-Roam.
Open-world/free-roam games often suffer from similar issues that can make them a boring experience.

  • Empty world. A big open space isn’t much fun if there isn’t much in it. A lot of Destiny’s free spaces were super large but with not many enemies in them, making most of your time spent in the free spaces traveling on your Sparrow. Anthem’s demo had this same issue. Additionally, when you have procedurally generated enemies on the map, or enemies on spawn timers, you end up finding yourself fighting the same battles over and over, which gets repetitive. - Mission structure. Story flow can suffer in free-roam games. Giving the player the choice about what missions to go to, when to tackle side-missions instead of story missions, when to hunt/grind for things, etc., means that while the player can ultimately do what they want, they mess with the natural flow of the story. Now, this isn’t inherently a bad thing for a game that provides additional content aside from the main story, but Halo has never functioned like that before, and I don’t see that really working for Halo unless you make it a Far Cry-esque game, which would be shaking up the Halo formula in a way that probably wouldn’t go over too well. I wouldn’t want to be doing fetch quests in a Halo game. Also, STRIDER4812, a couple of forum rules/etiquette notes:

  • Don’t post multiple times in a row. You can reply to multiple people in a single post, and you can edit your last post to add additional content if no one new has posted after you. - Please only use the Spartan Co. and Recruiting subforums for doing recruiting stuff. - Don’t add a link to your Spartan Co. on every post. If you reach forum rank Spartan, you’ll unlock the ability to add a custom signature to your posts, at which point you can have your signature include a link to your Spartan Co.

Because it would open up new Horizons and allow Warthogs to go as fast as they can.

How about a new campaign with a story that isn’t currently told in any books or lore? That fits the requirement for adding new things to expand Halo. Consequently, that’s also what is going to happen in Infinite.

Can confirm. I’ve been playing Horizon Zero Dawn for a while and i’ve all but forgotten about the story because of all of the free roam/side quests i’ve been doing.
