Why fix what was never broken?

Halo 3 was in my opinion the last great halo game.

It retained the competitiveness and the balance the series is known for while still adding new compelling features ( equipment, theater, forge)

The gameplay should have never ever changed, it was perfect. When halo 3 came out no one ever said " gee I wish this was a class based game with a bunch of overused features"

Halo is never going to return to glory by copying someone else.

But it can take what made it great originally and expand upon it.

New weapons, balanced gameplay, aesthetic customization only, no sprint, good halo map design, improved forge, scrap spartan ops and bring back a competitive firefight. Campaign scoring, new gamemodes and game types, and ideas that build upon halos foundations, not change them.

If halo 5 is revealed and it turns out that 343 ignores the obvious changes that need to be made and decides to keep trying to make halo class based, it will fail

I don’t think going back to halo 3 will help. I think that getting rid of the fat surrounding halo 4 (sprint, flinch and perks), trimming the gimmicks(kill cams, grenade indicators), providing a better challenge, and redoing and rebalancing the rest would be our best course of action in terms of gameplay.

What amber said, however I’d keep sprint and design perfect maps for all the changes that will need to be made.

I also think Halo 3 has been the best Halo.

And I think Halo Reach and H4 changed many of the core features. Some of the new features they implemented were good, just not great. But with the feedback 343 now have from 343.

It should be possible for 343 if done correctly. To make the next Halo as popular as Halo 3. But still have some of the features from HR & H4.

H3 was great, but it was not perfect until its TU was released, and it still had a couple of flaws. But overall was a great game.

I hope that Halo 5 will be a greater game and it allows both classic and infinity players to play the Halo they want without splitting the community.

The problem with that however is that this is a reality. Maps were designed with sprint and AAs like jet pack in mind. This led to them being bland, large, and lacked any kind of variety, I mean seriously, almost every map is 2 layers. Sprint is inherently imbalanced when it comes to halo, and also prevents the core from being flexible enough to work with older styles of halo that many enjoy. Why cut them out of the franchise?

Haven wouldn’t work without sprint because it was designed for it.

Citadel wouldn’t work with sprint because it wasn’t designed for it.

We need a solid core this time.

If it wasn’t broken, why did Bungie try to change the series with Reach? Because the same thing over and over again would dilute what makes the series great.

Not saying it’s without any flaws, I dont like 4, but thats because it plays too much like a generic call of duty wannabe these days.

I dont want the series to revert back purely to Halo 2 or 3. But I dont want it to be any more like CoD. But something that brings a true next-gen feel to the series. Like how Destiny is changing the shooter formula.

As everyone else said, we don’t want to become exactly as before, but I’d like to add that we need that back before we can even think about innovating.

We need Halo 3’s core (Which is technically Halo 2’s) with new elements included into it.

because we don’t want fricken cod and we need new stuff not just reskin of everything
I hope halo 5 is more like halo 4 than the rest of the games

Descope, no sprint, AA’s on map, weapons on map, power ups on map, ranked and social, quality 4v4 arena maps, visual skill ranks along with progressive ranks, a spectator/caster mode, loads of custom game options and Halo could be back. Oh and for the love of god bring back the jump height/movement to that of Halo 3.
