Reach had extreme depth in the gameplay in the campaign. With the moas and the new vehicles like the truck and forkllft, it felt like you could use anything.
Oh wow a forklift! OMG I could ride it?
It also had a really good story to show what happened before we found Halo.
If there was one halo game that you want Infinite to be based around, what would it be and why?
I’d probably go with Reach as well. What I liked about Reach was the campaign, it was very somber and you were fighting a losing battle. It had wildlife like the guta and the moa, and you could drive like any vehicle in the game. It also had the best art style imo.
Apologies as I am not well-versed in the non-game lore. Assuming Infinite takes place shortly after H5, Reach would essentially be just starting re-colonization at this point?
If that’s the case, I do like the idea of it serving as a sorts of home base. Would be a very fitting parallel for the game franchise - rebuilding and going back to its roots.
I mean, I wouldn’t mind seeing Reach again in the beginning, but I also wouldn’t care if we didn’t either. I’m more excited to be back on a Halo ring again more than anything.

Pretty sure he meant Reach as in Reach the game and its gameplay/style - plus this line: “If there was one halo game that you want Infinite to be based around, what would it be and why?”
I can’t really pinpoint any one game for myself, each had something I liked that I ended up missing later on (except perhaps CE)
From H2A and 5: Look at the Mythic playlist, and you got my ideal MP gameplay. Then take the awesome sounds of 4 and H2A (c’mon, the tank sounded AWESOME in 4. You could feel the power every shot you took). Also interactive map elements from H2A.
From 3, Reach, and 4, there’s the equipment and stuff. At worst, having modes where it’s pick-up only (Like Reach could have jetpacks on-map and you’d fight over them just like a power weapon spawn) or disable them for specific modes or playlists outright.
Also from Reach, the wildlife on-map and more driveable vehicles.
I feel like I have to sort of disagree on this. It has some interesting moments like flying the ship in space, the forklift but the campaign itself was kind of weak. I mean it was a decent campaign but I miss the exploring in classic Halo before Reach but Reach wasn’t as bad as 4,5 was. I just hope Halo Infinite campaign feels more like Halo 1/2 since loved getting lost in the city or exploring the Halo’s island and finding multiply paths to get to different locations. Halo Reach felt like just 1 loop and linear paths.
But I wouldn’t be against seeing more wild life in the games.

If I had misunderstood, than I’d have to say at least for general gameplay, I’d rather it resemble Halo 2 or 3 mechanics and include equipment from Halo 3 again as map pickups. I was never a huge fan of loadouts and spawning in with Armor Abilities, so there isn’t much from Reach I’d enjoy returning aside from armor customization. As for campaign, the rumor of open world level design makes me think of the old E3 demo of Halo CE, so I’m open to the idea of 343 taking that sort of direction.
I’m not specifically calling out anyone in this thread.
I find it ridiculous that H5 gets blasted for its gameplay being too distant than the original trilogy by fans who praise Reach’s gameplay as the best in the series in the same breath.
Reach isn’t even an arena shooter (loadouts) and has no business being the foundation of any Halo gameplay in the present or future. Reach had a cool campaign, and featured some cool maps I wouldn’t mind seeing remade. But if you think it didn’t stray just as far from traditional Halo gameplay as H4 you’re fooling yourself.
Infinite 100% needs to be an evolution of H5 in the same way H3 was an evolution of H2. Similar, but refine everything, go through multiple general and focused balance passes, and add a few awesome new features.
Using Reach as the foundation of Halo Infinite would hurt the franchise.
I have to agree with ronnie42 here. Reach had some interesting things in the campaign, but I didn’t think it was incredibly. Multiplayer wise, I felt like Reach was a disaster!! It got a lot better later on, but still. I don’t want loadouts, AAs or bloom or anything like this. There ranking system was absolutely atrocious and then they just scrapped it because it was so bad!!! Now Reaches MLG playlist was pretty good and if the game played like that from the get go, maybe things would of been different. Everyone starts the same, AAs on the map as pick up items (which was huge!!!) and so on.
I think Infinite should be more like Halo 2/2A/3/ODST with a splash of Reach/5. Multiplayer maps need to have interactive elements like H2A had as well. Playlist set up should be like Halo 3. They need social, ranked, and MLG/HCS playlists from the get go.
Firefight NEEDS to be a thing in Infinite. A HUGE thing!! It needs to be like or at the very least, have a playlist, that is ODST style. For the life of me, I can’t figure out why the most popular (arguably) firefight mode, the original one, hasn’t been back. I’ve never heard a single person say they don’t like ODST style firefight.
Also, if 343I makes all ranked playlists have MLG/HCS settings, there will be such a backlash the likes that they have never seen (ok maybe minus the MCC launch…but who knows! LoL) I’m so tired of people saying all ranked modes need to be no radar, precision weapons only and so forth. They most certainly should not be! That is what MLG/HCS playlist(s) are for. Just like how Halo 3 did it. Halo 3’s playlist set up was perfect.
I’ll be honest here though. My excitement for Infinite went down a lot. Revealing the multiplayer and what they’re going to do might be the only thing that gets me excited for Infinite again…but at the same time, if I don’t like what I see, this might be the first Halo since Halo 2 for me that I don’t get day 1. I’ll obviously play the free to play part day 1, but that’s it. Speaking of the free to play portion, I really don’t know if I like that idea and this whole “10 year” plan…I don’t know… I can see a lot of problems with that plan, but won’t get into right now.
