Why Halo 4 was a lie.

> You’re beating a dead horse, OP. I’m not saying that you’re wrong, but it’s been said thousands of times before.

Good. Perhaps if we say it 1,000 times more 343 will act accordingly.

I just don’t like the 40m radar, the 25m radar seemed better suited for gameplay!

Lag is a major problem.

Biggest lie they told us was that Spartan Ops was included in the game. What they forgot to say is that you needed Xbox Live Gold to play it. Screwing all the offline gamers there, at least they should have got the first 5 episodes…

If they’re offline they should be able to unlock it without getting caught. However, they still get cheated out of the second half of the season.

I don’t want to sound like a Negative Nancy, but it won’t surprise me one bit if the Nex-Gen Halo title ends up being a disappointment too.

Yeah there are things there I would not want. I rather not have that exact list of changes.

I didn’t expect so much positive reaction i do thank you all and apologize for my tardiness.

The expectations were in all of us for this game, where 343 did give us what we wanted, halo in a new brand form and glory, a larger fan base were disappointed not by the game, but the long-run of the game. The game itself is amazing. I’d find myself buying Halo 5 for the story, which is why i’ve always enjoyed the game. Multiplayer grew on me from halo 3 and I too blame myself for putting the expectations of the game too high.

Halo’s multiplayer was built on the foundation of, If you play ranked, you play against people of similar skill, and make those skill levels hard to attain so that when you are placed, the rank mattered because it wasn’t easy to attain. If you played social, your rank didn’t matter it simply found whoever whenever to fill your match regardless of your rank, although it did prefer people with more average games, which is fair.

I definitely agree with you on the aggressive tininess of the maps in halo 4. I don’t say that lightly. I enjoyed most of the maps for a decent while before it just seemed like the maps were just slowly eating my excitement to play on them away, especially in modes like infinity slayer where respawns for instant. I did expect alot more, it wasn’t until the forge playlist where i said to myself, damn i like these maps.

Action sack was an incredible playlist in halo 3 because it had a large amount of games, that were actually, random and enjoyable, in halo 4 we got remixed slayer types that were only fun the first few times they were voted 3 times in a row because you could count them on your fingers. This playlist could have evolved greatly but instead it was introduced and left, like the other playlists. Does anyone remember Zues? I hated that game but it was actually fun… not more fun than dodgeball !

Multi Team is hectic in it’s own sense, nothing like the old multi-team basically because of what you said before, how tiny the maps are. The big maps that we do have aren’t even fun imo. Ex. Complex, King of the hill is the worst on this map all i get are teams Dmr’ing the hill across the map because the hill zones are out in the open. It’s true again that they introduced the playlists and left them to rot with 1-3 gametypes.

Sir, the main thing that Irked me in this game, was the fact that split screen was very un-enjoyable. Especially on maps that started with “Generating Lighting” It was at this point that no friend ever came over my house or I went over there and , “Let’s play halo” stopped coming out of mouths. Because it was simply unplayable, with a straight disregard to players this punch in the gut is the reason why you never see guest(3 and 4) anymore. I agree the game looks fantastic, but at what cost? Graphics should never be over gameplay, considering that halo 5 will be on xbox 1, this (hopefully) won’t be a problem anymore, because it’s not fair to make people go out and buy a 2nd or 3rd copy of a game just so they can enjoy the game with friends.

Halo may be a dead horse to some, but there are still others who wish to see it shine, even if they can’t fix today’s problems theres always looking forward to tomorrows, in this instance, halo 5, it can have so much going for it only if they do the right thing, which myself, and most of the others here are hoping for.

Firefight brought a new and amazing gametype to halo, which is what the players wanted, relentless assaults from the enemy, if you diddn’t beat them in time, well, more were incoming, if you ran out of ammo, you were kinda screwed if you diddn’t manage it or never learned how to use the enemies weapons. It also allowed you to hear, “killionare” more often. This gametype reintroduced with world wide leaderboards would be amazing. Also, I believe this should be the only gametype (or if they reintroduce spartan ops) That you are allowed to pick a custome load-out and starter armor abilities by default. Since they are introducing new spartans, these spartans could level separately also.

It’s true that there is no better name, but for my point of reaching the cap so quickly you would have guessed they would add more spartan classes and not leave you at mastery at the random number of 130. In fact when 343 mentioned the release of more, they actually just meant that they were gonna release it for the people who diddn’t preorder or played within the 2 weeks time of release, which was rather dissappointing but what can you do.

The radar was personally my opinion and many would rather disagree with me, I found that playstyles were quickly streamlined when the radar introduced the higher or lower blip. This kept you on your toes and required you to effectively watch your surroundings rather throw grenades immediately.

You have a good point about the cuncussion rifle, it’s definitely not a brute weapon, but a weapon of brute origin, just a slight remake and nerf of the brute shot, which was a underused weapon but enjoyed by the many who used it, the brutes need to return. As so their weaponry.

