So before I start, I want to say that I am really tired so if I make a spelling mistake or two, I am sorry.
The UI. Whoever came up with this absurd way of looking at the other players in a match is insane, it has to be the most absurd and space wasting layout I have ever seen in my life. It’s not cool, it’s not simple, it’s cluttered and not Halo. It doesn’t even fit the rest of the UI, it looks like some stupid tablet app. I know this won’t get changed most likely I just want to give my opinion since it’s such a wasteful and inefficient system and maybe someone will think better next time during the development of Halo 5.
Looking at player stats in a game causes your player to stop moving, this was not the case in previous Halo games, and is very absurd and easily fixed.
Ordinance takes the fun out of Halo. Halo has always been a very strategic game, ALWAYS, not as in how you want to work as a team, but in the moment strategy, using what weapons and the environment to your advantage in ever engagement. Obtaining power weapons and knowing when they are gone you know to expect them. The people who know how to play know this and use it fully. With that said the fact that most of the weapons are dropped because someone got a few kills is absurd. Sure they could get a needler or a binary rifle, but the fact remains that doesn’t promote good game play or fun, no rushing for good weapons, no anything. I know this doesn’t amount to a concrete reason against them, but having weapons on the map is what made halo awesome and set it apart from other games in some ways.
Halo 4 is more COD than ever, this is most apparent with the absurd complete copy of the controls from COD, well guess what, this IS NOT -Yoinking!- COD. This is Halo, if the COD controls were in the options, that’s fine, but it’s default. Thanks 343i for catering to COD fans. (hurrr moar moniez).
5.(4 cont.) In addition to the controls, Halo 4 has (as previously stated) always been a strategy game, if you have the right weapons and are good enough, and think fast enough you could wipe out three enemies when they are all coming at you, this is not so in Halo 4, Halo 4 has turned into a first shot wins game, the most boring and skill less type of game on the planet, HURR I SHOT FURST ME WIN. No, Halo is about making your shots count and being smarter than the other player. You die very very fast. The game basically makes it in such a way that you have to play as a team. And honestly in a game like halo that has never been a factor. This just is not Halo.
MAPS ARE TOO SMALL. BRING BACK REAL HALO MAPS.
The Pulse Grenade. Does this thing even do ANYTHING? It has to be the most pointless weapon on the planet and whoever game up with it and set it’s stats is braindead. In fact all the grenades need to be beefed up.
The DMR and the BR.
I know a lot of people will complain about what I have to say. I feel that if you know what youre doing they are both equal in a lot of ways, the BR isn’t perfect at long range, I feel the spread should be less if not taken away all together. The DMR is fine, if you are good you will win a fight, but they must be headshots and you can’t miss a single one. It takes more skill, if you use the BR and complain about the DMR why not just use the DMR? They both are good guns. The carbine on the other hand needs work. I was so excited when I heard they brought it back, and then I got it, it’s a JOKE. Beef it up a little.
Waypoint and Medals.
Medals in Halo 4 (and the point based system) is very much not to my liking, it goes against traditional Halo scoring and is absolutely absurd. Medals are to show skill, not for winning. In waypoint I can’t go see a big list of my medals. Bungie had this right, you’d be wise to follow in their footsteps. The medals in Halo 4 are a joke, the fact that they tie in with winning is limited.
10.Spartan OPs is WAY TOO EASY. I beat them all on legendary very fast. Come on 343 is this how the covenant fights? They are about as aggressive as herioc in reach or less.
Forge maps are way too small, just like ALL the maps in Halo 4, I don’t know if this is due to the engine changes making it too difficult to make the maps larger or what, I don’t know any of the poly budgets or what kind off new things all these engine changes introduced as far as limiting map scale and how much you can have on screen due to said enhancements. So I will let this one go, but just know the forge maps are lame and severely limiting.
Lack of playlists is a major issue and I don’t have much confidence in 343 to bring back good ones like action sack, rumble pit, ect. While I know they will prolly bring back team snipers and SWAT. I wish they would bring back a lot of the ones we know and love. Action sack was fun, it was full of stupid games if you were looking for fun.
