We know, the fantastic Halo 5 game, the game we all love and sometimes hate. but i have to say, WhY diD 343 industries think it is a good idea to put the AR in 36 rounds?
its feels like off from the normal 32 mags round. Maybe they wanted a change to the assault rifle, but why must it be 36? or something else. i think when they change it, it makes the BR only more accurate than the assault rifle, but why 36?
can anyone like explain or discuss with me? :))
and when Halo 5 have the 36 rounds, why have it to be max 216 bullets. It sort of make me feel the halo games have less and lesser ammo to play it in the long runs. like Halo 3, makes it around 352 ammo, while the reach became 288 max, and later becomes 224 in Halo 4, and now 216 and onnly have 36 in the the mags. Why? v:
Lets discuss this nicely d:
I don’t think the ammo is too much of an issue. I think the bigger problem is how little damage it seems to do. It feels like Halo 5 got an upgraded Reach AR. Halo 4’s AR was king and what it should always strive to be, it felt like it actually packed a punch rather than shooting foam darts.
Go for headshots with the H5 AR after depleting the shields, that gun is quite good actually. Because of the spread, I find it harder to use than the magnum but still usable at close/close-mid range, even in full auto.
Problem is that the H5 magnum is insanely good at all ranges and there is not much need for other guns except power weapons.
i am personally VERY bad at the AR and i usually blame it because of the ammo counter ( because i always think that 36 rounds = lesser damage per bullet )
i stick myself with BR
im bad with every single weapon except for shotgun and precision weapons like BR

The rework (nerf) 343i did with the Halo 5 AR is something I just could never get behind. It’s cool headshots deal more damage but that extra damage coming at the cost of making body shots do even less than they did before, nah, that’s a hard pass for me.
Halo 4 treated it like the close quarters weapon it was, get up close and light’em up. Now you’ve gotta micro manage the aim even in CQC just to pull off passable damage. An AR is supposed to be used to target center mass, it is fundamentally not designed to be a precision weapon. Don’t get me wrong though, it’s not unusable. It’s just not as fun, nor is it as good as it’s crippled H5 vanilla counterpart.
If I want to play precision I have plenty of other weapons to use such as the Magnum, Battle Rifle, DMR, Sniper, Carbine, Beam Rifle, Light Rifle, Binary Rifle, and whatever other ones I missed. There isn’t nearly that many alternatives for anyone that just wants to spray and pray, especially options that are readily available and not energy based. I’d say 343i has an obsession with precision weapons, but we already know the real reasoning behind it.
That rework is another reason why I don’t like Halo 5’s multiplayer. 343i has gone beyond bending over backwards to exclusively follow sweat feedback to the point the AR got butchered even further than it already was. The only question I’ve got for 343i now is when will they realize that sweats will not be happy until every single miniscule factor of gameplay is bent exclusively in their favor.
The design focus should’ve been aimed at making gameplay elements fun and not catering every little detail to what some streamers say.

I completely agree with you. I always wanted an AR that can shred in a CQB and not that half-precision gun that is in H5. Sadly I only joined H5 after all the reworks/rebalancing. Maybe they’ll get it right in Infinite.
Good write up matey
halo ar rework was a complete sham

Here is a list with the ammo capacity for different version of the Assault Rifle throughout the Halo history.
- Halo CE - Ammo cap: 660 shots / 11 clips - Clip size: 60 shots - Reserve: 600 shots / 10 clips - Halo 5 (Assault Rifle + Extended Mag / Patrol Case Armor Mod) - Ammo cap: 594 shots / 11 clips - Clip size: 54 shots - Reserve: 540 shots / 10 clips - Halo 5 (Assault Rifle / Patrol Case Armor Mod) - Ammo cap: 396 shots / 11 clips - Clip size: 36 shots - Reserve: 360 shots / 10 clips - Halo 3 - Ammo cap: 384 shots / 12 clips - Clip size: 32 shots - Reserve: 352 shots / 11 clips - Halo 5 (Assault Rifle + Extended Mag) - Ammo cap: 324 shots / 6 clips - Clip size: 54 shots - Reserve: 270 shots / 5 clips - Halo Reach - Ammo cap: 320 shots / 10 clips - Clip size: 32 shots - Reserve: 288 shots / 9 clips - Halo 4 (Assault Rifle / Ammo Tactical Package) - Ammo cap: 288 shots / 9 clips - Clip size: 32 shots - Reserve: 256 shots / 8 clips - Halo 4 (Assault Rifle) / Halo 2A - Ammo cap: 256 shots / 8 clips - Clip size: 36 shots - Reserve: 224 shots / 7 clips - Halo 5 (Assault Rifle) - Ammo cap: 252 shots / 7 clips - Clip size: 36 shots - Reserve: 216 shots / 6 clipsSomething which is interesting to see with the standard Assault Rifle is that it has seen a downwards trend in terms of its ammo capacity since Halo CE. However, it’s also interesting to see that Halo 5 has the second largest ammo capacity for any given Assault Rifle in the Halo history if you combine the Assault Rifle with Extended Mag with the Patrol Case Armor Mod.

i feel somehow Halo game developers lowered the ammount of ammo everytime they make a new Halo game, is it because we usually used the same weapon?
because i barely survived in Halo 3 Legendary with my starting weapons on Sierra 117

The idea is that you don’t have to carry the default weapons or should be more open to picking up different weapons, especially on Legendary difficultly.
Halo is all about adapting to the combat scenario that is in front of you. I’ll gladly ditch my AR for a plasma pistol or a needler any day.
because i am VERY bad at the other weapons, ( except trigger finger weapons ) i usually like the AR and the BR XD
but i feel using the needler is such a trash, can’t enough damage which uses up many ammo
plasma pistols is good tho, i remembered that one overcharged plasma pistol would kill a grunt in Halo CE
I never even noticed they added ammo. I’m sure they added ammo because of damage, spread, and aim down sights. Maybe they added ammo because they thought they could.
