Why "Guardians" in the Name?

It’s definitely going to be something along those lines I think. The Didact did refer to his race as “Guardians of all that exist” in the monologue at the end. I was also wondering if the map “Guardian” in Halo 3 had to do with it. Also I’m pretty sure the deaths caused by an unkown force in all Halo games are stated as “Killed by the Guardians”. Maybe they were with us this whole time.

Nah, it probably has some deep, deep meaning to it, rather then a subname for a faction. We’ll just have to wait it out and see. I can be a lot of things, really.

The Librarian in H4 refers to the Ancili (AI) that John has, that she planted seeds long ago to lead to that exact moment, she sped up his “evolution” to make him immune to the composer. I’m assuming it’ll go into detail of these “seeds”.

I assume John is one of these “Gaurdian” and with the Didact awaken from his Cryptum, there will be others like John to come forward. Hence “Gaurdian/s/”. We all know that Spartan-IIs were special. Well now the spartan program has advanced so far, that John may still be considered a Super Soldier, but he’s getting old. Washed up some have said. The guy at the beginning of H4 is interrogating Halsey about him.

To keep this “Warrior Mentallity” and drive John for AT LEAST 2 more games as an invaluable asset. He needs to become part of a “faction” of Gaurdians.

Very interesting idea! I never thought about that line Arbiter said having a connection with what the Librarian said. Halo 5: Guardians’ campaign is turning out to have a lot of potential.

Well the Forerunners were known as Guardians of the universe. They may play a huge part in Halo 5.

Im not sure who said it, a female developer, but she commented on the fact that this Halo was called "Guardians"and not 5. At some point you have to stop numbering sequels, she said. “Were not Final Fantasy” Therefore a title gives a indication of the narrative and succesion in the series. Im sure “Guardians” will make a lot of sense once we play it. Persoanlly, OTT, i think it is in relation to the Forerunners.

Halo: Guardians… hmmm i like the idea posted above about there being a number of Guardians coming to rise and protect others. Who they protect is one thing i want to questions as well.
The Guardians of the Mantle might be something as well, that was mentioned very briefly in Halo 4 and i still want to know if that is a real thing or just a title.

To add to my theory, yes, I’m referring to them becoming the “Gaurdians of The Mantle”.

It would make more sense to have multiple “species” hold this title, as shown from the Forerunner, they ended up taking it to the extreme and protecting mainly THEIR well-being.

By having several different species, it would work more as a democracy, concerned more for the overall well-being on the galaxy and not one particular species.

Perhaps Cortana knew this and somehow gave John the coordinates in which we see him arrive at in the first “Halo” teaser for Xbox One. Notice he looks at her chip, looks up at the thing that’s just emerged from the ground, grasp her chip as if saying “Yes. I found it. Thank you”. I assume he had a sort of idea what he was looking for, for he did not seemed shocked nor threatened when it emerged.

However, when he was scanned by the Didact in the first part of Halo 4, he’s confused and “on-guard”, even when the Cryptum releases the Didact, he jumps to safety. Sensing the Didacts intentions.

The Arbiter could possible be a Gaurdian as well as Cortana. We know that the flood were either created by the PreCursor, or ARE the PreCursor in what they turned themselves into.

John, The Arbiter, & Cortana ALL 3 have interactions with the Gravemind and he didn’t assimilate them. However, he had no problem assimilating other humans, elites or even a Prophet & an installations Monitor (2403 Penitent Tangent).

We KNOW we haven’t rid the galaxy of the Flood. Hell, we blew up the Gravemind. Not even anything near as much as what the forerunner or pre-historic human race did.

Perhaps, the Flood (Possible PreCursor) simply left because the threat of the Halo Arrays had been stopped, had they been fired again, everything would have died, except the Didact as he was kept safely in his Cryptum.

The Flood, if they are the precursor, were simply making sure these “Guardians” came to be, and would rightfully take the Mantle from the Forerunner.

The PreCursor realized that a single species holding the mantle was a bad idea, and set this new “Democracy” in motion, perhaps unbeknownst to the forerunner, even using the forerunner to plant seeds to lead to individuals such as John.

One species will, and DID, become power hungry and even states so on Terminal Three in Halo 4 (Level: Infinity), this is said.

Didact: “The humans were not meant to protect others. The Mantle of Responsibility for all things is ours, and ours alone.”

Librarian: “Yes, the Mantle is ours, and we hold it so tight, even in death we shall hold it still.”

Proving the Forerunner held the Mantle so high, that, they, and only the Forerunner shall hold it.

One might say, Guardians of the Galaxy. All jokes aside, it would be cool if it tied into the guardians that kill you when you go out of bounds.

I don’t know who they guardians are. But they sure killed me a lot in Halo CE multiplayer.

I think you took the quote out of context. Here’s the exact quote.

OXM: Why is it called Guardians?

Ross: At some point, we do want to stop numbering. Especially on Xbox One. If I had my druthers, we wouldn’t have called Halo 4 that – we really look at that game as the start of where he’s going. At some point we need to drop the number and still (let you) know you’ve got a big story coming.

OXM: So you could one day do “Halo: Whatever” and it wouldn’t be a Master Chief story?

Ross: It might still be a Master Chief story. I’m just saying, at some point we don’t want to be Halo 17, when Master Chief’s like 80. We’re not Final Fantasy, we can’t do it. She clearly states that, if it were her choice, it would not been called Halo 4. I believe “Halo 6” will probably be the last “Halo” titled game. If it follows my theory, this would make perfect sense, as the start of the Guardians would begine in Halo 5, and be complete in Halo 6. (Halo 6 being the highest number, CONFIRMED title.) I know they mention that Halo 4 spawned the “Reclaimer Saga”, However, a saga does NOT have to be in sequencial order. Thus, we could have a Halo game, being part of this “Reclaimer Saga” that dates back to something that happened previously, either directly to John, or his ancestors in which the Librarian planted the Geas into (Akin to Halo: Reach). Halo 6 essentially, “transcending” John to this omnipercipient being & remain a timeless legend.

At that point, John, along with any others, would be Guardians of the Galaxy and Halo would no longer be a threat, Halo could be dropped from the title. John would become more a legend than he is now. More like the PreCursor or Forerunner were/are.

He would be a legend, his influence still visible on the galaxy, and that even leaves open possible future cameos from him in his new “Guardian” status. It would also avoid having to kill him off, decomision him, or just leave his story open.

we kinda already got that in Reach, if you remember the datapads.

on topic, I think it’ll refer to the shift of the Mantle from Forerunners to humanity. But if they somehow tie in the throwaway “you were killed by The Guardians” from multiplayer, I’d be jazzed.

Perhaps the Gaurdians are a god like force even beyond the forunners. The creators of the universe, fate it’s self.

They have been in the Multiplayer lore since Halo 1. They would make the ultimate enemy as they are basically fate it’s self.

Guardian’s refers to the species that uphold the Mantle of Responsibility and Humanity are next for the Precursors ‘test’.

That sounds like the best line to work with. Is it somehow possible that MC and others have to uphold of the Mantle of Responsibilty?
