To start off (before the riots) let me say that although Halo 3 is my least favorite, I still loved the campaign. Now that that’s out of the way I’ll begin.
So Halo 3 was a state of the art game. It came out in 2007 backed by popularity and Halo 2s amazing experience and it gave us a game where you played together with the Arbiter, there was a level where you fought alongside the flood for a brief moment and you basically stopped the covenant. So why do I think its the worst? I’ll start with the enemies. The covenant had always been the elites leading and then it flip flopped. I have no problem with the change in leadership, but I had every problem with how easy the brutes were to kill. I play through all of the campaigns on legendary and am starting LASO runs soon and I’m upset with how easy Halo 3 was. Halo 3 was nothing special at all. It had a lackluster enemy, the campaign was easier, the flood could die in one punch, the chopper and prowler were disasters and the story was relatively hard to follow.
The campaign was about finding the ark and it starts on earth. It did a terrible job explaining that they were looking for the portal and not the ark itself and it bounced around a lot. The campaign felt like you weren’t accomplishing anything until you actually made it to the ark and once you were there it only really picked up in the mission “the covenant” followed by most peoples least favorite missions “Cortana”. Thinking back, the transmissions from place to place weren’t great. Master Chief kills some stuff, turns off a bomb (of the same size and style to the one in Halo 2), to redundant music with little change in style (to Halo 1 or 2) and travels to stop a ring. I think the campaign was necessary to wrap up some important story’s but i think it was done a little distastefully. Why can Cortana and Gravemind talk through Master Chiefs mind? Who knows.
Let me say again. I loved Halo 3, but if you take a long open-minded look at it, it seems like a lot of things thrown together to make a release date in time.