The UI was a big thing that the entire community wanted, but it made everything feel sluggish, the UI options were slim and doing simple tasks were just a tad bit harder. The options we got were incredible, seeing your opponents spartan, having your own stance, but most of the community just wanted to be able to hold a weapon of their choice with their spartan. This could be another thing that would have increased gameplay, having certain kills with a weapon allowed you to have your spartan hold that weapon on your card. Which yes was a great improvement, but wasn’t anything great because of how limited it was.

I have time for a few more gripes that i wanted to add but couldn’t because of Character count.

Hit Indicator
This is a big thing againts the competitiveness of halo that changed the playstyle of many players, which is the hit indicator, the thing where this mainly plays is split second decisions in combat, “ok, he’s slightly wounded i throw my grenade, did it hit him? should i go in there? were both fairly close to death, oh, my grenade did hit him he must be one shot!” This factor kills me, the fact that you know if your grenade has hit your opponent.

The Bump when you get hit -_-
I don’t know the exact name of this, but when you get shot, you don’t lose your scope instead your forced to stay in sight and hurts your ability to fight back effectively especially if your opponent that is shooting at you is actually beside you and the your target across the map. Returning to the original would be great.

Loadouts
First in halo history, Hopefully last in competitive. Games that give players choice are not competitive. The job of competition is to make the rules, these rules are simple, and elegant, such as maps and weapon placement. Allowing players to choose what their starting gear and grenades completely eliminated everything halo competition stood for. This is something that should have been left for Firefight and Spartan ops. Where choice against the covies makes a spartan happy. I mean comon, the bolt shot? really? So much power of choice

I actually really like custom loadouts in Halo because we’re no longer at the mercy of 343 or Bungie’s idea of what we should spawn with. H2 SMG starts, H3 AR starts, Reach AR/pistol starts…I’m looking at you.

There are many things I could want in halo, There are many things many people wouldn’t agree with that I want, which is why the community is here. To help improve the game with options that increase it’s longevity.

The main thing i want is for goals that aren’t beyond reach, rewarding, and actually matter

This comes from the extreme focus that the commendations in halo 4 sucked, and were punishingly unrewarding at times. For Example, I maxed out my BR at 2k xp before 50, which lost me of 10k experience because i had to leave the game and choose a specialization after the game. No biggy, it was only 10k. But when I hit 130, I hadnt even completed 40% of my commendations, which Most I worked really hard to complete.

Leaderboards are a games reason for players to work hard and not die 100 times to complete goals these days. Imagine how different spartan ops would be if it came with a world wide data save of how many points you had per episode, which let you know who the top player is among you and your friends, and the world? In halo 4 there is no reason to be on top, for there is no visible reason to prove that you are better. Which is what alot of players said when they found out, oh, if i win or lose i still get the same amount of xp? oh, only a 500 more? giggles. It doesnt change the fact that halfway through the game people still quit, which is when the join in progress typically stops finding you players.

Commendations that are basic, fun, and rewarding. Get X kills with every gun in the game is cool, but Get a Triple kill with a pistol, How many times have you killed 2 people with one sniper shot, how many shots you dodged with thruster pack, flight mileage with the jet pack. Things like these introduce a reason to play the game for fun, and typically die doing notoriously noobish things, which is actually what makes a game fun. And allow the main players to still focus on things they want. Covenent weapon sprees? Scorpion overkills? How many times you saved your scorpion from a hijack grenade? This stuff sounds little and modest, but many things like these that are either rare or often occurences, add up in a players profile, which your spartan wants a resume of greatness, not just a picture and a 130 mastery.

Interactive Playlists
Let’s be real here, You introduced playlists one by one, it took us months to have everything we wanted. Then when we had it, you left it alone, never to be touched again. You left team slayer with infinity and pro, nothing fun and exciting and new. You left objective with basic flag king and ball games. You introduced action sack with 5 games that were utterly crap, excuse me. Which none of these would have, or even are problems, it’s just, you give us the option to vote for three different games, yet they are most and always are the same thing over and over, it’s literally the definition of insanity as we always play the worst of the worst repeatedly, and map size shouldn’t be a concern, you limited the maps so harshly, i look at complex as bigger than some of the maps on big team which would have made great maps on infinity slayer, hell we don’t even see them on multi team. and yes im looking at settler oddly enough. That ish is small.

Fun Community Playlist
You gotta website? Cool, why not introduce community forge into your website into a playlist into the game, maybe im being completely beyond expectations here, but a simple like or not feature could bring in more maps to the game, although, my personal opinion is that you left options and community forge out so players would spit out their cash on your outrageously over priced maps. Players could be allowed to submit maps that would have to pass a simple test, Are spawns correct for this gametype, are there enough spawns for players, and maybe other questions that could be introduced for your automated playlist creator, then it’s put into the rotation, the players play it, the game ends, the players vote, yay or neigh, enough people don’t like it, the map gets removed the author receives a message that it was disproved. Of course that is all through speculation and the commitment of your team that you are shelling out the big dough for, to make your game awesome right?

