Why Halo 4's grunts are the greatest.

  • They try to climb onto a Warthog and find out what the heck it is in Spartan Ops.
  • They take cover the least than any other Covie.
  • They are without a doubt, adorable and hideous. Hidorable.
  • They run with the tiniest legs.
  • Fuel Rod Cannon and Needlers spam happy!
Did I miss anything? Was I wrong? Did another Halo game pull off there hid-orable antics better?

I haven’t noticed their methane tanks blowing up and causing them to shoot around.

I miss having grunt fireworks.

H4 missed a beat with the methane tanks, that was so cool in reach.

Why remember Reach, when you can remember the methane tanks on Reach?
I too miss methane tanks…

Those were in Cinematics. Bungie grunts were the best in-game, in easter eggs, and in cinematics.

Also, no Bane grunts=nope. I will say that I enjoyed those little cutscenes, especially the one when the Hunter smacks the grunt like a boss.

I’d say the Grunts were either the best in CE or Reach.

I miss the stupid stuff they used to say…when and why did the covenant stop speaking english?

> I miss the stupid stuff they used to say…when and why did the covenant stop speaking english?

Ha! I remember if you put the IWHBYD skull on Reach and you listen to sleeping grunts, some will say “Funny, but I dream in English.”

Are you being sarcastic op?

Anyways, positives and negatives.

Positives:

-343i obviously <3 Grunts (dancing Grunts, cheering Grunts, huge amount of kamikaze Grunts in E5C5, 19 Grunts set up to be splattered during the Ghost run, Hogs dropped on Grunts in SO cinematic, Grunts inspecting Hogs in SO cinematic, Grunt getting swatted aside by BA Hunter in SO cinematic)

-Grunt Birthday Party

-kamikaze Grunts are a bit more convincing. They don’t run straight at you. Now they have a little strafe

-Grunts that somehow manage to survive kamikaze lack animations and still charge at you, making them act zombified

-Needler supercombine capability makes them more intimidating

Negatives:

-no English
-no traditional talking Grunt easter egg
-methane tanks don’t come off
-methane tanks don’t explode like in Reach (though I found it heinous), there were a lot of wtf moments from it)
-perverse anatomy
-lack of animation variety
-no sleeping Grunts until Spartan Ops until Episode 6
-no Grunt collections :frowning:
-no Grunt kamikaze trains
-Catch skull doesn’t turn enemies into grenade throwing monsters on Easy = no Grunt collection grenade spam

Haven’t played a Halo game before Reach(I played at another dude’s house) so this post is coming off as noobish as of now. Sorry!
I am aware of the IWHYBD skull effects though. Payed a trip to Halo Nation to read the quotes and that was enough to make me laugh.
Seeing these guys as Storm Covenant though, I doubt we’ll be seeing English grunts for a while.

Don’t forget that even the standard grunts do little methane boosted jumps. I love it when they do that, especially when you headshot them mid-jump and they rag-doll around.

They look cute from behind when they run because it looks like they’re waddling.

I missed it when Grunts actually looked like arthropods. I mean, it’s okay to retcon things here and there, but to change something from arthropodic to nearly mammalian? That’s just weird. Grunts aren’t supposed to have buttocks!

Old gruntbutt
New gruntbutt

While I agree these are the best, I do miss English Grunts.
“That was my best friend!” Lol!

If they spoke English Op, if they spoke English.

Man that made me laugh so hard! Anyways, Halo 2 grunts were pretty funny. “I have a bad feeling about this”“You have bad feelings about the food nipple” Hilarious. Also, Reach got the death animations right.

> While I agree these are the best, I do miss English Grunts.
> “That was my best friend!” Lol!

Even better…
“You killed Poonflip! The flippiest poon I ever knew!”

The grunts were far better in Halo Combat Evolved where they and the eleted had funny lines to say. And the ones which carried the exploding canons werent to messed with at close range. Also the grunts in CE looked better. In Halo 4 they look as if they are wireframe modles wearing cloth for skin, whereas in CE they actually looked real.

That too.

They’re also more lifelike than the other Covies, which got a major downgrade i.e. lack of convincing behavior/animation.

They sound awesome
