Why Halo 5 has so few Game Modes & Playlists.

Watch this 15 min video this guy has some very good points.

I find it funny that this guy came up with the same conclusion I did months ago, he just put it in to much better words then I could.

Agree or Disagree, lets discuss this.

It’s either:

  1. They want you to play Warzone and buy REQ packs
  2. They are that stupid.
    Choose whichever you like.

Or it takes time to implement gamemodes or they know that gamemodes will have low population because they have population data from all past games. Why would they make a playlist if it will have a low population?

I remember in the past when we still had population counters that most of these less popular variant game modes had extremely low populations which often lead to very laggy games. I guess everyones nostalgia goggles filters that out though.

And I remember when Halo had a population big enough to support a good number of playlists, guess that’s just silly nostalgia too in your mind.

What I know in the present is that certain playlists in Reach have less than 1000 players on a daily basis (oftentimes even less than 500 people) yet it is still incredibly easy to find games, and those games aren’t laggy. Don’t make excuses for 343’s ineptness

Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.

funny that the latest game in the series has the least amount of content hey, running theme in video games nowadays

They are fat from stupid, people buy req packs like it is water. Dlc is the whole game slow fed to us. It is obvious.

What a dumb excuse. 3.5 years of development, not one person mentioned KOTH, Oddball, Assault? Gametypes that have been around and EXPECTED for 15 years?

And I’m not even asking for new stuff, I’m asking for Snipers, Doubles, Social Slayer which have already existed. So there’s no excuse. These all had higher populations than Breakout/FFA. So you’re excuse for these people is 100% bogus.

The population on this game would be much higher if it had more playlists at launch. It’s too late now, once again.

yea because im sure doubles and snipers would have a low poulation its like 343 hires people 2 get on these forums and defend them. I love halo 5 gameplay but the playlist rotation is rediculous, if you make any more excuses for them i assume you work there.

i agree with everything he said.

If the Warzone micro transaction theory from the vid is accurate then I have a couple of questions…

Why does 343 hide game license sales?

Maybe 343 is still suffering from PTSD thanks to MCC and is just not thinking strait…
.
Why does 343 hide the population statistics?

Originally I thought that the lack of data relating to population could be due to an engineering issue with the new dynamic dedicated server infrastructure. I no longer believe this is the case, Microsoft has more telemetry data piped out of the xbox one running Windows 10, and all those weird cloud based Azure servers than ever before. Combine that with the fact that this site “halowaypoint” knows if you are online, offline, and what your doing while running the Halo 5 app on the xbox and its hard to conclude that 343 doesn’t have this data easily and readily available…

On a side note.

The req system doesn’t bug me and I don’t mind grinding for exp/packs. Although however unlikely it is possible that I would purchase a pack with real money if A. I really liked a skin and B. I was intoxicated. This is the combo that got me to purchase skins on CS GO, However CS is a bad example because at the end of the day the weapon skins do hold a monetary value.

The req system with regards to the crowd funding or supplemental funding for HCS and or other competitions is a great idea as proven by “Gaben” over at Valve for some of the most popular competitive multiplayer games / competitive events in recent history, Dota 2 and CS GO.

At the end of the day I agree that Halo 5 is lacking the social playlists we have grown to love and hate over the last 12 + years.

A symptom

What I find most annoying though is jumping into a so called social weekend playlist only to find that players are trying harder and taking the weekend unranked playlists more seriously than the static ranked playlists… I believe that if social playlists were permanent it would bring as many non competitive halo players back to Halo 5 and matchmaking as it would take away from Warzone and at the end of the day more halo 5 consumers is better for our community and 343 regardless of which part of the game they enjoy playing. This would also resolve some of the Try-hard issues in the temporary weekend social playlists…

I just want team snipers. That’s all I ask for. Nothing more. Nothing less. PLZ

> halo 2 had these playlists in 2004… is that PATHETIC that a game from 2015 lacks many staple playlists a game from 2004 had. its not even counting big and small clan battle playlists. a game from 2015 has a THIRD of the content that a game from 04 had… also splitscreen.

Yes but the game’s population may have been larger back then. It may be better these days to focus on a few main playlists so that there are always an abundance of players to choose from to create fairly matched games. I think the amount of playlists there right now is fine

Or they want to make sure they have plenty of free content…

That or they spend way to much time on getting warzone to work and neglected everything else.

come on you don’t really want a playlist or data or pre/post game lobbies or medals chest or… I could go on. That would be asking way too much (insert sarcasm)

Assault and Oddball are literally coming out in a week, and why do we need KOTH when strong holds is so similar? Doubles and snipers had low populations, so why would they keep them in? Sure breakout and FFA have low population but I doubt they will remove a playlist that has been in from launch. You’re probably one of those people that thinks 343 holds back content to milk warzone, which makes absolutely no sense.
