this is why i think halo 4 was terrible compared to other halo games, nothing against 343, just pointing out their mistakes
1:LOADOUTS
2:SPRINTING
3:spartan laser sucks
4:campaign was short, disapointing, had no vehicle-based levels(pelican doesnt count in my opinion)
5:removed all the really good weapons in halo like brute shot, plasma rifle(replaced with a useless storm rifle that does next to nothing), an actually decent spartan laser
6: kept AAs
7:PERKS
8:dmr was a bit too op
9:most of the weapons were horrible
10:too low vehicle health
11:told you where power weapons were instead of you having to find them yourselves
12:no brutes
13:HORRIBLE MCvsDidact fight, make it an actual fight in halo 5, also to anybody who hasnt realized this yet, hes still alive.
14:misled people with interactive events in first level but no more after that, make more.
15: what happened to the arbiter that made him go against humanity or why has he lost control of the elites?
16:focused too much on cortana, not enough on MC
ill be editing this post with more soon probably
Why is this post on the Xbox One forum?
I don’t usually give these threads much notice but I’m feeling chatty today.
Here we go:
-
Debatable. This forum’s still having constant arguments on whether or not load outs can work. Once they’re as universally hated as Armour mods and Flinch then I’ll believe that this is a major issue for Halo as a whole. But specifically Halo 4’s load outs? They were an absolute mess, I can see that 343 had a good idea and took steps to get it to work but in the end there were just so many things that screwed it all up.
-
Sure. It might be fixable but I don’t care enough about Sprint to give it another chance.
-
I guess the Splazer could have been better.
-
Didn’t bother me, I thoroughly enjoyed the campaign.
-
We got a lot of good stuff too like the buffed AR and Rail gun. Those were pretty cool. But yeah if the SR actually behaved like a plasma weapon that would’ve been nice.
-
I’m still on the fence regarding AAs.
-
Agreed. I’d like to see Armour mods gone too.
-
It wasn’t just the DMR. The way the load out options were balanced as whole was a mess when it could have been done much better
-
A lot of Halo 4’s weapons were pretty fun IMO.
-
Tougher vehicles would be nice.
-
I didn’t really mind the weapon indicators. It encourages map movement in a way that doesn’t require the player to know the map layout off by heart. It lowers the skill gap but it allows everyone to play the game while not diminishing the experience all that much.
-
A good Halo game doesn’t need Brutes.
-
In the long run the final confrontation with the Didact will only make the real boss fight where we really kill him all the more enjoyable.
-
You want more of that? Ok then.
-
Yeah that was kinda weird but as someone who reads the books it doesn’t really affect me on a personal level but I’m aware that it’s a problem.
-
Disagree 100%.
Done.
TL;DR Version- “Halo 4 was bad because it was bad.”
That’s not to say we need yet another thread discussing why loadouts are bad for Halo’s style of competitive multiplayer, but a few of your points are pretty out there, and with little to no explanation. Sprawling, overly vague list threads just really aren’t much use to anyone.
> 15: what happened to the arbiter that made him go against humanity or why has he lost control of the elites?
Controlling an entire species that spans multiple worlds isn’t exactly easy. Especially when they’re having turbulent times with their religion and culture.
Halo 4 had the potential to be an amazing game, but it was 343s first halo game and they will learn form their mistakes plus Halo 4 was rushed and was not finished it was released early than it should have.
Good thing Halo is being released in 2015 I want them to take their timr on this one and 2 years is very good take your time 343
My view of why it was bad is simply because it was cluttered. From the aesthetics, story, and gameplay, I felt there were many ideas thrown in that weren’t really thought through and tested until it was probably too late. There was a troubling prospect even before it’s release that they were designing the game to be more accessible to players of other games, which is up there with game industry terms like “focus groups” which makes a game less of an art and more like a product to make a quick buck.
There was an episode of the web series, Extra Credits, that talked about the idea of Failing Faster. After watching it, I felt that Halo 4 was one of those games where they spent so much time conceptualizing new ideas that they didn’t properly test it until everything else was built around the new stuff. Of course, I doubt 343 would say anything was bad about Halo 4 or confirm this for obvious reasons, but those are my feelings and speculation after playing it.
The Arbiter is fighting against insurrectionists who don’t want the truce with humanity. A lot of his story is featured in the books.
