Why halo 6 should not have free dlc

The reason why halo 6 should not have free dlc js because it gives 343i to cut out content because they are affraid of loosing population because of halo 4 but you dont need to do that look at halo reach before they removed the population counter 20,000 current players and the game came out in what 2011 somewhere around there and its because it has alot of content and a tonne of gametypes to keep it fun and refreshing so in a way free dlc is holding halo 5 back if they took another year and a half and polish and launched with all the cookie cutter dlc i would probably still be playing im not saying halo 5 population is low but it shows the more effort you put into a game instead of half baking one the better it does

Halo 5 was designed in such a way that they could not port previous gametypes into the enhanced engine. That’s why gametypes such as infection, oddball, fiesta, and grifball had to be “remade” for H5. Maybe the first two months of free content could be considered cut content that didn’t make the launch, but so far a lot of the free content has left me impressed. WZFF and Forge are two game modes that were built from the ground up and implemented, which has been unheard of in previous Halo titles. If Halo 6 will launch for Xbox One which im fairly certain it will, it will likely feature all of H5’s content and more. I’m fine with microtransactions so long as the steady stream of free content keeps coming with new and more ambitious game modes.

U like ugly non dev made maps? Cough why cough

I understand your concern that “free dlc” is a euphemism for “adding in content that should have been part of launch.”

But the opposite of free dlc is paid dlc. Paid map packs have always been a population-splitting failure in every previous Halo. The developer doesn’t make as much money as they’d like, the players who buy never get to use their cool new maps because there are players who don’t.

And that’s assuming that paid dlc follows the model of past Halos. Which it won’t. It will, if anything, follow the model of Destiny. So wish away your free dlc if you want to, but realize that the alternative is paying $60 for the game, and then paying again for House of Wolves. And again for Dark Below. And again for Taken King. And again for Rise of Iron. That’s an additional $80 plus whatever Iron ends up costing. And that will be followed shortly by the launch of Destiny 2. Drop another $60 there. Assuming the price doesn’t go up by then.

Long and short: Expecting Halo 5 to have launched with the content of Reach at the price of Halo 2 is unrealistic. You can complain about the way the developer informed us of what we were going to get, but you can’t complain about the underlying economics. I may not have loved the slow roll out of Halo 5 content, but at no point did I ever feel like I had less than $60 worth of game in my console.

Halo 5 was in development for about 3 years. That’s more than enough time to remake core Halo gametypes. There’s really no excuse for the severe lack of content at launch.

It was in development for 3 years, but the schedule they followed is completely unknown. Most of that time was probably spent building and fine tuning the engine for 1080p/60fps (dynamic resolution).

I can’t remember who, but an employee stated they wanted infection at launch, but couldn’t port it from previous titles which left them to rebuild it. Halo 5 is a very flexible engine, but it would appear it takes quite some time to add new content such as gametypes and maps.

I may not have loved the slow roll out of Halo 5 content, but at no point did I ever feel like I had less than $60 worth of game in my console.

I would also like to point out that Halo 5 had more maps then Halo Reach did. Reach had 8 plus Forge world, Halo 5 had 9, plus remixes, plus 4 forge canvases.

I think the worst part about the free DLC is the smattering of REQs that were added, plus all the maps. With the logic of “well everyone gets them, so everything is implemented”, it really screws over the player that puts the game down for any extensive portion of time (upwards of two months).

Like, oh, all these REQs you had, and you only had rares or better left to unlock? Welcome back, here’s 15 new uncommons, and 12 new commons, all which are worthless sewage that you’ll only use once so we can clog up your REQ inventory and hope that you spend real money to skip over the annoyance we’ve created. Oh, and we added even more rare/OP REQs, so that your arsenal is now outgunned compared to everyone else.

Oh, and all the maps you knew? We’re adding more, and since everyone has them, you don’t have an option but to learn them. Forget that you were good before you left the game, if you don’t know a map, skill couldn’t mean less.

That’s the thing I don’t like about free updates. If you had to pay for them, you could just choose not to pay, and pick up right where you left off.

I’d rather have free dlc then Paid dlc. All it does is separate the players. On Halo Reach the DLC maps pretty much died and you never played them again.

Sorry I enjoy Battlefield Maps more than Halo Maps - also the Maps from Battlefield don`t need so much space like a Halo 5 “free Content” Update.

Games have become exponentially more complex. The 3 year dev cycle is no longer a viable option, until publishers realise this then games are either going to get smaller and smaller in content or launch broken and buggy.

You know what the other name for a lazy developer is ? Unemployed.

Game developers don’t cut content because they feel like doing less work, they cut content because they realise there not going to be able to hit the deadline or complete the game in a satisfactory condition (MCC).

Battlefield 4 (with all DLC`s): 68,4 GB
Halo 5 (with every “free” DLC): 87,3 GB

Only a Jake Harper will think that huge GB means a better game.

40-50 if I’m remembering correctly. A little larger than MCC, I remember that much.
