its Halo…Halo…Halo… what average kid would stroll down the street to gamestop and buy a copy of Halo 4? or GoWJ? Its all about CoD and BF and its gonna stay like that for a long time. people just lose interests in games like halo or GoW. it might be for different reasons. maybe its too easy or too hard. maybe its boring.
back in 07-08…not gaming…but rather Xbox live was a huge breakthrough. people played for fun and enjoyed the newly fresh baked games. developers inserted more effort and pride into the old games. now its more of “moneymoneymoneymoney” and " I want a realistic shooter with ads blood environment etc"
because it was 2007-08. back then people played for fun, all games were new. everyone had a good time. gaming was a newborn baby back in the day. now its over-saturated with fps custom class games
> because it was 2007-08. back then people played for fun, all games were new. everyone had a good time. gaming was a newborn baby back in the day. not its over-saturated with fps custom class games
It continued to do well until Reach came along in 2010. Besides, you mean to say people can’t play for fun in custom class games? I know I did with CoD4 and MW2. Thing is I, along with everybody else, would come back to Halo 3. Map packs, Custom games and special playlists brought us back constantly. Now, Call of Duty seems to be the ones who have cornered those things while Halo 4 decided to have lackluster map packs, Customs and a mess of playlists that really cater to nobody.
Talking about just kids, they have a habit on leeching onto what’s percieved to be the most popular game on the market, the game they should play so that people will consider them “cool” for being “in” with it. Right now it’s Modern Warfare, before now it was Halo, before Halo it was Call of Duty, before Call of Duty it Doom (I think I’m missing one in there).
Not only that, but with the success of CoD, Halo, Fast and Furious and Tranformers, people have discovered the market of the fratboys, or “Dudebros”, who love these franchise for the same reasons as kids do. Because they think it makes them cool and use CoD online like beer, as a form of proof that they’re worth something.
As for gamers relation to Halo, my first guess would be the lack of a local only search option.

What?
Gaming is not new.
Also, what are people playing for now? Food? Water? Someone forcing them to play? I don’t have a man/woman here forcing me to play. If it’s not fun, I’m not going to play it.
Halo 3 was starting to suffer from that problem when COD4 came out.
If you ask me, Gears and Halo need to take a break and let these games run their cycle, then return once they’re dead and buried.
The OP might not be 100% correct, but they do have a point. A lot of people these days literally won’t care about any other game out there because it’s not COD. Developers will always try to make their game cater to such crowds, but it never works. On the bright side, even some of my friends who are hardcore COD fans are saying that they’re getting sick of the games now.

It still did pretty well against CoD4. And Gears 2. And MW2. And CoD: World at War.
(Sorry if this post is confusing)
Military shooters being “in” could be the biggest reason Halo 4 isn’t as popular as previous Halo games, in my opinion. The success of Modern Warfare 2 caused the shooter genre to turn into military shooters, which try to copy CoD.
The audience expects ADS and wanna-be realistic gameplay set in an enviroment very similiar to “real life”. Because Halo 4 still resembles more of old school shooters than a military shooter, they become less interested of the game than before.
The learning curve of the game can also drive people away. It looks like there isn’t a good balance so that both new and experienced players can have fun. New players might think the game is too difficult (Or something is wrong with the game, etc.) but the game doesn’t show a clear “You just dun guuf’d, improve!”. On the other hand, experienced players can find the game to be too easy.
As an issue not related to military shooters, being able to constantly die due to power weapons being handed to enemies all the time can make it too easy for the enemies and too annoying for the players who are being stomped. And unlike in previous Halos, those “less fair” power weapon vs default weapon fights occur more frequently. Add being able to snipe with DRM across the maps very easily and the players will be more annoyed by the game compared to previous Halo games.
That’s my theory anyway. I could be wrong of course - and I most likely am.

I’m not saying that it didn’t, but it the numbers were starting to dwindle over time.

Oh it’s terrible. I have a perfectly suitable connection for online play. My NAT is open. I’ve port forwarded my xbox. An still, I experience excessive game breaking lag in Halo 4.
Because I’m literally forced to play against people that are half way around the world. (I play at night a lot).
All the while microsoft has obscenely more than enough bread to support a dedicated server for the game. And yet they don’t.
And Halo 2 remained number one on the original Xbox from the day it shipped to the day LIVE support was cut. That is truly impressive. What other game mattered?

Well obviously. Every online multiply game experiences that.
I’m willing to bet, though, that Halo 3 had more players in the last legs of its life than Halo 4 has now.