Leaderboards and old fun gametypes
No i’m not talking about griffball, but you know what, I know plenty people who love that game and i’m sure that gametype deserves it’s own option in the main menu by now… (not really) but a winning leaderboard for the hardcore griffball teams would do this game strong.

Meta-Score, Halo 3s campaign was crap, there i said that too, But it was fun, and enjoyable because of the Meta-Score, playing with a friend to own the covies and brutes was great. This kinda of lost it’s shell in reach but you have a great oppourtunity to return it to its glory, IMO Bungie did what they did to reach so you could Return to the basics, and continue halo 3, Not remake Reach and continue from there, actually, wasnt the DMR an experimental BR? wtf is it doing in 4? This weapon brings in so much hate.

FireFight, You know what was fun? Firefight, you know whats not fun? Spartan Ops. I fear i don’t want to say too much else right now. Firefight brought a brand new exciting way of playing to halo, which bungie improved with doing firefight Versus, which was exciting for those who had competitive friends. But they toned it down and made it loads easier with the armor abilities and the unlimited ammo, well actually the unlimited ammo is what brought firefight down to unplayable for score, competitively at least, considering that you never ran out, and you almost never ran out of lives, also i believe the skulls became streamlined? This just was a no-no.

Return of Bomb, lot’s of players hated it, lot’s of players loved it, it was fun as hell to walk a bomb into the enemy base and blow them the -Yoink- up. Instead you renamed it to griffball… please give us bomb back.

Bring back INVASION
Lots of halo players forgot about this. I for one won’t. In reach we had an amazingly annoying, but very fun gametype called invasion. Which pit 2 teams of 6 split into 3 teams of 2 againts each other, in a campaignish style versus game that had players fighting and rushing to complete a series of goals to win. With some of the new functions and improvements, this could be a brand new amazing gametype all over again! Just don’t put those maps in competitive.

Campaign Maps
Ok, so most will disagree, that areas in campaign be brought into multiplayer, the only reason that i disagree with this is because most of the maps that were in rotation were from the campaign, simple as this, create your 13 maps you usually make, although its a -Yoinking!- game, learn from unreal, have about 50 maps so nobody can complain. Then include areas from the campaign you think would make excellent areas for spartans to compete in a bloody bloodbath in.

Of course, my opinions are by far the expression of many of the people on these forums, simply my own ways which are too small by comparison of all the changes or additions that players would love to see, and literally a small amount of mine. But a step into getting the word out that we want a halo 5 that is beyond expectation with features and a story so well driven and lengthy, that it keeps players continuously coming back for more.

Short and sweet,
Come December, I will be buying a Ps4 to sit alongside my 360. Why? For me, prefered game selection on Playstation, devs seem to think that too and MS not letting me play all the games I bought for my 360 on Xbox One. Which defeats the Xbox One’s name completely.

Ok, OP some great criticism, I won’t comment on what he/she said as I agree with the majority. What I would like to say is, 343, no pressure, but, depending on Halo5 and what direction you take the multiplayer, also decides whether I buy an Xbox One, come, Dec 2014. So good luck on your quest, as I can imagine, I am not the only person feeling this way.

In December I abandon all console gaming for good. Microsoft has irreparably screwed up the XB1 so badly even Halo won’t convince me to buy one.

Like Destiny

I prefer Spartan Ops but since it’s a next gen console I can see us having Firefight and Spartan Ops

Why are you on Waypoint then?

You know i’m not very popular around here. Many people disagree with me. But you know what? I -Yoinking!- love halo 4 out of the box. 343 has been making not needed (in my eyes) but nice improvements to halo 4 a lot lately and it’s gotten much better. That being said i still have issues with the game.

But what your asking for just seems like basically halo 3 again. I have always loved halo for adding new things that change up gameplay. They always went outside the box and i don’t think going with what your saying is outside the box. Halo 4 at it’s core still feels very much like the halo i grew up on.

If you are asking for these changes in a playlist or playlists that’s fine. 343 should do it’s best to support it’s many possible playstyles. But I don’t want your changes to be for the whole game. I Like POD (all though i want it tweaked.) I like having loadouts (but i’d like grenades and secondaries restricted.) I like AA’s they add a whole other level of playing. And i really don’t want any of these gone. So split up the playlists into competitive (yours) and you have to call it casual (mine)As long as both play styles are equally supported i’m fine with whatever happens to halo 5.

^This

Ok…so I really hope I’m not the first guy to point this out.

I agree with the OP except…he’s dead wrong about the motion sensor. That feature to see what level the dot was on was available in halo 2 and 3. I utilized it all the time in those games to kill people on different levels then me, especially finding out where people were in the stairwells of the Headlong map construction base, is a good example.

I really don’t like the 1-50 system from 2 and 3 since it doesn’t cater to the casual players like myself, seriously why should we have to play competitively to get armour we like? I say have an XP ranking system like Reach/4 and a 1-50 system for a competitive playlist