Can’t change vote on a map after voting once, change this. Also, the UI sucks. I mean I don’t need everything to take up my whole damn screen, I’m not blind and this isn’t preschool. (just had to say something again)
14.While I’ve always loved sprint, I like how reach did things. If it stays or goes or is slowed down, I don’t care.
Simplicity, this is my biggest issue with Halo 4. One of the largest and most wonderful things about halo in the past has been the simplicity of the game, it separated the good players and the bad, it made the game interesting and fun. While load outs are cool and all that, and I do like them, I feel the fact players don’t work with what’s on the map/start equally it is a negative and detracts from what makes Halo what it is.
16.Damage/health. This isn’t cod.
17.Custom games are severely lacking, I don’t need to go into detail as this is everywhere.
XP cap. Make it higher or remove it.
weapons on map, I just have to say again how I feel that the remove of this core feature of traditional Halo gameplay is saddening and I miss it. Removes the skill and fun of Halo, the race and the added strategy.
Spartan interaction in Spartans ops is as bad or worse than reach (and was the most horrendous part of Reach) All I hear is really stupid dialogue such as “Crimson doesn’t need a science lesson blah blah blah” Spartans are teams that are supposed to have worked together since being kids and don’t say limited stuff. It’s the typical cheesy video game “badass” dialogue that is sickening and the most offensive thing known to man. I honestly cannot understand how anyone in their right mind could ever think this is alright/ have written it. ODST and Reach had some of the worst and most terrible lines and characters I have ever witnessed in my whole life. To see that 343 is continuing that in Halo 4 is a major disappointment. I mean have you read the books or even thought about how terrible the dialogue is and how cheesy it is? I think they only game that has pulled it off well having badass characters is probably Bulletstorm of all games.
21.Emblems locked, this is just dumb, and you (anyone reading) should understand why.
22.Ranks, I miss the reach ranks, now it’s just a number, no cool looking emblems, I mean even Halo 3 had them. Not a big deal, but still lame.
I just want to bring up how kill cams have no place in Halo again.
Armor/character art. This was my biggest issue with the game before I bought it and still upsets me. Leave the covenant alone. 343 has great environmental artists. In fact the art is amazing and well done, and the armor is very well done, but it lacks severely. The only thing I’ll give it is that it’s functional. Most of the armor however (especially the MC’s) is horrendous and the remaking of established characters is pathetic. The jackals look like dinosaurs and the sharks, I mean the grunts… LOOK LIKE -Yoinking!- SHARKS, this is very absurd. The elites are about as menacing as a dead fish. Not to mention how boring and terrible the Promethians(sp?)look, and I mean, really promethians, couldn’t come up with a more creative and less chessy and over used name? They look like walking triangles with legs. And for this 343, I will never forgive you.
Anyway, there is more. But I must go.
There is a lot of work to be done, the game is good, but it could be 1000% better with a little common sense and sticking to the Halo feel.
The list is spot on for the most part. Get ready for all the peeps who will reply omg this game is perfect go play another game. I hope 343 is icing them compensation for all the butt kissing. Halo 4 is good but does need improving.

Intelligent response to constructive criticism. What, you can’t be critical of anything nowadays? The game is good but does need a lot of work. Show some maturity and troll another thread.
> Experts, and the game has been out for 4 days.
>
> Wow.
>
> Give it some time and go play it.
>
> Stop whining.
Dude, unless you are genuinely stupid, it doesn’t take hours of gameplay to see that you disagree with a killcam, the medal system, the fact that you stop running when checking the score, etc.
Maybe you’re right. Do you have a “how to be an expert in Halo 4” guide? I want to complain about the menu system, but I just don’t have enough played time yet to come up with any ideas as to what could be improved.
The maps are a bit too small, I agree. Spartan OPS legendary felt like Halo 3 Heroic… not at all Legendary. Maybe it’s the fact that I can respawn, but still, it wasn’t impossibly hard by myself. It didn’t keep me on my toes like doing Reach by myself did.
Overall, the game needs some polishing that perhaps a Beta might have solved. Alas, we can only hope some of the core issues will be fixed. And I was disappointed that we’ve taken a step towards homogenization with Loadouts and similar button controls.
