Why Halo 5: Guardians isn't THAT bad

Alright. before you guys go ham in the comments section, read it ALL. And remember this is opinion. Not fact.

First of all, I do NOT believe Halo 5 is the best Halo game. In fact, it is one of the worst. It feels like they were catering to generic FPS games by adding ADS, Ground Pound, and left stick sprint to the Halo Series. A few other things that made this game pretty crappy at launch are things like no Infection, no Firefight, no Forge. And there are things still wrong with it today. No Splitscreen, a TERRIBLE campaign, REQ system, and Infection kinda sucks. And let’s not forget month of mythic. But I am not here to talk about bad things 343i and Microsoft did in the making of Halo 5. I’m here to talk about the good things.

  • First up: Multiplayer. (Arena)Multiplayer is very important in the Halo Franchise, as it has been very competitive since Halo: CE. Halo 5 executed multiplayer very well and made it so that the game was balanced and fun, even for new players. Except for me, when I got the game I was trash at it. Eventually you learn how the game plays and you start doing better. Like all Halos, the multiplayer is skill based as you have to learn when to use certain weapons, be more accurate than the person (or people) you’re facing, learn weapon spawn times, learn the maps, and even learn how to use the boost efficiently. This makes Halo 5’s Arena multiplayer very fun and well made out, even though some maps are very alike.
  1. Warzone:

With Warzone, you either love it or hate it. I like it even though I miss Invasion from Halo:Reach, I like facing Bosses and Spartans alike, and I like using awesome power weapons like the SPNKR em, The End, and the Halo 2: BR. This game mode also allows you to use vehicles like Ghosts, Banshees, and Scorpions. And the best part is that these vehicles have different variations to suit your needs at that point in time. Although without a good team, Warzone Firefight can be very difficult (especially prometheans),but can be very fun Assassinating the Warden Eternal, or shooting as many grunts as possible in a short amount of time. And you can even use different kinds of Loadout Weapons (ARs, BRs, Magnums, etc.) to give you the upper hand in combat.

  1. Forge:

Forge is now very sophisticated and has many different tools and scenery to make maps just like a map maker could. And now you can even include legendary weapons such as Prophets Bane and Jorge’s Chaingun, to make the game types more interesting. 2 weeks ago I was playing Halo 3 and Halo CE maps, and yesterday I played a Rainbow Six Siege map with destructible barriers to breach through. Parkour maps, Duck Hunt, and all the fun things I did in Reach make this game twice as fun as it would be without forge.

Alright, that kind of wraps it up. Thank you for reading, and remember that this is opinion. Comment what you think made Halo 5 awesome and remember, Don’t Hate, Just Relate.

i Agreed with what you said about arena. I enjoy that each weapon has a clear purpose and how tight the controls are

Even though the campaign is a little lacking, it still has one of the best level designs. Giving you Multiple and creative ways to complete that level. Giving you access to weapons and always having a spartan team with you that you can control in single player.

Warzone my opinion is the same as yours OP but also it allowed us to see variations of weapons we may of never seen. The amount of req’s and vehicles really pushes what yo can toy with. And now all of it is in Forge, like dang, that’s a lot of stuff to play with.

My biggest positive though is no paid DLC. I hate that more then anything. It splits the community to much. I will take the REQ system over that any day. The REQ system can be improved upon though, don’t get me wrong, but ill take this over paid DLC forever.

Forge is the best forge hands down and with the addition of it on PC we may see Custom games mixing with xbox and PC who knows. I am excited for the future.

Also personally I enjoy the spartan abilities. I wouldnt mind if they kept all of them because they make the game really fun. but if they took out some I only hope they leave in clamber, thruster, and sprint. These need to stay in the game.

While I agree with all your points, there are so many forums like this that I’m pretty sure 343 understands what we like or don’t like at this point

Arena: Not much variety in the game types.
Warzone: Nothing interesting other than A.I. being in the multiplayer for the first time in Halo.
Forge: Bad control designed for controller, but I commend Forge team for expanding the variety and diversity in the Forge pieces.

Gameplay mechanics are the disappointment of Halo 5 and garbage systems, such as Requisition, CSR, and progression, ruined the game as a whole.

Why are you talking in your post like you are better than everyone at Halo? Also you are a new player. You only have 2 days of game time. That is not enough to draw a conclusion. Play at least 5 days before people might take your opinion seriously.

Is 48 hours of playtime not enough to have a well-grounded opinion? I feel like that’s enough time to know what your talking about.

It’s really not. He is still in the honeymoon stage.

I would like to say that AI was in Halo: Reach’s cooperative firefight modes, and have you recently played Halo 5? There are many different arena game types such as Breakout, Doubles, 4v4 Slayer, Strongholds, BTS, BTCTF, FFA, Covenant Slayer, Infection, Grifball, and that’s only 11 of them (there are DEFINITELY more).
I addressed the bad gameplay mechanics before I even started the good things about Halo 5 so…

Playlists is what I think he meant(though I could be wrong).

  • Slayer
  • Team Arena
  • Breakout
  • Doubles
  • Action Sack
  • Infection
  • BTB
  • Griftball8 playlists, with team arena, BTB, and action sack having multiple game types, but still nowhere near Halo Reach or Halo 4.

The objective of these game modes are essentially the same. All of them are Slayer based game type. You can’t play Strongholds or Capture The Flag individually. This game lacks diverse objective game types, other than killing.

The game is really fun, Amazing forge maps and possibilities, Custom games are always fun, playing competitive is always fun, But there are a lot of bad things in the game I hope they touch up on in H6, mostly the crappy campaign, the UI is bad, the AI is horrible, IMO spartan charge breaks the Halo gameplay, The Zoom in feature (mostly for the sword). thats pretty much all i can think of atm.

Like I said, those aren’t ALL the game types.

Maybe I misunderstood game modes and game types. However, it does not change my opinion on Halo 5 is lacking diversity.

Although I heavily disagree with your assesment of arena, I am quite impressed by Halo 5’s forge. The sheer content and options available to the player make this forge very well designed. However, I am still uninterested in playing Halo 5’s forge due to reasons unrelated to the gamemode itself. The lack of splitscreen means me and my friends can no longer have creative and fun battles with each other using a variety of weapons and vehicles and the art style makes all the buildings and structures look very fake, which cheapens the experience as well.

Playlists?

arena
slayer
Swat
doubles
breakout
btb
ffa
infection
action sack
grifball

thats 10 in arena playlist

then the 3 in warzone modes as well.

I used to like Warzone, then it turned into a farm fest. Achilles armor is literally the CANCER of Halo 5. No exaggeration, no joke. Warzone used to be my favorite mode, now it’s my least favorite. It’s almost always a one sided snowball of chaos. Hardly anyone ever targets the bosses anymore.

Oh, I forgot about those, and the warzone game modes. But my point still stands, in terms of diversity, Halo 5 is on the weaker side compared with the past three Halos(besides MCC and ODST).
