Gameplay Is More Important Than Lore
The video link above describes my concern for this topic. Many of you don’t care for the lack of elites (I don’t either really) but i feel as thought game play mechanics shouldn’t be taken out or changed just because of Lore. Of course lore is important. It helps create the unique Halo story that we all know and love today. But that doesn’t mean these story mechanics need to be applied to the online portion of Halo 5. As i mention in the video, I feel their needs to be a fine line between Lore and Halo 5 multiplayer.
I don’t feel like spartan abilities are changing the game that much
Halo needed to evolve and keep up with this fast paced FPS trend and i personally think they went in a good direction
Would you prefer a Halo 4.5? A Halo 3.5?
No matter what they could have done the community would have still been angered by it.
Are they going over board with feeling like a spartan? Maybe a little but its not bad.
People are just mad because its not halo 3 and there’s no playable elites
(When I say “you” I’m talking to the halo community generally)
I thought this was another sprint/spartan abilities/etc thread at first. But your OP reassured me. MP in Halo has never been canon. If it was there would be no Forge World, no action sack, etc. I think 343i removed Elites because they want Halo 5 to be as competitive as possible. Different character models with different hit boxes make the game less competitive IMO.

Elites are removed because of War Games Lore. The idea that everything in halo multiplayer is just a mere training stimulation. 343 are trying to make MPcannon.

That is incorrect. On the contrary, it has been stated that Sangheili have been training with Spartans, called the Anvil Initiative. 343i have not said that it’s lore breaking, only the community.

It’s a mix of both. Though Elites are working with Spartans in training via ANVIL. There’s that ONI Sangheili Agent. War games could have used holograms as well… which is what the War Zone AI pretty much are.
Pretty sure the elite community would riot unless they get Elites as dlc.
Imo “canon multiplayer” just imposes limits on what they can do, it’s like opening a can of worms in a rabbit hole.
It’s always neat when certain things about multiplayer happen to fit the lore but designing the multiplayer from the ground up to be “canon” is lame, imo.
Mass Effect 3’s multiplayer was like that to the point that how much you played the multiplayer actually affected the single player ending (which they later changed, more or less).
Also, fans wanted to play against the collectors so bioware brought them back in a DLC and came up with a sketchy story behind the collectors returning somehow to make it “fit the lore”.
Also you could play as geth and fight against geth which depending on your choices in the series might not make sense and also raises concerns about the time line the MP is supposed to be taking place in.
Then someone pointed out that when you play as a really big character, the size of the guns scale up so a big character using the same gun as a smaller one will have a bigger version of the same gun. I remember reading some kind canon explanation for it on the bioware site or something that and just thinking “wow they are trying really hard with this ‘canon’ stuff”.
Etc. Etc. Etc.
If they hadn’t tried to make the multiplayer canon, and just taken a more “lol its multiplayer” approach, these situations wouldn’t even matter.
You can still find things that fit the Canon and be like “oh that’s neat” but if every detail isn’t expected to fit the Canon then it doesn’t open up that whole can of worms.

I didn’t know that TBH. I only read The Fall of Reach so far. But still I think unless Elites have a real purpose in MP, they do not belong in online matches. Elites in Halo 3 were useless. They only thing they did was make Team Swat unbalanced. Elites will only be relevant in MP if we see a Spartans VS Elites mode like Invasion in Reach. But that isn’t the case in Halo 5. If the only purpose of Elites is a difference in hit boxes I say no thanks.

Meh. Elites weren’t meant for you obviously they were for the community who actually cares about them enough to want them to be added back because they are just as important to the Halo Universe along with the Spartans.

If this is the case then add them into the game lol.

But this trend is just that; A trend. Its a fad, its the new gimmick. And in a few years time its going to make the games feel very, very dated. Halo should be starting new trends by innovating new mechanics, not following the others like a sheep. Halo became King because it made new mechanics, in its Halo 3 days it was still competing with Call of Duty, which is now objectively the king of the FPS Genre. Halo lost its crown when it stopped innovating and started copying.

I thought it lost its crown because other games brought in a wealth of new features, gamers played them, loved them and never went back to Halo. I think people wanted something new and Halo wasn’t quick enough to offer them that though many features people claim Halo copied off COD were in Halo first. It’s not just about what’s brought in but how though. One of the issues Halo 4 had was that it wasn’t a level playing field; someone could get something you didn’t even have the chance to and everyone started with something different. Now everyone starts with the same and has the same access to everything (though this isn’t the case for Warzone)
It’s the same pattern through gaming though, something new comes along and the old is forgotten. So actually it’s probably more complicated than just features.
-_-
Don’t we have enough threads for Elites in multiplayer and “The Great Innovation v. Copycat Schism of 2010-present day”?
We got hotkeys for grenades & melee. A theater mode. And forge. Those are the big Halo innovations. Other than that, it’s a standard FPS. It was just fortunate enough to be the best FPS on Xbox when LIVE launched. It was also lucky enough to have Max Hoberman design the matchmaking system and lobby. That was brilliant.
But beyond revolutionizing how Xbox LIVE works (which isn’t something they can do now) or reinventing the FPS entirely (which is new IP territory, not something that’s been around for the better part of 2 decades), what the hell else are they to do? Updating the aging franchise with modern mechanics is as much a copycat move as saying that every film with sound is a rip off of “The Jazz Singer” because it did it first, or that every car with a radio is just a copycat of Packard because they did it first.
I wouldn’t say that 343 are changing gameplay to fit in the lore but rather using lore to change the gameplay.

… wait, what? Are those different?