No disrespect but this is probably the worst list I’ve seen yet. It looks like you got about 4 points and then got stuck. I mean how does no brutes make Halo 4 a terrible game. What relevance do they have to to with the story? Having them for the sake of having them would be down right stupid.
I mean half of these points are so little and don’t even add up to be anything significant. I mean who buys Halo to use the Spartan Laser. Many points are pretty much the same thing or are the result of another point and ignorance.
What bothers me is that you didn’t even mention some of the most important problems in Flinch, Ranks ect.
- Yes, there was too much put into them, but I liked that I could choose my primary.
- I agree.
- Sucks how? I think it’s fine, not too easy to aim and powerful.
- I was very pleased with it. Second half of Infinity was pretty much vehicle run.
- No reason to have Brute shot when there is no Brutes. The hammer was already a “wat” moment for me. I liked the weapons.
- They are more fun in customs and campaign.
- I agree.
- Was, but it’s not anymore. Unless you try to Br it from the other side of the map
- Didn’t you kinda already tell us this?
- Well, not sure what to think. More of a problem for the vehicles was PP and PG.
- I don’t really care which way it is.
- No need for them in this game. And I don’t like to fight against them so I liked it. Maybe they’ll come back soon to the games.
- A fight? I didn’t even expect us to get to “fight” him. And how would have Chief been able to? Talk him to death? And I’d like to see how Assault rifle works against Didacts armor.
- With interactive events you mean the consoles and such? I think there was a couple in the second level. And I wasn’t mislead.
- Why would have Arbiter gone against humanity. And when was he in control over all of the elites.
- Disagree. Halo 4 was about Cortana’s rampancy and getting her to Halsey, stopping Didact came as a mission during that. I think it focused on Chief pretty much too. We saw him grow as a character. The next game will most likely be much more about Chief. I think we’ll see him broken after losing Cortana and it will give him much more character.
I like Hslo 4. An improvement on Reach. though halo 3 is my favourite. But to be honest I don’t think there is a market for the kind of ranking system and arena based gameplay of halo 3 so much anymore. Times have changed. I have had great fun playing halo multiplayer across different halo games, and I am sure I will continue having fun on the next one.
It’s against the rules to necro-post here …
oh wait, this is new? Seriously, how many times? How many? We get it.
Also, the post should have just been summed up like this (to prevent redundancies): Here is why Halo 4 was terrible: because that is my opinion.
> 12:no brutes
When Halo 4 was announced at E3 2011, I didn’t really expect there to be any Covenant in Halo 4 at all.
> Halo 4 had the potential to be an amazing game, but it was 343s first halo game and they will learn form their mistakes plus Halo 4 was rushed and was not finished it was released early than it should have.
I blame Microsoft. Not 343 Industries.
Exactly Microsoft made them push Halo 4 out early then it should have cause Microsoft wants money. Hopefully Microsoft sees now they should give Halo 5 a 2 year development period.
Release Halo 2 anniversary this year then Halo 5 late 2015.
> ill be editing this post with more soon probably
Please don’t add anymore to this. If there isn’t going to be any real explanation of why you think these points need to be made then, in my opinion, it is a waste of time to be said. I appreciate real thought put into a created thread. Especially one that has been talked about since Halo 4’s inception. Don’t get me wrong you have every right to voice your opinion, but there’s a lot to be desired here with amount of effort.
> But to be honest I don’t think there is a market for the kind of ranking system and arena based gameplay of halo 3 so much anymore. Times have changed.
Huge disagreement on that one. I hold up this thread’s existence for evidence: Ideal Halo 5 Ranking System. Also google Halo 5 ranking system, and you will see many other discussions pop up that are talking about similar things. Just look at most of the comments from the videos that were posted on the thread, it is mostly about a hope that Halo will go back to arena based and the ranking system of old.
I could post why it was terrible, but it will take an age and it’s all been said before. Main reasons though: Sprint, no in-game ranking system, bad maps, no descoping, loadouts…
> 12:no brutes
That’s a good thing. Elites are much more fun and interesting to fight. Brutes are just bullet sponges. Gameplay-wise, the uninteresting bullet sponge enemy role was filled by Promethean Knights anyway.
Your points were generally correct, OP, but your delivery wasn’t that great.
I agree mostly. I would have also added how they completely destroyed the competitive aspect of the game… I desperately want the 1-50 ranking system back!