A lot of that stuff seems to be minor but a good chunk of it is aggravating as well. Some can be avoided in other playlists(like Slayer Pro and hopefully MLG in the future).
UI is very odd. I have to tilt my head to see who I am playing with in the lobby and I never notice when someone else joins.
The lack of Custom Game options and classic custom games like VIP, Race, and Assault is very disappointing.
Man you hit the nail on the bleeding head. Good to see its not only me that thinks the crap they have done to retro this game up from UI to game features is just lameeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
I give them props on campaign, but man the multiplayer is heart breaking. You go from such a high in the campaign and story to freezing screens after matches, terrible layout of UI and this crapola join in progress feature which you can’t toggle off. Add to this the options we could manipulate from halo 2 onwards that you now can’t, and boy have 343 taken 5 steps back.
I rarely reply, but I started my multi-player on xbox live experience with Halo 2. I thought it was a great game, such simplicity that I felt it worked best. It really separated the best from the mediocre and the worst. Levels worked great, maps were big and open as well as some close quarter maps. Everything in Halo 2 was perfect, up until of course the modders. I think though we all have to agree, times have changed. I don’t know if people notice or not, but rarely what we complain about is actually getting fixed if anything it just gets worse, and for some it gets better. Halo has changed and it will not be the same, unless 343 does a remake of Halo 2 and makes it exactly the same as it was multiplayer and all, we will have to make do with what Halo has become or find a new game.
i think halo 4 is a great game. 343i did an AMAZING job. finally halo is fun like it was back in halo 2. Reach was great at launch. but then the forge maps and too much community input ruined it.
Power weapons have always been part of halo, but they have also been one of the many frustrations of halo. Just because something has been part of the game for years does not mean it was a good thing.
keep it up 343i and remember!!! one of the worst things you can do as a gaming company is listen to the whining and make every change the community asks for. Thats what ruins games!!!

join in progress feature is great. it gets rid of the crap we’ve been dealing with for years where if a couple of blue guys leave the game the red team gets to hunt down the remaining team. sometimes matches have to time out etc. thats not fun. but having a new teammate enter in the match when someone leaves so you can continue without a handicap is great
Hey I agree on almost all of your posts. Something you didn’t mention was true skill rank like halo 3. I would also add is VEHICLE DAMAGE-In halo 3 a vehicle did not blow up from bullets only rockets, missle launcher ect. They added in halo reach and halo 4 that it can be blown up by regular shots which is pretty dumb. In halo 3 you die when your health dies. Now people with no skill can just shoot ur vehicle and it can blow.
I agree with almost all of these, however I still think Halo 4 is one of my favorite games. The only things I can add to this list are these…
Some more weapons would’ve been nice…Focus Rifle, Grenade Launcher, Needle Rifle, Plasma Rifle, SMG (Why haven’t they brought this back yet?!?)I don’t really understand the concept of removing weapons…Why not keep them all?
Same applies for vehicles…This game has an astonishing lack of vehicles, probably due to the map issue. Where are the UNSC Air Vehicles? I though the humans were the greatest threat in the galaxy? Some vehicles that should’ve returned are the Revenant, Falcon, Hornet, to name a few.
Also, I know it’s not too big of a deal, but I’d like to see the return of some Armors from Halo 3 and Reach. I’m missing the Mark V, CQB, Commando, and armors myself…
More game modes, SWAT, Snipers, etc…return of Invasion from Reach would be nice, but sadly there are no elites in Halo 4.
Anyone else notice that when forging, the Station pieces on Impact don’t line up? For example, having a few Station 90s with a few Station Ts makes your whole structure not line up. I’d expect Forge pieces to fit together multiple ways.
Honestly, I like Infinity slayer and most of the other features ADDED to Halo 4 (exceptions like auto pickup, killcams, etc.).
What I DON’T like is the features that were taken AWAY from the game (Falcon, Revenant, health meter, custom game options, a large Forging environment that suited many needs, missing game types like assault, and most of all the fact that we can’t have a playlist that includes traditional Halo gameplay (without ordinance and instant respawn but weapons placed on the map).
All in all, I like Halo 4. I just wish we had the options/functions that we had in previous Halo games.
